Happy Birthday, Marilyn!!!

I love the ice decorations, kiska!!

E_B, I think it's weird that we got December snow before you, too! LOL That will probably be all we get this year, although it's still early...

Bernie, eeek, a blizzard! brrrr... I had to walk home from school in a mini-blizzard once in Ohio. It brought back a lot of memories of reading Laura Ingalls Wilder books about people getting lost in blizzards... Since I was in town where the wind was blocked by all of the buildings, and we had good sidewalks, it wasn't scary at all except for crossing roads. It was actually a lot of fun, and I was sorry when I got to my house (about a mile and a quarter from school.) I wouldn't have wanted to do it out in the country or with a colder windchill, though!

It's going to be warm today and tomorrow and then another chilly front is coming through Wednesday night. No snow this time, though.

Sharon - thanks! Good to hear Gary's doing fine, I was thinking about him the other day :-)

Marylyn - I LOVED the Laura Ingalls Wilder books ... I have them all! :-) I always think of them when I hear/read the word "blizzard" ;-) lol Unfortunately they're in english so I can't read them to the girls. I borrowed the Icelandic translations at the library and read them to Selma when she was Hildur Eva's age ... need to borrow them again to read them to Hildur Eva too.

Kiska - LOVE the Ice decorations, I think they are so neat! Wish I could make them here ... without the extreme frost you have ... a steady 30F for a few weeks would do it ;-) lol

I finally remembered to bring the camera along when I went to the pool so here's a photo from this morning just after 11 am (around sunrise).

HAPPY BIRTHDAY , MARYLIN! Have a wonderful day!
You and your granddaughter are looking so great together! What are your plans for today?
Rann, great pics!
Ric, Sally, I don't have a name day. They are only for those who have the name of a saint. Romanians are very religious and we have many celebrations of all saints. It almost became a tradition to name our children with the name of a saint, to have more celebrations in a year : one being the birthday and the other one the name day which is the saint's day. Most people are giving their children 2 names and one is almost always of a saint. I only gave them one name, but they are both of saints : Andreea, from St. Andrew and Ionut from St. John. I hope this makes sense!LOL
Kelli, great pics from your hiking!
Kiska, beautiful view with all that snow and ice decorations!
E_B, thanks for explaining about the paint, so cool! The picture is cool too!
Sharon, thanks for starting a new thread for us! Your tree is gorgeous!
Celia, ROTFLOL! They are too cute, poor kitties!LOL

Still warm, but cloudy. 43 during the day , 28 at night.

Happy B-Day Mau

Still really cold here. Flurries & blowing snow with frigid temperatures all week.

Currently -18C or 0F
Windchill: -30C or -22F
Low this morning -27C or -17F
Condition: cloudy with scattered flurries
Wind: N 9 Km/h or 6 mph, gusting later
Relative Humidity: 72%
Pressure: 100.0 kPa or 30.31" rising
Dewpoint: -21.3C or -6.3F
Ceiling: 4100 ft
Visibility: 24 km or 15 miles

Latitude: 51.12
Longitude: -114.04

Sunrise: 8:25AM

This is what happens here if you do not disconnect & drain your water hose and also shut off the valve from inside before winter sets in. This is a few houses from mine. We installed a frost free valve last summer, which also helps prevent this from happening.

Nice video Ric :-) The mountain in the background in the beginning is Mt. Esja. The golden circle consists of Gullfoss (Golden Falls), the Geysir hot springs area and Thingvellir. And then there's the Blue Lagoon of course ... those are the standard tourist destinations ;-) Ofcourse, Hafnarfjrur is definately worth a visit too ;-) lol

Celia and Joanna - BRrrrrrrrr. Like the snow shot Celia :-) We're hoping for snow again soon ;-)

It was fairly calm around noon when I took the photos so the sea wasn't very choppy. It started raining this afternoon and the wind has picked up a bit. Too lazy to figure out the wind speed ;-) lol Now dark again.

Thank you for the kind birthday wishes, everyone! and thanks for the compliments about my granddaughter, Kate. She is beautiful on the inside, too. :o))
Sharon, thanks for the new thread--lovely beginning photo and very pretty Hib, too. So glad that Gary is doing so well!
Celia: gorgeous yellow rose!
Rann: lovely photos from you, too.
Kiska: I always enjoy your ice sculptures.
Ric: I will check out that link in a few minutes.
Adina: My daughter and her husband took me out to eat last night for my birthday. I was planning on spending today on the road on my way home but the weather is nasty so I am going to wait until tomorrow. My daughter and I have made some chicken/rice soup so that will be my birthday dinner today. :o))
Joanna: I assume the hose split open and let the water escape which is what made the waterfall? Do your pipes ever freeze inside your walls?
Kelli: I'm amazed at your low temp!

