Hi there. Do any UK members of DsG know any good places to buy houseplants in Scotland/UK? Locally, there are DIY stores and Garden centres, but they tend to have the same limited selection (Schefflera, Ficus, Dracaena etc). My local florist has the odd, interesting plant for sale but usually not in great condition. I buy a lot of plants online (www.houseofplants.co.uk, a little plug for them), and, while they tend to be expensive, I don't mind if I know they're going to last a few years. However, that's about it.

So, does anyone know of any good online shops/nurseries that I may not have heard about or know of any good shops/garden centres in Scotland that have interesting houseplants? Or just other ways of adding to my ever-increasing plant collection.

Thanks in advance for looking/responding.

Paul,

If you get no response from anyone here you might want to post your question over on the European Gardening Forum: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/f/eu/all/ to see if anyone over there might have some suggestions.

It sounds like you have the same problem I do. The DIY stores with garden centers in my area don't seem to be carrying anything unique anymore, a very limited selection ... all I seem to find is Ivy and the occasional hanging basket of Pothos.

You may already have seen this list but I googled for online sources for house plants in Scotland and this came up: http://ocedltd.co.uk/find_garden_centre.htm

Thanks very much for your input, Lin. I'm getting into houseplants in a big way and am always looking for new places to buy. Unfortunately, there seems to be a very limited selection, as you say. The frustrating thing is seeing interesting plants in books or on sites like this but actually finding them to buy is a different matter. I'll have a good look through the list you kindly found for me, and hopefully I can find something.

Thanks,

Paul.
