I'm helping a neighbor dig up and divide a big garden peony that has probably been in the ground 10+ years or so. Since I heard you should dig and divide the peonies every 3 years or so, I',m sure the root system is a big huge thing. And advice on how many eyes I should take for myself, since she offered me some for digging and makeing some new cuttings? I know the cuttings will not bloom for 3 years or so, but I really do not want that to happen to her mother plant if possible. Will the main plant get blooms next season if we only take minimal cuttings? or does it not matter. Luckily she knows cuttings take years to get blooms, but I would be bummed if that happened to the main plant as well. Just not sure, thought maybe some of you experts out thre could give me some pointers.
Thanks so much in advance,
James
