Pretty!

I was talking to our neighbor and we had very few T or T'ers arround here also.
Both Eric and Jon had candy left over.

Our cross the street and down neighbors (renters) are moving out.
They've been there a year and seemed to be OK.
Their daughter is the one who came over and fed the fish a few weeks back.
The house needs a lot of work. They want to buy it but the asking price is FAR too high.
Oh well... hate breaking in new neighbors... lol!

They will be ungrading our gas lines here in a bit.
Word is when they are done they will pave the street!
Be weird not to have the gravel after 20 years... LOL!

We've hit 50 and rising!

Sunny and nice as long as you stand in the sun. Brisk breeze but anymore you can't have a nice day without the blasted breeze. lol

Happy All Saints Day! :-) We had about 2 dozen T&T'ers last night. We haven't been home on Halloween night for several years - usually our church has its fall party then. This year they did it on Friday (so they had an extra day to clean up all of the loose hay and candy wrappers before Sunday morning, I suspect!), so we were home. We let the girls answer the door and pass out candy, which they thought was very fun. :-) Charles and I took turns supervising. The last time we passed out candy, we had a lot more kids, so we bought a LOT this year. We have a ton left over.. I'm going to send it to Charles' work with him tomorrow. There are a bunch of guys there, and it will be gone in a couple of hours. Otherwise we'll eat it, and we really really don't need it!!

Your daughter's vampire costume was excellent, Joanna, and yes, leaving off the red eye feature definitely enhanced the look. LOL

It's a beautiful day here... There's not a cloud in the sky, and it's 73 with a slight breeze. So far it looks like it is going to stay like this all week. We may be spending a lot of homeschool time at the top of the play fort in the back yard!

Here are the bunnies' costumes. Joy is a flying squirrel. The little bunny (Katie) is.. well, a bunny. I know, it's a stretch. LOL

Man, Dave has been cranky all day and it's just getting worse, if I say anything he hushes me but has nothing good to say about anyone. I decided to take refuge on the computer but that's not working either, it's bedtime anyway. Been feeling really lonely today too.

Sunny and +11C or 52F

Went to a ski hill (near Banff) for work today. I went 1/2 way up the mountain in a truck with chains on the wheels and the rest of the way up on a snowmobile. The dude driving the snowmobile was hanging off it for balance most of the time. I hung on white knuckled the whole way. When I got to my destination, I was a little wobbly legged and a bit concerned about the ride down. The slopes are very steep and we snowmobiled up it in a zig zag. The snow making machines were going full tilt, so there were spots that were like going thru a blizzard. It's been 20 years since I downhill skied in the mountains and I don't think I will be skiing anytime soon...too scary.

Marylynn I LOVE those costumes!
The Flying Squirrel one is inspired!
We saw one this weekend.
Somehow it got on our neighbor's porch, we think a gust of wind, and their cat almost got it.
They trapped it and took it back to it's Giant Oak tree and it scampered on up.

Sounds like fun Joanna! Seriously.
Why were you there for work?

Well we finally broke out the Furnace.
Well actually we 'tuned' it and tried it out.
We save a ton by doing this ourselves.
New filter, which in our case means lifting the stair landing.
Oiled the Squirrel Cage. Cleaned out the gas tubes. Replaced the Thermocouple.
Then since we were down in the hole.
Put in a new draft free drier vent and caulked it in.
Then took off all the registers and ran a vac/brush all the way through cleaning the ductwork.
Re-leveled the dryer and washer...Hey we were right there.
Cleaned the ceiling fan...
Re-leveled the Thermostat... fired that baby up...
It ran thru 2 cycles perfectly... so we should be good for the winter.

Now that the leaves are mostly gone we're getting great heat gain from the two GH's.
Before we test fired the furnace it was 64 in the Porch GH... 48 outside.
It rose to 70 by late afternoon. Some from the furnace most from the Sun.
It was 68 in the Roof GH... at noon... no supplimental heat.
Once we slap the second layer of plastic on the east end we should easily hit the low 80's by late afternoon there.
We're going to set the heater thermostat out there to 44...
that should only kick on on cloudy super cold days or late night/early morning.