Currently:
Rain 46F Feels Like 46F

jbanana~very impressive ice-sculpture your neighbor's have-too bad it's unplanned.
rann~nice seeing the photos, old and new.
ric~a bit of wild weather in your area-seems it does fluctuate; must keep you on your toes as to what to wear outdoors.
crissy~rain and wind; must be winter everywhere:)

Adina it makes perfect sense to me.
My BIL is Greek and his name is Emmanouill (Emmanuel) and his Name Day is Christmas.
My Grandfather and Uncle were Thomas and Oct 6th was theirs.
My Mom Ann's was Dec 6th.

Kelli you were colder than us.
Great Shots!

Looks pretty Celia!

Joann you were WAY colder than anyone! LOL!

It was fairly nice outside till the rains started about 2 PM.
Temps in the 40's and calm.
The rain actually started as ice pellets but that only lasted about 15 minutes.

All the old windows are plastic covered and the cracks foamed.
My 'newer' windows we used metal tape and sealed the seams.
Put the layer of plastic back over the new door.
I need to do some threshold work and it can be done from the inside tomorrow.
We're going to leave the door up between the Kitchen and the Sewing Room.
No reason to heat it at this point as we still have drywall to hang.
It's staying about 55 out there w/ the one vent open so...
They are still calling for the bad winds so I'd say tomorrow will be totally indoors.

Finally below freezing (34 for a high) and snowing here at the house. It rained all day and at times became freezing rain or sleet. It will all freeze overnight and if roads aren't treated it will be a mess. Winds will be high tomorrow so will have to deal with blowing snow. How bad it will be depends on the amount of snow we get. Tomorrow I don't think we are expected to get out of the teeens with wind chills below 0. Will take camera with me to work if I can get out of here and take a few pics.

I had a 1955 Willys 4 x 4 Truck for years.
We used it as a work truck.
You just can't kill them!

Raining here but it's moving out.
Temps dropped into the 30's for a bit but are now on the rise.
That's the Southern Storm moving thru...
The one hitting the Plains States will pop thru tomorrow.
Still projecting the winds.
6 AM til 1 AM Thursday

A STRONG COLD FRONT WILL CROSS THE OHIO VALLEY ON WEDNESDAY.
VERY STRONG WINDS WILL OVERSPREAD THE AREA WEDNESDAY AND CONTINUE INTO WEDNESDAY EVENING.
SOUTHWEST TO WESTERLY WINDS WILL BE IN THE 30 MPH TO 40 MPH RANGE WITH WIND GUSTS NEAR 60 MPH POSSIBLE.

I saw on the news they are predicting 25' waves in Chicago.
That's higher than the waves there during the storm that took out the Edmund Fitzgerald in 1975..

never heard an inflatable Santa warning till
now---ROFLOL
the winds are really picking up here and they are saying the low tonight will be 25F and the high tomorrow will just be 29F--that's for the Harrison area--don't know what the forecast is for the Cabot area but I will be keeping a close eye on things because if the wind doesn't dry up the roads before this temp drops then things will start freezing and the roads are likely to be covered with ice. Hopefully, they won't be, though, because I really need to go home--have things to do there.

When my granddaughter Kate found out I was going to be here another day she drove down here from where she lives in Branson, MO (about 45 miles) to take me out to supper. Just the two of us went out together and we had a lovely time. Finished off the evening with a brownie sundae topped with hot fudge and caramel---Yummy!!

Here you go Mau.

Looks like clear and near 40 Weds and Thurs in Cabot.
And this warning.
strong storm will move from the central plains into the upper
midwest overnight and midday wednesday. high pressure will build
in quickly behind the departing storm and the difference in
pressure between these systems will produce winds of 15 to 25 mph
across most of the forecast area, with higher gusts.

the winds will be initially from the southwest but shift to more
of a west to northwest direction behind a cold front that will
move across the state overnight.
the winds will begin to decrease late wednesday afternoon as the
high moves in and the storm system pulls away.

It appears everyone here in the USA and parts of Canada except kiska will get something out of this Mega Storm.
It started on the West Coast and basically hit it from top to bottom.
The snow part has tapered off west of us.

We are still getting the SW Flow.
27 MPH Winds gusting to 38 MPH, light drizzle.
This morning it was Sunny.
Temps went up to 52 but have now dropped to 43 in the last 30 minutes.
100 miles west of us Indianapolis is getting snow.
By 6 PM or so we'll be at freezing.
By Sunrise we'll be at 20 w/ the Wind Chill it will seem to be 5.
If the power stays on it's no biggie.
We weren't planning on going out anyway...lol!
If it does go out... we have a gas stove and water heater.
Laptop is charged as are all the batteries, plenty of food, plenty of books and dry wall to do so...

