Well, I needed to go to Lowes to get some powdered sulfer for my dahlias going into storage. As I was wondering around the garden department I spyed a table of discounted plants containing gallons of sedums reduced to a buck.. Beside it was also a rack of small potted cactus, succulents, Hen & Chicks, etc - you are probably familiar with the kind of thing. So I'm looking at the table and having this internal dialog... new sedums for the collection or wait for next year...be good, you don't need them, be good its winter...but they are so cheap...but its winter and you have no space...but they're SEDUMs...
So I won the contest and walked away, then walked over to the potted smaller ones, the ones that will not survive freezing and would have to be inside over the winter. They were reduced to a buck also. Since the table and the rack were outside and we've had some frost in the past week, I could see some of the little potted ones had frost damage, but most did not. So the dialogue started again: They're only a dollar...but they will need window space inside during the winter... but they will die...but I don't have any money...but that's a gorgeous Escheveria...but you don't have the space...but they'll DIE...
So I started to walk away again, proud of my will power and thoughtful ness, when who appeared but Dennis, the outdoor manager. Dennis (the devil himself) struck up a conversation about the plants and we talked a bit...AND THEN he said: You can have any of those you want for 10 cents a piece. So I thought, well maybe just one or two...
I walked out of the store with 29 of them!!!! I'm such a weak pushover.
Sigh, now I have to find a place to put them all.
Oh, they didn't have the powedered sulphur, but I did find a bottle of liquid, spray sulphur.
