My DD hosts Thanksgiving with flair, printed menu, 4-5 courses.
This table topper is meant for her day.
Her aunt (my SI) who is over 80 will be there the 1st time on thanksgiving. The pictures on this table runner are depicting life as it was around the turn of the century in Yugoslavia, by a famous artist of that time. This will bring back many memories to this farmers daughter.
These are oil paintings from a famous artist - Romania/Yugoslavia - depicting life at the turn of the century (wikepedia "Stefan Jaeger) I copied the pictures onto fabric. Machine quilted ID. around each one and have extra batting under each to raise the pics. Also quilted a frame around them on the black fabric. These pictures are amazing. So real for that era.
My Gma used to take a panel or piece of fabric that had a scene or picture on it, (usually like an upholstery type), baste a backing on it, then stitch around each motif that she wanted to emphasize. Then she would make a small clip in the backing, insert a filling material to the desired thickness, and stitch it closed. When she turned it over, it was almost like a 3D picture. She would make pillows out of some, and even framed a couple of bigger ones. Don't know if there's a name to that type of craft or not, but it seemed to be popular back in the 70s..
This is similar to what you did here, only she would do each chicken or flower bush, person, etc...
Yeah, i just spritz some quilters glue and attached a piece of batting the size of the pic. Didn't want it to stick up too much, in case Lisa will actually use this piece...???
Cher, those pictures are very sentimental to us as we came from that country. To date, many backyards still look that way. Even the smalles household has chickens, ducks, geese etc. to have food on the table.
