Hi there,

I have another mystery plant that I would like to identify... I picked it up as a clearence plant that was somewhat neglected... many leaves had dried brown tips which I've cut off. So far it's doing ok.

It resembles a dracaena by the cane like main stem and branches/shoots.

The leaves are quite semi-succulent kinda like peperomia (It's kinda fleshy and spongy so not as flat and hard as most dracaena plants)

Leaves are dark green on top and purple underneath. Has a rosette style leaf pattern like a dracaena... hmmmm?

The tag from the supermarket just says 'tropical plant' and the clerks don't know.

hmmm... looks a little similar but a few things look different.
The leaves don't get that long on mine.
The main stem isn't woody... still very green and fleshy even with several off-shoots growing.
Leaves on mine seem more fleshy and rubbery but I haven't seen any mention of that attribute on the Tradescantia spathacea except that it has glossy leaves.

The main stem on tradescantia spathacea is succulent, not woody. I think it's a tradescantia because of the purple underside to the leaves. If not, then I'm not sure.

Thanks again from your effort... I think with more research... I do feel it's a tradescantia spathacea or at least in the tradescantia family.

Here are some other photos that look more similar to what I have. :)

Why not post this in the Plant Identification forum to get a definitive solution?
