I subscribe to Growing For Market , this month's issue is worth the expensive cost of a subscription. I was excited about the complete directions for forcing Dalias in January for early sales. It sounds really easy to do and I would like to try it. I just need to find someone selling Dalia tubers right now. I called around but no one seems to ship until March which is too late. You pretty much grow the tubers like you do sweet potato slips , remove the sprouts when they have 4 leaves and place them in clear solo cups filled with dampened sand. The cups have their lids on them and they give the cutting support. One tuber can give you 8-10 cuttings. Even if I didn't get a lot of cut flowers from the cuttings , I would still get a lot more plants for the next year. It could be a nice way to increase a collection of the more expensive varieties.
If anyone has tried this I would love to hear about the success or pitfalls of forcing Dalias.