I'm away from here for two days and way behind again! LOL

first things first: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CRISSYR!!

I had more trick or treaters this year than ever and even at that it wasn't more that 15 or 20. I live on a busy street so most folks take their kids through the subdivision behind me.
Marylyn: great job on the costumes--you made the flying squirrel costume this year, correct?
Joanna--the red eye certainly enhanced the effect of your daughter's photo--LOL I would have been hyperventilating after a ride like you took!!!
Ric: you and Robyn are work-aholics--LOL Come on down here when you run out of stuff to do--I have a list of things that need to be done around here!!

We have had 3 picture perfect days for a change and more forecast for the rest of the week--Hooray! Sunshine is great, temps are great--as I said: picture perfect. The plants seem to know that this will be their last hurrah for the season and they are making the most of it. The knock-out roses are putting on a show.

Mau it looks like you have some Bolete 'shrooms there.
There should be pores not gills on the underside.
Some are cool... if you break off a piece the oxidize like and apple.
Some turn bright blue.
Our Coneflowers are LONG gone now...

Cooler weather has definitely slid in.
We'll be in the 50's and sunny til the weekend, 30's at night.
The weekend is shaping up nicely mid upper 60's and sunny!

Today we'll be putting the 'winter skin' on the HT.
Basically we just cover the enclosure to keep out the cold winds.
Also we need to get the last of the plants inside or dunked deep into the ponds.
Looks like we might have dome mid /upper 20's coming in the next few nights.

Guess I need to get all the EE's I got from the RU into the storage shed--it is insulated so they won't freeze this winter. I think they will be fine in there till spring.

We've started dragging out the Holiday Decorations.
That's Robyn's gig mostly.
Usually she goes all out in the front yard.
This year it's going to be the newly redesigned back that gets most of the treatment.
(BUT much of the lighting will be permanent so we'll concentrate the LED and Solar lights there.)
BTW Lowe's and HD are already discounting lights... all non-LED's at this point...
we bought some C7's that were $9.97 just last week for $6.87 yesterday...

Marilyn, that's right... I just made the flying squirrel costume this year; the bunny costume is from last year. Next year Katie will get to choose a new one - hopefully something not tooooo complicated. LOL

Bernie, I'm enjoying lurking on your construction thread!

It's another gorgeous day here. 77, not a cloud in the sky, amazingly low humidity (for Houston), and just a light breeze. All of the windows are open, and the cats are going from window sill to window sill, watching birds and squirrels, and growling at the mailman. I've never had cats that growled at passers-by before... it's pretty funny! They have no problem with people coming into the house... only with them walking past the windows. LOL

We got rained out at lunch time so I took the afternoon to do some Cabinet business.
Lady ordered a $1100.00 entertainment center. Stopped at a senior apartment complex, 117 units. Man wants someone to be on call to replace cabinet doors. He said they get beat up pretty bad from wheelchairs & scooters. This place is only a couple years old. He wasn't there, so another man showed me the cabinets so I can figure some kind of ongoing price. I will call the man tomorrow & see what we come up with.

Pretty!
Ours are actually showing buds for the first time.

Today was the first 'hacking' in the new GH.
I won't say pruning because I went in there w/ a chain saw... lol!
Trimmed off about 2 bushels of clippings.
You can actually see the floor now.
Everything is doing great... either going dormant or in some cases actually setting bud.
One more pruning in about a week and the shelves will go up.
Then it's winter maintenance.

Adina I cut all the Hibiscus HARD back today.
We had several nice blossoms on the one in the upper GH.
But they seriously needed pruning...lol

Grey Day until about 3 PM... now it's nice and clear.
We might have hit 50.
We should stay in the 60's all week now.