I've been reading all of your posts and saying "brrr!" ... on to the next one: "brrr!!!"... on the next one (a wind chill of 5!): BRRR!!!"... and Joanna's at -13C!!: BRRRRRR!!!! Yikes! And then I read Sharon's and had a hot flash, so I've stopped shivering now. LOL

Hi, Monty!!

We've settled into a fairly normal "winter" routine here... It's in the 50s today and will be in the 30s tonight. By this weekend we'll sneak back up into the 70s. We go back and forth from the 50s to the 70s as our high most winter long, with occasional dips into the 40s, and even more occasional jumps into the 80s. Either extreme gets complaints from half of the population of Houston. People either hate the cold and think the 40s are unreasonably frigid; or they hate the heat and want winter to be winter, for pete's sake! I've lived "up north", and know what winter can be, and I'll take our version of it any day! LOL

22, barely 3'' of snow, windy and cold! I can't see the farmhouses in the country, but can see in town. DH was up at around 4:00 am snowblowing driveways and paths. I was vacuming.

Last night we heard the loudest noise we've ever heard in the house. I went into the next room and Christmas balls were broken and spread like shrapnel all the way into the kitchen, about 16' away. DH built an insulated air conditioner box. It goes over unit on the inside and we have a latchhook to hold it on the wall. One cat was missing, so we guess he jumped up on the box and managed to get the hook undone. The mirror on it was cracked in half and I lost another small snowglobe. It hit the basketful of Christmas balls on the little table and just exploded them. It only dented the basket a little. We swept it all up and vacumed last night. I revacumed this morn. Zoe was just fine and hiding in his ''bad storm'' cubby hole.

Sharon, glad to hear Gary is OK! I'm sure he'll be glad to get his port out!

Rann, I don't think I could wait till 11:00 for sunrise :o)

Adina, I think name day is really neat!

Ah Rann, the Christmas stories start! I loved them so much I saved all of them on to notepad last year.

Monty, you put the biggest smile on my face!!

Marsue, a very Happy Belated Birthday! That was a beautiful backdrop for two beautiful girls!

Sorry to not comment on everything.

Monty you can quit monitoring, everyone's FINE...go back to sleep...

We had a bit of a furnace scare early this evening.
Turns out it was a clogged pilot light tube... probably from all the line work they are doing around here.
So we are warm and toasty. Which is good as it's supposed to be 21 by sunrise...

The high wind warning has been lifted... the Futon will be uprighted tomorrow.

Somehow I missed the new thread. We were very busy today. Put in the new vanity. Didn't go very good. The corner it was to go in is 43" wide, but the wall has a angle in front of the vanity. It is only 38" wide. Yes, 43" doesn't go through a 39" opening. We had to take the vanity apart, cut it in 2 pieces & put it back together in place. Then the faucet didn't reach through the vanity top without a little rework. Finally got it all in. We were almost scared to go get the linen closet for something would be wrong. It slide right in like it was supposed to.
Even got the door trim on. I will post pics when the cabinet doors are done.

Did someone say we had a blizzard ? We were so busy we didn't notice. LOL!
About 8" of snow here. Wind was wild, so most roads were kept clear by the wind. All ditches are mowed very short, so nothing to catch the snow. My son took the tractor & cleaned the yard. Didn't take long at all. County snow plow went by this evening, so I can hit the coffee shop in the morning.
-1 tonight. Wind has went down. I can see town lights, 5 miles away. (We are in flat country).
Cookies & fudge were being made the last couple days. DW cooked a small turkey last night & a larger one tonight. All the meat is off the bones, so all she has to do Saturday is warm it up. Expecting a fairly large group & weather sounds good for traveling.
Heading for bed.

Sun breaking through the clouds and snow
or cloudy and no snow...lol!

The furnace is working well and now we know what the issues are so...

The GH temps are in the low 50's as is the Sewing Room.
I'll be going out there to start prepping for the dry wall and will just throw on a coat.
No need to heat it up just yet.
We're looking at maybe installing a ventless Natural Gas space heater out there.

We're WAY under our normal temps at 21 FAR below our normal 44 High for this time of year.
In fact we are colder than our normal Low of 29!

We crossed, Celia. Pretty snow photo but I'm glad it is where you are and not where I am. Folks where you live are most likely accustomed to that kind of snow, huh?

I forgot to say that the little tree beside the fireplace is the one that my daughter calls her "Charlie Brown" tree after the bedraggled little tree in the tv movie "Charlie Brown's Christmas". LOL
She usually doesn't put any decorations on it (it is pre-lit) but I added a few to it this year.

