Does anyone have software that allows you to split larger designs to fit smaller hoops? Also, I am looking to be able to set up lettering easily (to add names to designs or monograms) and finally to be able to resize designs that are only slightly too big for my hoop. I don't really have an interest in digitizing at this point and I don't want to spend a fortune for software. So any suggestions?

BTW, I have a Brother 900D with a max embroidery field of 4 x 4.

Thanks,
Sheila

There is always a learning curve. You can't just pop in an image and expect a design to come out. But Embird is used by millions around the world, and all agree it is the best for the money, with good support, and frequent upgrades. In fact we just got an upgrade a few days ago. I don't have time to do much digitizing- I have done a few simple designs and logos, but I mostly buy and download freebies. There are several components-a cross stitch, a photostitch, etc. You can download the program free for 30 days. Good luck. There are dozens of Yahoo groupd devoted to Embird, which are very helpful and even offer lessons.

Thanks so much for the info. I think I will download the demo. I read some about it today and it looks like it is pretty user friendly for the really basic stuff that I want to do and offers the option of expanding when/if I want to take it to the next level.

yes, please suggest yahoo groups TU

I have the Janome customizer because it came with the Janome 300 E I purchased. It does well for me, I can import designs onto a card, but my Vista isn't friendly with it.. Also, I don't use the machine as much as I should.

Maybe I should have sent these to dmail, but since there are 2 of you, I hope this is OK. Best thing to do is go to Yahoo Groups, and maybe type in Embird or machine embroidery. But some of the ones I like a lot are: AbsolutelyEmbird, computerEmbroidery, EmbirdStudio (mostly on digitizing), MachineEmbroideryRedwork- that will get you started. I use the Daily Digest option on my groups to prevent hundreds of emails coming every Day! Just choose what works- you can always make changes later.

Thanks for the suggestions! I look forward to working with it. I always find it frustrating when I find a design I like, but it is .25 inches bigger than my hoop. I also like that you can adjust the stitch density. I had heard that can be a problem, especially if you increase the size dramatically. I have a friend with the Hus Diamond machine and I know she will like that we can change the density since she has access to really big hoops, but can 't always find the designs in the sizes that she wants.

Shuggins, yes you can resize designs in Embird, but don't expect it always to result in a good design. Certain stitches don't resize well, and none can be resized very much. As far as changing density-I'm not sure if that can be done on an existing design- but download it and try what you want. It has a Sew Simulator that helps you watch designs sew out-that is very useful.Embird is really a great program-
