Here is something to try... If you master growning Palms, find a Banana.
Surely you will have (fun) a time of it . The Banana will thrive in the North with full sun..a lot of water. Outside during the late spring and through the summer...but here is the catch.
Be sure you have a large door through which to return (banana) it to your house in the fall.
Remember plenty of water !!!
Seems they shoot a new leaf and plenty of suckers with each watering...
