Container Gardening: Preserving Plaster pots

I obtained a couple of interesting pots this past summer that appear to be made of plaster, covered with some kind of paint or sealant. I'd like to preserve these interesting and unique pots, but still use them as plant containers. Does anybody have a recommendation for an appropriate sealant or technique?
