My Clean PC

Toledo, OR(Zone 8a)

Has anyone tried using MyCleanPC? Did it clean up errors and help speed up slow computers? I am debating whether to take it in to have a check up done and clean out some of the stuff I don't use or don't even know what it is. I have some problems sometimes with it not wanting to come on line sometimes and I am having problems getting rid of some screens that won't delete like a desktop on AOL. I have free aol or I would call and ask them what to do. I have tried uninstalling it but when I reinstall it, I get the same problem.

Gourd.... what type of "cleaning" software do you have?

there are many free programs out there, that you really dont have to buy a program, or even pay someone to do it for you.

one that is always mentioned is Ccleaner http://www.ccleaner.com/
I use one called Glary Utilities

and then there is Belarc Advisor, which is a nifty program that tells you everything that is on your computer.

do you get any sort of error, or is your machine just sluggish?
what sort of troubles are you having?

It has become very sluggish and sometimes takes forever to download some things like photos. It just isn't responding the way it usually does. I don't get so many error messages just sluggish. I am not great at diagnosing problems. I just don't know enough to do it my self and I am afraid I will make things worse. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated

We need to do this too but I am afraid I will mess something up....ours is soooo slow!

nanny -- general cleaning wont 'mess anything up'. Leap of faith!! ;-)

Just follow Eggs post, and you'll be fine.

My problem is that I don't know if I need to have some of the stuff that is on my computer or if I can uninstall it I am just afraid that I will remove something that needs to be there.
I think that my best bet would be to take it to staples people in there computer dept and let them do a clean up and a general check up to see if something has been installed that I don't need or want.

1. Nothing in your Temp folders is needed. Just don't delete the Temp folders themselves.

2. By unchecking the unnecessary items in msconfig/startup you aren't uninstalling them. You're simply preventing them from loading with Windows, using resources, and making your computer slow.

3. If you uncheck something in msconfig/startup, and later find that you really need it to load with Windows, all you have to do is put a check back in the box for that program.

I must be stupod...I can't locate the Temp Folders! LOL

I will try it again later.

Gourd... I have been there. I know how if feels to think that "what will happen if i delete this?" -- It can be scary...

But why pay someone to do it for you?

Just using the disk clean up and MSCONFIG should make things run much more smoothly.

nanny -- it can be pretty well buried.

Well since I wasn't sure what I was doing I did run the disk clean up empty the recycle and defragged. That alone has helped tremendously! Thank you all for the help.

How often should you run the disk clean up?

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

My PC is on from the time we get up til the time we go to bed and gets A LOT of use.
I probably 'clean' twice a month.... but I run daily scans. I also run weekly back-ups.

Same here...thanks!

There are a lot of options if you are using a full-featured protection program
such as Norton or some of the other major programs. Deleting temp windows
and internet files, internet history files, tracking cookies plus auto backup and
defragging are some of the functions offered.
