Need help identifying this shrub! It's low growing--seems to spread out horizontally rather than upward--kind of fragile, very fragrant with flute-like purple flowers.

But , sorry, perhaps the right name is Poliomintha longiflora , Mexican Oregano. http://images.google.de/images?hl=de&source=hp&q=poliomintha...

Wow Suse, thank you so much...I have been looking for the botanical name for Mexican Oregano for the past couple years...Poliomintha longiflora...thanks so much.

Does it smell like Oregano.

Common Mexican Oregano is Lippia graveolens.

Metrosideros, you are right. There are two different kinds, which are kalled Mexican Oregano in the literature.

From the Verbena-family Lippia graveolens and from the Lamiaceae Poliomintha longiflora.
