I know there are e mail machines, not computers,to send & receive. I was in a home once and that is what they had. Not a blackberry or hand held device. Do any of you have such a contraption?

A Netbook maybe? http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Computers-PCs/Netbooks/pcmcat163300050051.c?id=pcmcat163300050051 They can do a bit more than just email, but they definitely don't have the capabilities that a regular computer would.

I would do a search for that. I know there were devices for that at one time since some garden members have one but it Is pretty old, quite small, only does plain text, and is monochrome. A low end laptop would probably cost the same now as what they paid for it 15 years ago.

Google "Presto Email machine"- In addition to buying the machine this is a service you pay a monthly fee for too- It works pretty well -uses a phone jack I think.

How about using your cell phone? That may be a cheaper option.

This is something I am thinking a friend w/ no computer might use. She certainly would not use a cell phone!! Just too technical for her :)!

These work great for non-technical people- we had one for my mom until her Alzheimer's got too bad. It allows the younger technically savy generation to communicate and keep in touch with the not so savy (possibly older??) generation! It's a lot easier to get a kid to send Grandma an Email that to write a letter!
