I live in Zone 6A Boston Area and this will be my first year digging up tubers, splitting and storing. I know you need to wait for frost, but we have had not really had a hard frost although temps have can hover around freezing during night time lowes. I still have plenty of blooms everywhere and its would just really stink if I had to hack them all down now. The Northeast can be very strange weather wise as today was 72F! I know a lot of the nutrients need to get back down to the tubers so I''m just confused. Do I need to wait until all the foliage is flat out dead and very cold, or is there and OK time to get started without depleting the tubers of the food they need to get through winter?
Thank you in advance for your your advice.
James
