OURS of FUN !

SETTING UP THE GAME

Each player chooses one place marker.
Place markers are all placed on the ‘start’ space.
There are four sets of drawing cards.
Math
Vocabulary/Spelling
Geography
Variable
Shuffle each stack of cards and place them around the board, each in a separate stack, two on each side.
The spinner goes in the middle of the board, also the dice.
The Winner’s Envelope is laid aside for use at the end of the game.
One person is delegated to keep score, pen and paper is needed for this.
There are two write and wipe boards provided to write answers if needed. A player may give an answer verbally without using the board, or may choose to use the board, for instance to write out a spelling word, or figure a math equation.

RULES

2-4 players may play at once
The game is played by time, it is recommended that a timer is set. (oven timer works great!)
Dice must remain on the board when thrown. Failure to keep dice on the board forfeits the throw and the play moves to the next person.
After drawing a card, it is replaced to the bottom of the same pile.

1. Spin the Spinner. The spinner will land on one of four categories. The player then chooses the top card from that deck.
2. The player then answers the question on the card drawn.
If the answer is correct, move to step 3. If the answer is wrong, play moves to the next person in line. If that person can answer the question, they receive one point and then get to spin.
3. Receive one point for the correct answer.
4. Roll the dice and move the placer marker that number of spaces on the board. Follow any directions on a space.
5. If a player rolls doubles, they get an extra point!
6. If a player lands on a ‘BONUS’ space, they get to answer a bonus question. Each bonus question is worth 1 point.
7. Play then moves to the next player in line.
8. The player with the most points when the timer goes off, is the winner! The winner draws a Reward Card from the Winners Envelope. The card may require scheduling to redeem.
9. The loser(s) puts the game away. Be sure to put all cards and pieces where they belong and return the game to the closet.

TIPS

New cards can be added to the game when the old ones are ‘outgrown’. For example, once a month, the cards are replaced with new cards that parallel with the child’s current lessons. You can save the old decks to play ‘review’ games.

Players can be paired up into teams if necessary.
Be sure to record time spent playing the game, in your home school journal!

If you have children of different age levels playing, you simply make 4 decks of cards ‘advanced’ for older kids, and 4 decks of cards ‘primary’ for younger ones. Decide on a dividing age, and after spinning, the age of the player determines which deck they draw a card from. Or the younger kids can play first with their decks, and the older ones later using the advanced questions.

You can make your own game by spray painting a board from a board game. Be sure to spay with primer first. Then use permanent marker and a ruler to make spaces, or write. Decorate the board with stickers, stamps, glitter, ect. After the game is decorated, spray with clear sealer.

You can use anything you like as a place marker- buttons, a small rock (we made pet rocks for ours), a token from another game, or a coin, piece of wrapped candy, ect.
Be sure to watch little ones around the small pieces.
Save the original board game box to store the game.
You can make deck cards using valentines, cereal boxes, poster board, flashcards, old Christmas or greeting cards, ect. Decorate if you would like. Store each deck in a zip lock snack bag. You may wish to date and label the bag.
You can use dice from another board game.
Make a spinner using a CD or cardboard. You can also use a plastic lid from a cottage cheese container or similar item. Paint, markers and stickers will divide the spinner into 4 sections. Each labeled for a different deck. Fasten a spinner in the middle. You can use one from another game, or purchase one at a craft store, or make one.
Reward Cards are drawn by the winner. Rewards could be staying up late, free computer time, eating desert before dinner, no more chores for the rest of the day, ice cream, choosing a video, extra play time, ect.

Vary the game to meet your kid’s needs and use whatever materials you have available.

Will post pics of this when we get our all done!