This is the 'main' tree at my daughter's house. It is in the corner of their dining room because folks driving by at night can see it from the street. Their living room is on the back of their house.

Had to find all my stuff from back in the Spring when we did Robyn's Parent's House.
Then Robyn needed help in the attic.
She's insulating and has finished one side...
so we had to move everything from the 'to do' side to the done side.

I did get the first 1/2 sheet up on the ceiling and some of the smaller pieces on the walls.
Tomorrow will go smoother as I working in a clear spot now. Hopefully...

Our weather Saturday is predicted, 23 & sunny. Sounds good for those traveling.
We do this early because families are getting so big & so many things to go to.

Sunday, DW, me & MIL are traveling to Brainerd, MN for MIL's brothers birthday. He is 90 years old. MIL will be 92 in March. There is also a sister in her 80's still alive. They are the younger of the family of 7.

Dug around in what used to be my antique shop today, looking for usable chairs. Found a plant stand I knew I put out there a while back, but couldn't find last week. It was buried under the pile of chairs.
My shop is an old trailer house that I basically gutted & put in shelving & display cases. A few years ago raccoons got into the ceiling & made a terrible mess. I've been trying to find time to fix it up, but---.
I need to redo the outside before I fix anything inside. I thought I had a guy hired to do the outside work, but he turned out to be a loser. Maybe in the spring I can find someone.

Good morning!

Very windy and raining this morning. Woke up before the alarm because of the wind. About 30 mph (13 m/s) wind, gusting to 50 mph (22 m/s). About 48F (8C).

Sally - The darkness definately makes it harder to get going in the morning! You'd have to wait until almost noon to actually see the sun ;-) Sorry about your explosion, what a way to wake up!

Ric - wow, that was some storm! My first thought when I saw the outside decorations was that they wouldn't stay in place very long here ;-) lol I'm guessing these storms aren't as frequent over there?

Adina - mmmmmmm sausages!

Sharon - LOL at Prissy!

Marsue - very pretty decorations and Christmas tree

I'm sure I'm forgetting someone - so I'll just say a big Hi! to everyone else! :-)

The first troll will arrive tonight ... you bet someone's getting excited! lol Seems you all are getting there too ;-) lol They've started stocking up ... they'll have to scale down this year, I'm afraid the recession will affect the Christmas trolls like everyone else ... Now we'll just have to see whether the girls will behave so they won't get potatoes! lol

Monty isn't the only one who knows how to relax ...lol Here's Lotta ... I've never know a rabbit that likes to cuddle like her. She's one happy camper :-) I think it's pretty clear she prefers the warm comforts of being a house bunny ;-)

Have a great day!

Celia: Monty's wanting a belly rub!
Bernie: Like Ric, you always seems to have a project in the works. Hopefully, you will be able to find someone in the spring who can do the work you need done on the "shop".
Sharon: you are definitely cooler than you were a few days ago! Pretty cosmos! all the plants and flowers outside here are now frozen :o((
Rann: cute photo of the girls and Lotta. Having had a bunny in the past, I know from personal experience that bunnies make very good and loving pets.
I'm looking forward to the first troll's visit!

Today: Partly cloudy. High 44F. Winds ESE at 5 to 10 mph.
Tonight: Clear to partly cloudy. Low around 30F. Winds light and variable.

Rann just Lovely!
All three of them!

Beautiful, CALM, Sunny day!
We just broke freezing!

The top GH is 78 bottom GH 68.

We had to do a bit of running this morning so just now getting started on the Dry Wall.
Usually, when I was working, we would do everything on the weekends.
Doing a lot more as we now have the time.
But usually only working about 5 hours a day so we're really not killing ourselves.
Once we get the Dry Wall finished all we have left to do is tie in the electric, trim and paint.
The cabinets won't take any time as we have cleats already in place.
Then Robyn can start using the Sewing/Craft Room.

The next indoor project it to finish the Kitchen.
It's been in the works for a year now but, like the Sewing Room, took a back burner to the Yard... lol!

I'm behind again, but I did read everyone's posts. Everyone is busy!

Rann, I love the candles in the back and the girls are beautiful! I'm sure they are excited for the first gift! Lotta is precious too!

Sharon, I love cosmos!

Marsue, the cactus is beautiful with the pink blooms. I'm so used to seeing the red.

Kiska, Tuesday will be here before you know it.

Celia, your room is gorgeous! My quilt is about the same color.

