we never have more than 4 or 5 people here at one time. we don't entertain much at all. dh is rather anti-social...uncomfortable around people he doesn't know. and he is very uncomfortable around the people i work with because the men all wear suits (dh doesn't own a suit...won't wear one for any reason), and he feels he has nothing in common with them. took him to my company christmas party one year, and he sat there and talked to no one, except when they talked to him, and would not carry on a conversation.
yeah, he's really shy. i do go to the christmas party most years. sometimes my son goes with me, other times i go by myself. it's usually held in an upscale restaurant, and the dress is semi-formal, and he's just not comfortable in anything other than jeans or khakis.
i very rarely buy See's candy...at work, we get lots of boxes of See's candy as gifts from some of our vendors during the holiday season...enough to last several months...along with all the other stuff we get from our vendors...hershey's gift baskets, hillshire farms gift baskets, fruit baskets, etc.
we've been getting pretty cold here at night...low 30's. the last few mornings we've had frost...and the windshield on my car has been frozen. i hate that...gotta remember to cover the windshield with a towel or go out and start the car and let it warm up for 5 or 10 minutes before i need to leave for work.
no, i don't. but i hope to start one if i can find somewhere in the yard for one. not much space in the backyard anymore but my son said you can compost in something like a rubbermaid tote. i need to read up on composting. is there a composting forum?
yes there is...I have a pile plus a plastic garbage can...poked holes on the bottom and sides..I cut my leaves, put starbucks coffee grounds, their filters, teas bags and horse manure...put cornmeal in there the worms love it and make you lots of casting..
I have mine behind my garage with a small fence around it,do put leaves around my garbage can trying to keep it warm...you can do garbage bags and make leaf mulch...ohh yeah I put melorganite in there too...beers good too just buy the cheap stuff
I had some poison ivy in some fern peonies...got from a friend they was getting it pulled out...wow that ivy did grow...got rid of those went back for more the ivy grew and pitched them all...was getting on my neighbors fence too...did have it planted on his property...
used to be that we couldn't go anywhere poison oak grew...dh used to be so allergic to it that we only had to be in the vicinity of it for him to break out. now, it seem's that he has built up some immunity to it, and doesn't get it unless he touches it or touches a dog or cat who has been out in the woods. how did you get rid of the poisin ivy in the fern peonies?!
we do have some pretty high mountains here - mt. lassen at 10,400+ ft, mt. shasta at 14,100+ ft and mt. whitney at 14,500+ ft. mt whitney is the tallest mountain in the continental U.S. and we have elevations that go from death valley at 282 ft below sea level to mountain roads that are above 9,000 ft. Tioga Pass, the road that goes thru Yosemite National Park is almost 10,000 ft. and closed from Nov. thru May most years...so not all of california is sunny and warm!
ya know...dh already thinks i start too early with Christmas decorating...he wouldn't like it if i had Christmas decorations up before Thanksgiving...he likes it all to be taken down and put away by new years day, too.
he wouldn't eat them when he was a kid...didn't like the texture...his mom and grandma would cook his meal without onions for him...picky, picky, picky. i can't cook with bell peppers or any kind of peppers for that matter, again doesn't like the texture...when i make chili, i have to use powdered chili powders and pepper flakes...sometimes, i will make it the way he likes it, then take some out for him, then make the rest the way i like it.
yeah, i use lots of herbs and other stuff to flavor...i use tomato sauce, sun-dried tomato paste, garlic, basil, oregano, marjoram, & thyme (fresh when i have it), a little bit of cumin, pepper, and onion powder in my spaghetti sauce.
yeah, i like to experiment when i cook. my mom never used anything other than salt, pepper, and onions to flavor stuff. for spaghetti sauce, she used like lawry's packaged seasoning mixes and one small 8 oz can of tomato sauce mixed into to 8 servings of spaghetti...it was alway dry :(
ours came and went last night...was done and over with before i left for work this morning. but more is on the way...now they are saying friday morning, and that it's a colder, windier storm, will get a couple of feet of snow in the mountains...and plenty of rain here.
no, not yet. i keep putting it off...too many other things to do on the weekends. and this weekend we will do whatever dh wants to do, because sunday is his 60th birthday! next week i have thursday thru sunday off of work...so i'll go looking for some then.
i probably won't bake a cake...his favorite homemade dessert is lemon meringue pie...so i think i will make that for him...along with his quiche. i have had ice cream cakes...dh would love probably love it. but i think i'll make the lemon meringue pie for him.
never tried making one out of salt dough...did make ornaments out of the salt dough one year with eric. he will be here on the sundays between now and christmas...he likes to bake, so he will be helping me make cookies again this year...we usually do several kinds in one day, along with peanut brittle, fudge, and divinity. which reminds me...i gotta find my recipe!
I just do a jar of applesauce mix in cinnamon till it gets like dough...if you bake them be sure its on a low temp...pick a piece of wire or paper clip in them before you bake ...you can air dry them too...can use other spices I put ground cloves in some...any kind of cookie cutters work..On the cookie sheet I sprinke it with flour...some cook theres on the stove and let the mix cool...I don't...