It was 55 up top so I'm happy.
Probably finish the plastic this weekend.

Daylight already! I love standard time, because I am a morning person. It was depressing when it didn't get daylight until 7:30 a week ago.
28 going for a high of 65 today. Wow, Indian summer is finally here!

House is getting there. next step is the roof. It will be a challenge. A couple hips & roof on existing house is basically in the way. Oh, well, we think we have it figured out.

My daughter is also adding to her house. We are heading down there this morning to help pour the garage floor. We built the addition late in the summer. She is also doing it with cash & not a loan. People across the street from her hired a contractor & financed theirs. It's a smaller addition & also a double garage. Their cost $90,000.00. Pay as you go, no interest & no loan! Much cheaper! I'm sure the contractor on the other job is laughing all the way to the bank.

My daughter will have a huge master bedroom, bath & walkin closet.
They want to buy a place in the country & this addition is supposed to make the house easier to sell. They figure they will live there a few more years before offering it for sale.
Maybe houses will be selling better by then.

SIL has a terrific job & gets paid very well. If a buyer for their house comes along, they will be on a small farm.

Well, off to start the day!

Thank you everyone!! I so appreciate the birthday wishes!

I was voting in the picture contest all day, plus working, at work yesterday and thought no biggie not coming on because I'll get on the forums when I get home after work, NOT!! Computer at home wouldn't connect to the internet. So I did all of my techie checking and ended up calling Hughesnet, on the phone with them for just over an hour, not their problem, need to call Dell.

Got a gal at Dell and after paying $49.95 + tax because my computer is 1 1/2 years over the warranty (can't believe I've had the computer that long already) she discovered that my computer downloaded updates from Microsoft that had corrupt internet files, so they're going to call me today at 6:30pm so we can re-install my internet software. The rest of the computer is fine.

I started moving all of my files and folders to my thumb drive and like a nerd and being too tired, by this time it was 9:30pm and had been working on computers all day, I was tired and thought I was copying all of the folders in my Start Menu to the thumb drive, but it turns out I was moving them so went to move them back to the computer and they won't move! LOL I'm sure they can tell me how to get those back on the computer too but may have to pay again Oops!! Those are the Accessories, Dell, Microsoft Office, etc. folders.

Gorgeous day here today!!!!

I can relate to your computer problems, Crissy--hope you get them solved soon!!
Sharon: gorgeous phal! Are you ready to try the ajuga again now that it's cooler?
Ric: sounds like the GH is performing as you wanted it to.
Bernie: I am a morning person, too, but I still don't like it getting dark before 6 p.m. these days! Good luck on the remodeling and additions to your house and your daughter's.

Another gorgeous day on tap with a high in the mid-to-upper 60's today and in the 70's tomorrow and the next day--making up for the gloomy, rainy days we had for so long.

I snapped this photo of a tree in Conway yesterday. Most of the trees have either lost their leaves already or just turned brown but this one was quite pretty. My visit with Mom Lottie was most enjoyable!

That's what I said! Our next computer is going to be a Mac.

Bernie, that will be a huge savings. We like to pay cash as often as possible for that very reason.

Ric, I need to get into my GH and get stuff trimmed. I don;t have a chainsaw, though. I have to stick with the hand clippers. lol

Mau, you had a good time with your friend? That tree is beautiful!

That's a cool pic Celia.

Yea, I didn't realize how addicted to the internet I was, I just thought, Now what am I going to do???? I have pillow case embroidery to finish that I have a long way to go on plus a Victorian Santa to finish, and without the internet I couldn't figure out what to do??? That's bad.

I want both, Mac and PC but don't have room for both LOL We'll see when I get mine going tonight. The thing is, is I can work on PC's, I know how to build them and have never touched a Mac. We'll see, vacation the last week of April comes first!

Mau that's a gorgeous tree!

Here it is 5:15 p.m. and the sun is going down behind the trees across the street. I don't like these short days at all!! Guess I shouldn't complain, considering the short days that Rann, Joanna and Kiska have where they live!