Ric and Bernie, I'd like a house makeover next please ;o)

I spent all morning watching a crew who contracts out for our electric company, cut trees out of the power lines across the road. Thank goodness they left anything that was back from the lines. It's our late afternoon shade in the summer and we need it! It's the old railroad tracks. When we moved here in 1977, the train still ran. They also spared the squirrel nests. The trees also block all the dirt and fertilizer that blows around all summer and winter. (Behind the trees is a grain elevator and fertilizer plant.) They usually dry corn all fall. This year most farmers waited till it dried in the field. A good way to test the field is carry a 5 gallon bucket of water out with you. Drop 5 ears of corn in. If 3 out of 5 float, it's time to pick.

We got sunflower and niger seed yesterday. I left all my flower seeds standing this year, but most are under the snow. It's time to help out.

This is the treeline that runs the length of our block.

Sorry been gone for a couple days. The storm messed up our phone line but we didn't know it til last night. Finally got it fixed today so I'm back on.

Neighboring town also had a power outage 2 days ago that lasted til 5 am yesterday morning. It had started around 5:30pm the night before. lol. It wasn't welcomed by anyone there since temps reached 0 degrees that night with windchills below zero.

Basically here is the weather for this week: Storm rolled thru dumping rain which then froze. We then got about an inch of snow on top of that which gave us the traction we needed. Go about an hour north of me and you get 5 inches or more of snow. North KC probably had about 5 inches, St. Joesph had alot more. Des Moines, Iowa got 16 inches. 35 hwy which is the main route from KC to Des Moines got shut down during the storm due to visibilty being almost nothing. Even snowplows were told to stay off at times because they were getting stuck. Rush hour traffic the day after the storm was a mess as usual. Luckily I take back roads to work. LOL. Our highest temp since the storm has been high 20s and that was reached today. Maybe even low 30s. Haven't caught the news yet today.

I think that's it in a nutshell. It's cold and slippery now that we have warmed up enough to melt snow. Another storm will hit us next week. California and others on the west coast area are getting it now. Gonna be another whopper with the worse of it just skimming us and going north a bit. So if you hear any cussing and yelling from northern MO next week blame the storm and don't say I didn't warn you. LOL

Been a buzz of activity around here today. Cookies came out of the cold porch to thaw for tomorrow. Pies & buns were baked. Some candy made. Big pail of fresh carrots peeled for sticks & cooked veggie. German potato salad is ready & will sit overnight to make it wonderful. (Anybody that hasn't tasted Bertha's German potato salad at a Round Up can make plans for 2010 Round Up's, we will be there. Don't know which ones other than Iowa & possibly KY.)
All furniture is dusted, floors are scrubbed.
WE ARE READY!

Son & I spent the day in the shop. A couple things are promised to be done by Christmas.
We will make it.
I made up a set of sample blocks so people can match stain colors or select one they like.

Busy winter coming up. Lots of work!

Got one more sheet of drywall up on the ceiling today.
It's a slow go in tight quarters and only two of us.
Plus w/ the sloped ceiling a t-brace is hard to manage.
Jon's coming over tomorrow or Sunday to give us a quick hand.

Weather was great today.

Good morning!

It's 49F, raining and still pretty dark though it's almost 11 am. The wind's calmed down, just a light breeze now.

Kelli - so nice to see so much green! Yay on the rain! The rocks are really pretty :-) A rabbit that lies on it's side like that is an EXTREMELY happy and relaxed bunny ;-) lol They all do it, but we've never had one that felt so comfortable being that close to us. Fra likes to be in the same room as us but she needs a lot of personal space! lol No cuddling for her ;-)

Great photos everyone!

Mau - I love that color on your Christmas cactus :-)

Sharon - pretty Cosmos!

Sally - beautiful sunrise/sunset!

Rusty - cute pup! :-)

Well, they're here! :-) The first troll made it last night and brought the girls key rings with their name on. Hildur Eva's was a soft doll and Selma's a stuffed animal... a dolphin to be precise. Hildur Eva's been asking for that particular key ring for weeks ... it's almost uncanny how much those trolls know ;-) lol

For those of you that haven't met our Icelandic Christmas trolls yet, here's an introduction. They are the son's of two trolls, their mother Grla was known to eat naughty children for supper, their father Leppali wasn't known for doing anything in particular. Kind of a lazy bum ;-) lol They are 13 in all and up until mid 20th century they were a pretty loathsome bunch who stole precious food and played tricks on people. They were reformed in the 50's or 60's I think and became Santa's representatives in Iceland. So now they bring well-behaved children who put their shoe out in the window treats, the naughty ones get a potato. The first one came last night, the last one will arrive the day before Christmas.

Stekkjastaur is the first one ... he hung around the sheep barns and tried to steal a drink of milk and spook the persons tending the sheep.

Adina must be a miscue. Robyn's Birthday is Jan 13.

Kelli that's one of the oddest ferns I've seen.
Looks more like a succulent in the picture... I LIKE it!

