I attended an art reception and fashion show last weekend, and had to share these clever uses for recycled materials. The show was by an innovative young artist named Jamie Kuli McIntosh, and was called "Recycled Wearables". She makes clothing, jewelry, and bags out of almost anything! Here is a link to her site with pics of many of her pieces:

This pic is one of the models from the show last weekend, Joanna, wearing a corset made of 225 emptied mustard packages, and skirt made of fused and stitched plastic grocery bags.

I don't think she's ready to give up her day job just yet (at a chimney company), although she looks forward to that day. She's so innovative, I can easily see that in her future.

I just went on the web site and it is amazing what she can make from plastic. Great imagination and great work.

Amazing!
Thanks Neal.

If she learns to do recycled flowers you may be in trouble... ;-)

Well, she has been experimenting with laminated hosta leaves, and is planning to make a full gown out of them- so recycled flowers may not be that far off, LOL!

If you Google " fused plastic garbage bags tutorial"
It shows how to make fabric out of plastic .