We mostly went shopping and did some prep for the new HT Doors we'll be installing tomorrow.

Ric, wow, living on the 76th floor!!!! That will be a great shot! My grandfather was a tailor too. He learned as an aprentice in a German school when he was very young.

Bernie: the project is apparently moving right along! :o))
Ric: the DG ID names of the ladies in my photos are cperdue(Charlotte); kjuddy(Karen); kathy_ann (Kathy Ann); crissyr (Christine--also here on the weather thread); duckmother(Kim); JanieP (Janie); fleursdefouquet(Debra)
They are all on the Mid-South forum with me and a great bunch of ladies, if I may say so! :o)) Kathy Ann lives 40 miles north of me and Debra is to the west of Little Rock--also about 40 miles from me in the other direction from Kathy Ann. Crissy lives probably 60 or 70 miles from me but she works in Little Rock which is why she was able to join us at Charlotte's house--she lives in Little Rock. The others are somewhat closer to me with Janie and Karen being the closest--each about 10 miles from me. It's nice to be close enough that we can get together every so often.

Kiska, I promise not to complain about the short days in my area--yours are so much shorter! Glad you had a nice time on your trip into Anchorage--good luck with the new printer!

It is supposed to get up into the low 70's today--another great weather day! However, the downside of this is that my daffodils are confused--I noticed this morning that two of them are beginning to poke their heads up above the ground--not a good thing because they may very well get frost-bitten in the days to come. :o((

Anybody recognize these leaves? I found three of these in my Knock-Out rose bed this morning. They were all about 10--12 inches tall with leaves at the top of the stem. I started to throw them away but then I thought the leaves looked similar to a camellia so I am saving them until I get an ID on them.

Was a gorgeous day but a little windy, probably 3 to 4mph with 10mph gusts. I hope it's not that windy tomorrow, I want to burn the rest of these leaves, knowing the trees have only dropped half of what they are going to and I live in a forest!

Ditto Pepper's weather.

I think we hit 74 today.
I was working on finishing the HT Doors, shady area, and I ended up in a T shirt.
Looking at more of the same tomorrow.

Joanna love the sign!
We never actually close for the winter though.
The Hellebores and Arums are just now starting their new growth.
The Mandavillas are surprising me.
Ripped them off their trellises, threw them in the GH and they are still bloomming and budding away.

Beautiful roses and mums!

Here's the new and improved HT, ready for Winter.

Thanks kiska!
I meant to mention your photo from yesterday.
It just felt to me like everything in the scene was holding it's breath waiting for the snow.
Lovely shot!

I built four PCs. Always thought Macs were for old men; but now I'm an old man I've got a Mac. Wouldn't change.

Halloween here still a religious festival. Everybody puts candles on the graves of dead relatives. Cemeteries look beautiful at night. TorT hasn't caught on here yet.

Six inches of heavy wet snow overnight Saturday. With temps just above freezing it's slowly melting, leaving everwhere slushy and muddy.

Kelli Thats a Kalanchoe. I have several, but dont know the real name for it.
Adina Thanks and pretty mums!
Celia Your yoshino cherry is gorgeous!
Mau My brugs have not bloomed at all this year. I think because they got hit pretty hard last year with all the freezes. Im just glad they made it.
Kiska Its looking very cold in your neck of the woods! Brrrr is right!
Joanna Love the sign!
Crissy have you considered getting an external hard drive? Everything on my computer is also stored on the Maxtor. Worth the price.
Ric The GH looks great!
PatGeorge When does the snow start sticking in Finland?
Adina Looking forward to your article! When is it supposed to air?

We have been in the high 70s; today our high is 80* (ugh). I will start a new thread when I get home tonight!

The wx was starting out nice at 9:15 when I took a short break - the sun was shining and the temps were rising. At the next break 11:00 the skies had started clouding up and at lunch 12:15 it was getting down-right chilly.