Well our neighbor Jon dropped by for about an hour
and helped us wrassle the two full sheets of dry wall up on the ceiling.
That's just a 5 hands job. SO much easier that way.
Then we started on the wall by the HT door after he left.
Now it's just the small cut and sticks we need to finish.
There are tons of little pieces on that Bay Window wall.
They take some time but are really no real problem.
Taping and mudding will probably happen Monday.

Rain is moving in around midnight.
Should move out by noon... high low 40's.
Then Monday we looking at mid/upper 50's!

Celia: pretty bedroom. Personally, I like red in small doses but I know that people who really like red, REALLY like red (enough to paint their wall red)! LOL
BP: very pretty photo! Interesting about the corn. I'll have to remember that if I ever grow any corn (not likely to happen, though).
Kelli: glad you got some rain. Pretty agate and very rugged territory.
Pepper: the folks in the NE got your weather. I've been watching the weather for the next few days and it seems like another front will start in California and makes it way across the country again like this last one did.
Rusty: now you have Rusty and Rustie--how cute!
Bernie: I'm sure your family get-together went very well today and that there was plenty of good food!
Ric: 82F in the GH--WOW!
Rann: I'm glad the girls were good and received their key chains rather than a potato. Can hardly wait to hear about the next troll. :o))
Adina: that wheat is really growing! What are you going to do with it?
Joanna: sounds like one could get frostbite really quick in those low temps!
Ric: another pair of hands is always good to have around when one is hanging sheetrock--not that I ever had to do that but Buddy did hang quite a bit of sheetrock at one point in his working life.

20 people total. DW as always made way to much food!
Everybody enjoyed the day. My 2 brothers that were here are also in construction business.
So we had a lot to talk about. One brother just bought a town house on a big tourist lake in central MN. It is only partially done so he expects to make a few bucks on it. Other brother has been busy remodeling bathrooms. He said he don't know why the run on bathrooms, but who cares. He is also putting up a large new house for a grain farmer. Said they will put rafters up this week. Most of it is sub contracted.
Most arrived about 12:15 & stayed until 4:30. Everyone has long drive. Some are 4 hrs away.

We will travel to the birthday party tomorrow. That is 185 miles one way. So I will be driving most of the day. We will come back home tomorrow night.

High today was 30 with strong south wind. Cooling off tomorrow.

Well, off to eat some more!

Good morning! (or afternoon where I am ;-) )

We went to the last of three Christmas concerts this morning, now it was Hildur Eva's turn. She played Jingle Bells. The church where the concert was is in downtown Reykjavik so afterwards we fed the ducks and swans at the pond across the street (like a well prepared mom should, I brought along boots and warm pants for the girls and bread for the ducks ;-) lol)

The weather's nice and mild here, pretty calm, rain drizzle now and then and 50F (10C).

Here are the girls, you can see the church in the background. This was around 12:30, as you can see still pretty dim ... a lot of the photos were fuzzy because of the dim light ...

Just seen on TV Weather Network that Edmonton was the coldest place on Earth yesterday. Even colder than the Antarctica.

-45C, which is -49F

That was the actual temperature, not the wind chill.

Edmonton is about 300 km, which is 186 miles north of me (Calgary)

Ah a fat sleepy puppy... that brings a smile from everyone!
Great pic Rusty!

Joanna that's just TOO Cold!
Hope it doesn't move down this way!!!!!

Kelli I forgot to ask... any chance of mudslides w/ all that rain?
There has to be a lot of open ground w/ all those fires around you.

Bernie I hope you got to see the game today.
Brett didn't look Great but he is still a wonderful field general.
And still seems to be having a good time.
Hope he takes you guys all the way!

Got some of the prep done on the wall portion of the dry walling.
I had to spend a bit of time in the wood shop cutting trim boards.
Then I started 'rocking' at the HT Door and headed toward the Bay Window... I'm maybe 1/2 way there.

Robyn finished insulating the attic and we finally got almost all the stuff back in...
so we can actually move around upstairs!
She found a small roof leak.
I did what I could from inside but it will take fair and dry weather to repair it correctly.
Not a big deal and no real damage caused yet ... so Spring probably...

Tomorrow w/ both of us working on the drywall so we should get it mostly completed then on to mudding and taping.
We were hoping to have it done this week, but Saturday is My Family's Christmas so baking starts probably Wednesday or at least my rolls do...

Good morning!

