| It's an Alocasia. Maybe Alocasia sanderiana. |

| I don't know how to tell one Alocasia from another but it looks like one commonly sold in the house plant section of our Garden Centers called "Polly": http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/53992/ |

| Hi Dave and Lin.
My vote is, Alocasia x amazonica with the cultivar possible being "Polly". |

| Looks like the leaves are purple beneath. Wouldn't that lean towards Alocasia sanderiana, rather than it's related hybrid? |

| Hi Dave and so are the other two that I mentioned as well. I am not familiar with Alocasia sanderiana. I am still sticking with Alocasia x amazonica;-)

| Hi Rachel! Alocasia sanderiana is a parent of A. x amazonica. I've been looking at photos of both on Google, they are very similar, and I think some of the photos are mixed up. |

| Maybe so Dave, do you have a picture of a true Alocasia sanderiana that you can add? The sanderiana appear's to have a more slender leaf shafe with more indention's on the foliage vs. the original poster's Alocasia. |

| Thanks Rachel! I see what you're talking about.
A. x amazonica has very dark green leaves with white veins & margins. Didn't know it had purple backed leaves as well.
A sanderiana has more of a metallic green leaf, with gray-green veins & margins (as seen below). It also has deeper lobes. Click the image for an enlarged view.

| Most plants offered as "Alocasia sanderiana" are hybrids..., but the real thing has narrow, very deeply divided leaves.
This one appears not to be a hybrid: http://bellsouthpwp.net/g/m/gmb1329/Alo3.jpg |
