Mishal Caguas Puerto Rico
November 10, 2009 06:48 PM Post #7261106
| I bought this plant from a nursery about a week ago. I was told it was a kind of jasmine, and it does smell like one, but an overview of the plants that make up jasmine's genus in the PlantFiles didn't turn up a match. Can anyone help?
The whiter flower was a recently opened one (same day the pic was taken), the yellower ones opened a few days prior. Click the image for an enlarged view.

| Oh dear, it's that really invasive species then. That kills those plans to stick it in the ground then to attract butterflies. I'm in Puerto Rico, if that helps.
Well, a head's up then. Those "jasmines" you might see in a local nursery probably aren't jasmine at all. It's interesting though, I do have an angelwing jasmine and they do smell very similar. |

| Hi Misal. Plantfile's show's Lonicera japonica to be hardy to zone 9b. It is invasive here in Virginia. |

| 9b's my zone? In that case, it's tropical, so by hardy you mean it'll survive, but not be dangerously invasive? |

| I wish I could answer your question Mishal about how aggressive that honesuckle could be in your area but I cannot. If you like that plant, you could alway's plant it but keep your eye on it. The bloom's smell and taste heavenly though. |

| mishal, i think you misunderstood rachel. puerto rico is not 9b. i would think that where you live, it would never get a chance to freeze back, and so be totally invasive...or maybe I misunderstood! lol |

| Thank's trackinsand. I think I missed Mishal's (question mark) concerning 9b being her zone. I have not checked to see exactly what her zone is but I am sure she has no worrie's on loosing that plant in her zone;-) |