Fairly calm, 49F (9C) and cloudy. We might get some more rain today. Although it's awfully dark without the snow, I have to say that these mild temps are pretty comfy :-) lol

Troll nr. 3, Stfur (Stubby) made it last night and brought the girls heart shaped rings with a stamp inside ...
Stfur is the first one of the "kitchen lurkers" and his crime of choice is stealing frying pans and picking the leftovers ... I'm sure he's not too keen on these new non-stick frying pans we have today ;-) lol

Thanks for your comments - it was pretty funny seeing Hildur Eva and the swan side-by-side ... it was so huge! lol

The swans on the pond stay there all winter, but the rest of the swan population migrates to Britain over the wintermonths.

Rusty - cute pic :-)

Joanna - Brrrrr! Can't even imagine what that would feel like! :-0

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JACKIE!!! Have a good one and have a good trip, too!
Bernie: sounds like you had quite a crowd for your family get-together--and plenty of food, too! Leftovers---yum!! It's nice that you and your brothers have work lined up for the winter.
Rusty: training puppies takes a lot of patience but it is worth it once they are house-trained. Hope you get your truck repaired soon.
Rann: great photos of the girls with the swans! That swan's webbed-feet are as big as Hildur Eva's feet! I'm surprised that the girls weren't afraid to get that close to the swans. Poor "Stubby"--having to deal with those non-stick frying pans!
Joanna---warm up to what? BRRRRRRR
Ric: you and Robyn should start your own remodeling business--might as well get paid for all that work!!
Adina: I must try to find one of those orange TG's. I really like the color on yours. Hope the wheat does very well this year. :o))
Sharon: bummer on your TG 'kicking the bucket'.
Celia: we can always depend on Isis and Monty to provide us with a chuckle or two. :o))

Yesterday afternoon I attended the band concert at Vilonia Jr. High School. One of my granddaughters is in the ninth grade there in Vilonia, AR (about 17 miles from my house). Her name is Natalie and she plays the clarinet. All three of the bands (7th, 8th and 9th grades) did a really good job. They played secular holiday music as well as traditional Christmas hymns. I was impressed with this group of young people and their skill on the instruments.

Natalie is in the middle of the 2nd row.

35, cloudy and misty. It's starting to cool off already and the wind is picking up. Tonight it will get really cold! The warm temps and mist has taken our snow cover down. I was counting on it staying for Christmas.

ITC came back early this morn and finished cutting the tree line. They cut and stacked the larger logs thet they didn't want to chip. My Dad came up yesteday, so we helped him load those his truck. After they left this morn, DH and I loaded up the new stack they cut and took it down to Dad. It's mostly mulberry, some elm and walnut. We dump all our walnuts across the road and they finally started growing after 30 years. Now they're gone.

Happy Happy Birthday Kiska!! Wow, gone a month! I hope you have a good safe flight!

Pepper, too much weather! Ooohhh, nice truck!

Rusty, the new pup is adorable! Call one, call all :o) What made you decide to get another dog? Aww, under the blanket with you!! Bet you got a few kisses before everyone went to sleep :o) Awww, well that answers my question on how you got another dog! I love your friend's picture of Rustie!

Bernie, what a feast! I love to make too much food! You had a great bunch to talk shop with!

Ric, thank you (photo comment) Drywall must get pretty heavy after a while. Good to have help! Good for Robyn, finding the leak!

Kelli, nice pocket rocks! Good rain and a neat fern! I love the color of the rock it grows in too. Do you transplant flowers or just enjoy them on your hikes?

Rann, those trolls do know thier stuff! Yummy, chocolate Santas! I'll bet Hildar Eva was so cute at her concert! I love the picture of the girls feeding them, but I think the goose would have scared me! It's interesting to see your town! Another neat little gift. LOL over the non stick pans! :o)

Adina, what do you use the wheat for? It's sure growing well! I got my answer about the wheat now. What a beautiful pansy! He has a comical ''face,'' and I love foxglove! Beautiful suprise color on the cactus.

Joanna, Yikes!! It's going to get cold here too, but not that bad :o) Double Yikes! How do you stay warm and what kind of thermals do you wear? Seriously.

Marsue, lunch sounds like a lot of fun, and you didn't even need a red hat :o) I'll bet the concert was nice. Natalie is a pretty girl!

Dyson, that's a lot of rain all around you!

Celia, all tuckered out. That is so cute! No comment either, but a lot of laughter!!

Sharon, it's nice to have a stay home day! 80. Now, when did it get cold? LOL!

Thanks Ric about the photo comments :-)

Marsue - the swan was pretty tame although he did nibble their fingers when taking pieces of bread they handed him. Wouldn't want to be that close to them during nesting season though, they're VERY aggressive! Their feet are really HUGE, it surprises me everytime I seem them. lol The geese are really petit in comparison. lol That particular swan was much bigger than the others walking on the sidewalk, it was pretty impressive up close.

