Here's the new thread. Unfinished Projects continued. We came from here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/957720/

Do you have a minimum of 5 UFO's? ROFLOL That's unfinished sewing or quilting projects that you'd like to get done. I read about an interesting game idea to be played with a group. You list five (5) unfinished projects that you'd like to complete then another playing member will choose one of your projects for you to start on. You have 2 weeks to complete the project, so keep that in mind when selecting your projects. It would be nice if you could take a picture and post with your list. We will offer encouragement to each other, so we'll see lots of neat projects getting finished. I'll reserve this post for the participating gamesters. New members can join at any time and we'll see how it goes. C'mon all you lurkers, join in!

I think I want to play this time around also. So. . .
here are my 5 UFO's.

1. Bind my grandson's baby quilt, this one really needs to be first since cold weather is on its way!
2. Bind my Spring Flowers quilt
3. Make a Christmas table runner
4. Finish quilting a small lap quilt for a neighbors child and then bind
5. Sew blocks together for a lap quilt for ↑

I could list several more as this particular neighbor has 4 girls and 1 infant boy. So I REALLY need to get busy!

Welcome newcomers. Thunder, love the pictures, noticed the serpentine quilting on the baby quilt. I feel we have really tried a lot of new things this past year. Love the patriotic quilt for your son, so happy to have been a part of it. I am going to make my list tomorrow after my session with the Isolette quilters. We are making pillowcases for Orlando Children's Cancer Hospital. Hope to get 17 made.

My five items were embroidered alphabet baby quilt, black & white jellyroll tote bag, Christmas swap block quilt, Jean's purse, and potholders for swap.

I look at your quilts with the wonderful sashings and tiny triangles (did I ever mention that I hate triangles) around the edges and think, wow I made one of those. I have been challenged to try so many new things, seam ripper still gets lots of use but I am improving with each new skill I learn. You all have made me a better quilter. I know when I have a question or a problem, you're all here to help. Thank You!

the swaps are great for getting out of our boxes, and into other areas, makes us try things we would not have otherwise.

I do not enjoy working with triangles as much as some of the other stuff, but I love the results!!!

That Christmas quilt will take more than 6 weeks to finish. It was a BOM from JoAnn's @12 years ago. Has lots of small blocks so every month you would make at least 6 blocks. But, all the directions are for templates (shows you how old the kit is). So I have to translate templates to rotaty cutting.
I started doing the blocks by hand (if you are using templates you might as well). Then I switched to machine piecing but still using templates. So, there is a lot of "thinking" behind these blocks. I think it will be my "after Christmas" project for the long cold winter days. Maybe I can get all the other UFOs done by the end of the year.

I will "commit" to the cat quilt. If I can get the tails paper pieced this week, I can take the quilt with me since the tails will be hand apliqued on. I have one of those necklace thread cutters that you can take on a plane (no blade exposed) so won't need to check my luggage. Now, where did I put that gizmo?!?!?!!?

Time to get dressed. I'm doing a 5K volksmarch with a friend this AM. Figure I can't make the knee much worse so I might as well go out, get some exercise, and have some fun. Now, where is my knee brace?!?!?!?

Thunder, I think I should come and help you finish that quilt for your son. What do you think? After Thanksgiving we really need to plan a visit to Ocala and the Villages.

Here's my list: more than 5, you'll understand soon. packages in mail.
1 Christmas Tote bag made from strips I won in last year's strip poker game.
2 Secret baby quilt (will post picture soon)
3 Hummer for Dee (can post soon)
4 Suduko label for secret quilt from Barb to my friend Fran, made one already but didn't make it home from show and tell night at quilting circle. Also misplaced or lost a dozen nylon net crocheted scrubbies. DH swears they weren't stolen from car when he had new tires put on.
5 Crazy 9 patch fruit salad quilt for nieces and nephews, a continuing saga.
6 King size Irish Chain wedding present quilt for "married" son who isn't having an official service. They bought a house together over 10 years ago, so it's time for me to move on and get over it.
7. Christmas runner, holly print fabric from wal-Mart on sale for $2.00 per yard.

