Long ago when I was much younger, I had a beautiful tortoiseshell cat named Spanky. I used to call her Spanky the Wonder Cat because she would do so many clever things, and everyone who knew her was charmed by her, even people who said the didn't like cats.
But the most wonderful thing about Spanky was the close bond we had. She was my fur friend and soul mate, and she would give me the most wonderful "nose kisses" which is, I have read, the cat's way of showing that they have total trust in you. A nose kiss is the highest form of affection a cat can show you.
After I lost Spanky, I had any number of cats in my life, and I loved them all dearly. but I never had another cat who would give me a nose kiss. Sit in my lap, let me pet them and pick them up. Sleep by my side at night. But no kisses, until last night.
My beautiful little black cat, Pooka, whom I adopted on a whim, (I was sure I would pick the calico cat in the litter, but instead, at the last minute, chose him). He came up to me for pets when I was in be last night. He was purring up a storm, enjoying the stroking and conversation, (one-sided) that I had with him, Then he put his two front feet on my chest, stretched out his neck and gave me a beautiful big nose kiss!! I was soooo thrilled and happy. I have a cat that loves me as much as dear Spanky did - and it only took 20 years to find him. :)