Sally - did they cut all the trees down??? OH my! Hildur Eva's saving her chocolate Santa until Christmas, she just nibbled it for a small taste and then put it in the fridge ;-) lol She always saves the best for last, so sensible. lol Yeah, those stick free pans must make pretty slim pickings ;-) lol

The weather today was just perfect ... calm, 50F, cloudy but dry. Some might think sunny would have been better ... but 50F and sunny does not happen here in December ;-) lol I made good use of the weather and finally got around to putting up the Christmas lights in the big elderberry shrub in the backyard. So nice to be able to do it without freezing my fingers off :-) Then, since I was outside, I mulched a few roses as well. Wouldn't mind a few more days like this! :-)

The girl's dance school had their Christmas show tonight. Selma's group performed, but Hildur Eva's still to young. It was great fun but the benches in the sports hall didn't really agree with my back. It was pretty brutal, I'm still sore! lol

This was today at 12:40 ... loved the striped sky, it was like that in every direction.

Have a good night!

They are pretty though, and big feet! Your girls are so cute! Your weather is warmer than my weather, except for today.
Ric you're just moving right along!

I forgot to mention that Darrell's been having visits from the trolls again this year. He got chocolate chips cookies the first night and a potato the next. Yes, he was bad. (not really and he thought it was funny) LOL I missed last night but I'll make up for it tonight by giving 2 treats.

Rusty, I'm glad Rusty and Rustie are getting along better.

We did a home impovement of our own yesterday. We had a kitchen fuacet that like to have the end pop off and spray us with water. So, we replaced it. Of course, like many things in this house, we ended up at HD for a reducer for one of the hoses. One hose was larger than the other but only at one end. They did a lot of home repairs themselves around here and none of them were done right. Like the 3 1/2" toggle bolts they used to hold 1' shelves that held knick knacks and using two1" screws to hold 9'x6' verticle blinds. They had a hollow interior door as the door to the garage...I could go on but I won't bore you anymore. At least, we know how to fix the stuff they did. LOL

It's chilly and grey here, with a chance of rain - that's pretty much been our weather for the past week, and will probably continue until Friday. I'll take it, though, in the place of Bernie and Joanna's weather! Brrr!!!! :-)

Yesterday -19 Celsius. Today a balmy - 10. Joanna you're so right about dress. I rode the three miles into town on my bike today to pick up my weekly English newspaper. Most of me was fine; but my fingers froze in spite of two pairs of gloves. I've always suffered from cold fingers. Tomorrow I've got to go to the hospital. That's five miles. I think I'll probably ride half way and then take the bus!

I love clearing snow. The locals regard it as a chore; but I find it great exercise. The space in front of our house which has to be cleared is about the size of half a tennis court.

Rann, 50 is a wonderful temp! I was on your website a while back. I still haven't seen all your flowers and am amazed that we have many of the same plants. That's a beautiful sky! I love pink and blue the best. They left one row of trees, and the squirrel nests were far enough back that they were spared.

Oh, to be an excited child at Christmas! At least you know the gifts are appreciated :o) The lights are so pretty! It doesn't take much to brighten things up at Christmas.

Thanks Marsue.

Cuckoo, nice to hear from you! Wow, I don't want to visit the south for a while :o)

FlipFlops, how beautiful!! You've done a perfect room! What a wonderful helper, LOL! Lovely tree!

Bernie, I went ahead and ordered all my garden seeds. I didn't need a lot since some of my garden will hold sod while we get a new driveway put in next Spring.

Rusty, I'm glad you got your truck running. This isn't the time of year to be without a vehicle. The dogs are going to be best friends!

Ric, Robyn is such a big help! Ugly, but shaping up! Can't wait to see it finished.

Joanna, unless I stay active, I haven't found any gloves that keep my fingers warm. Thinsulate, nope, don't work.

Celia, you and Darrel crack me up! It's so nice to know how to do it yourself! Wow! What a neat ship! Those are the best gifts because it gives you something to do. It's a beautiful color too.

Rusty, what a sweetie!

Sharon, get well soon!!! I hope it's only a cold.

Patgeorge, take care of those fingers! I've always has cold hands and feet . I hope it's a warmer trip for you tomorrow. I don't mind pushing snow either. DH does the main areas and I do all the paths. Sometimes we look like a fox and goose game.

Well, it got cold here! The wind picked up yesterday and the temps dropped. It's sunny, just a little breezy and 15.

Sharon, get well soon!!
Got to 80 today...went for a bike ride and met a wonderful neighbor on a little island and she gave me some lemons from her tree. Yum Yum. She has so many wonderful plants and I know she will be a big help to me getting my yard established. Y'all stay warm...suppose to cool off here tomorrow. Actually it's a little warm for Christmas with all the windows open and the frog singing everywhere. Crazy !!!
