My mother-in-law gave this plant to my husband to give to me to rescue for her and we have no idea what it is because it was given to her by her neighbor. Big problem is my mother-in law and her neighbor only speak spanish and anytime they give me a name to a plant it is completely different than what it actually is.
Could anyone please let me know what I am trying to rescue for her?
You might go ahead and note what the name is in spanish. Sooner or later you'll happen upon someone bilingual who could tell you right away the common english name for your area. (For example, some folks say wood sorrel and maybe wouldn't have any idea what oxalis is.)
Around here, it would be acederilla in spanish, but I think folks further south might use trebol. Does either of those sound familiar?
By the way, while you're "rescuing" it, your mother-in-law may not know that it needs a dormant period every so often. Mine go dormant in Feb & don't "wake up" until end of June. She might think it's dying while it's just going to sleep. Dormant..dormir...se duerme...close enough. Todo el mismo! When it comes back from its nap, it will be very beautiful.
Or, she could've let it sit in too much water. They rot easily. (Does it smell bad?)
