Paul Aden the great hosta hybridizer died yesterday.

He is the one who registered Sum and Substance.

Thanks, Reggie. Not just S&S, but a whole host of other hostas too. And an author of a hosta book.

Viola, thanks for posting the list from PDN. I looked at that list and see that I have well over a dozen different hostas in my yard that Paul Aden introduced.

Very sad loss to the hosta world.

I have only 7 with two more on the wish list, but I think a large number of them are rather large hostas. I tend to specialize in small-medium or even minis. But it's quite a list.

It's a great loss to the hosta world. Many people were brought into hostas when Paul Aden published his hosta book. The incredible picture on the cover of a mature Great Expectations was amazing. I still consider it one of the better hosta books, especially for those new to hostas. I have quite a number of Aden introductions, and am always looking for more. Not only do they have unique characteristics, but they are all incredibly hardy and have good growth rates.

I had the chance to meet him at one of the latest Hosta Convention.

He was put aside from most of the hybridizers.

But with my 600 different cultivars, I have a lot created of discovered by him.
