Article: The Benzoin Tree
zhinusmom (Trisha) Olympia, WA (Zone 8a) and a wonderful article as always. I have seen that listed on many labels but never knew what it was.
Sharran (Zone 7a) Thanks Trisha, I didn't know a thing about it either.
It's fun to learn something new, though, so this article was my learning experience. I still think it sounds like something that should be poured into a car's engine.
roybird Santa Fe, NM Benzoin has a very pleasant scent that smells to me like vanilla rootbeer! It is used in perfumery, I believe and in essential oil/aroma therapy. Good article!
Sharran (Zone 7a) Hi Roybird, thank you. I knew it was used in some perfumes, but didn't think about its use in aromatherapy. Should have known.
Great to hear from you!
DustyDS Sugar Valley, GA (Zone 7b) They grow in Nam...I've seen them, but they weren't being harvested...
Good article mah deah!!
Sharran (Zone 7a) Thank you, Dusty...
I suppose not much was being harvested at that time.
Bet it was a lovely tree, though.
DustyDS Sugar Valley, GA (Zone 7b) No I don't suppose so, but I don't remember seeing any evidence of it either...BIG and very beautiful trees...The leaves are real silvery especially when it rains...Nice to know what kind of tree it was...
Sharran (Zone 7a) I would just like to inhale the scent of one, but guess that's not to be.
Supposed to be vanilla-ish.
DustyDS Sugar Valley, GA (Zone 7b) Sorry Dahlin... I didn't have much time to sniff trees then... LOL
Sharran (Zone 7a) Guess not.