Didn't go near the sewing room today. Did a 10K walk this AM. By the time we were done it was already @70 and sunny. When you get a Nov day in MD, this nice you do yardwork. So, that is what I did. The leaves are mulched & the yard mowed. Cleaned out a dorm size fridge I've been storingin the garage to donate to work. Cleaned the furnace filters. Just enjoyed the beautiful day!!!!

Now to clean up the mess upstairs I made yesterday before I jump in the shower.

I won all these strips playing strip poker at last year's Christmas (holiday) quilt party for my circle. .I added a few strips more from my stash and aalso the lining fabric.
This year the tote will be my gift for the exchange. So someone is going to get "their" strips back. The pattern is called Jelly Bags #1004 and comes from Bunny Hill designs. http://www.BunnyHillDesigns.com. You need 17 2 1/2" by 42" strips.

I completed the second runner.

Barb - a trip to FL is like being home - it is never all done!!!! But, progress was made. The oven got fixed; the framers completed the roof structure; the electricial did the wiring, and the insullation went up yesterday afternoon. Hopefully some tar paper & flashing will get up before the rain moves in there tomorrow.

And I got some much needed gardening chores taken care of. Now, where did I put that camera?!?!?!!?!? I have some new pics of the quilting "barn".

I have my DGS little quilt bound and I have the top completed for the oldest girl of my neighbor. I cheated and took the other top to a friend who is quilting it for me. . .it is for the 2 year old of the neighbor, so 3 out of 5 isn't too bad. My PC won't accept my photo card for some reason so for right now I don't have a picture of the quilt for my DGS.

Here is a pic of the pieced top for the young neighbor girl who is Hanna Montana crazy as well as pink and purple!

VERY pretty!

The only UFO project I have going on right now is trying to unpack all the boxes my DH drags home to Othello from Boise!

Not really what I had envisioned, but I don't think that will matter.

Very nice, both of them. So good to get things finished. I'm still plugging away. Finished 8 plaid Christmas coasters and four table runners. I'm working on some 2 year purse calendar covers that are pretty cute. Our local guild is having a show in March and taught us how to make them so we could have some available for the Boutique table at the show.
I'll try to take pictures tomorrow.

Thanks Mittsy and Pat.

Yes, those calendar covers sound neat.

Pat, you'll be back to sewing before long, just keep taking care of those things that are important now.

So good to "see" you Doc...before you know it you will be back to having sewing time!!!!
in the mean time just enjoy being closer to grand son...that is much more important...

I did some sewing today, almost finished a new quilt for grand daughter, and worked on three fleece, fringed, and tied, lap throws...Christmas presents...I made one for GD, and everybody ewed and awed it so much...I decided to make 'em all their own...but take some advice...don't ever try to cut all that fringe for three double layer fleece throws...one after the other...my hands are killing me !!!! and I still have to finish tying!!!!

what was I thinking????

have not touched anything on my UFO list ;(

Love the jeans bag, bet she will, too.
Thunder, I hope you have the spring loaded scissors for cutting all that fleece fringe. They are much easier to use. It's still dark out but I'll take pictures as soon as it gets light out on the patio. My camera flash is malfunctioning.

mittsy I do have spring scissors...but I did these with the rotary cutter, and one of those "craft cutter" rotary rulers...has a whole lot of slots at the 1/2'' 1'' 1 1/2'' etc, so measures the fringe out very nicely...
.went through 3 blades tho... amazing how that soft fluffy fabric can be so "hard" on the blades...crazy to cut them all one after the other...but wanted to get them all cut so I can bring to work and tie on my lunch..otherwise I will never get everything finished...hard to find the time to sneak into the sewing room...with the house full I have...two of the boys "living" in my sewing room... the things we do for love...LOL

they are all expecting quilts...which they are getting, in various stages of almost done
( I know I will not get every bit finished, that will be done in the week after Christmas)

so these will be a big surprise, and something to use while I finish up the quilts...

well, I am off to work...hope y'all have a great day !!!

The fleece dulls the blade because of the polyester threads - much harder to cut than cotton. But, amazingly, the cotton fabrics will last much longer than a polyester. Poly threads will "snap" & break where as cotton stretches so takes more wear & tear. That is why many poly threads have a cotton core.
