Wow, now I know where that childhood smell comes from.
Between my brother & I we took turns for the whole winter with our colds.
My Mom ran the vaporizer all the time.
Not the new type cold steam recommended by today's 'experts'.
This put out real steam and vaporized a sticky brown stuff called, you guessed it, benzoin.
Boy was it smelly, just one whiff sends me back to my childhood even now.
I can even envision the wallpaper in the rooms of the house (make that smelly house).
Who knew something so stinky came from such a pretty plant.

Isn't that the truth.
And we had wallpaper in that bedroom, too...I had forgotten the steam on the walls, it even caused the wallpaper to roll loose!

It is a pretty plant, though...stinky as was in the steamy vaporizer.

Thanks for writing and for the wallpaper memory!
