It comes up every spring and gets bigger every year. The leaves are large and resemble a collard green leaf only rougher with more texture. The root tuber is massive ( I tried to dig it out) and defies eradication :-) The flowers are tiny. It is gone for now but I'm sure I will see it again.
Yep, I think you nailed it! Funny, I dont remember planting this in that bed. Now that I have read all its medicinal uses I'm sorry I pulled it up. It will probably come back thou. We'll see. Thanks so much, this was a mystery plant for years.
I have plenty if you need some more! LOL
If you left just a tiny bit of the root it will come back. I love it but as you said it can be invasive. The bumble bees just love it too!
Well if the bees love it thats a very good reason to let it grow. I am now so hoping it comes back. But in a more managable size :-) Thanks Kin. Your the bestest!
Yes, it's comfrey. I have a HUGE one and I just love it. It's so pretty and healthy that I haven't bothered to divide it. It's not invasive for me; I don't have it coming up anywhere else. Just this one plant keeps spreading. Mine is covers about 5 sq ft now.
