Glad things went well for you at Dr. Nettie! And extra glad you didn't have to go to jail. See, not hitting the Dr. is a good thing!!

So far, the storm we were expecting missed us. Hope we can make it through today with no weather. I am soooo ready for spring - I even got my taxes done yesterday in hopes that April 15 will come early this year!

I wouldn't even know where to start writing a book guys! Will have to stick to a story here and there for now.

Everybody have a great day. I am off to Dr. appt. for baby with ear, nose, throat dr. today. He has constant ear infections so thought we best find out why.

Good morning everyone. Cold out but the sun is shining bright so it will warm up this afternoon.
Seray that wall hanging is still waitiing on me to wash it and attach the ribbons. I drag my feet terribly when it comes to any type of sewing but maybe this evening I'll get my rear in gear and finish it up. Meanwhile, I'm busy working on the first of the girls Easter sweaters. Have the back ready to go and almost half way to the armhole on the right front. The color is white for both sweaters their mom picked it out but on this one I'm putting lacyhearts on the fronts and up the sleeves and the sleeves will also be gathered at the top. Hope it comes out looking good cause this is one of my own designs. I have a sweater design program I like to play with and usually try new features out when making the girls sweaters because they don't care if I mess up a little bit LOL they are just thrilled to get the sweaters. The second sweater will have lacy butterflys where this one has hearts if I can find a lacy butterfly motif pattern somewhere.
Enid just start with the stories you've already posted here put them in one file then add to them off and on and soon you'll have your book written.

I'm off to start my busy day exercise, hair cut hopefully, shopping for pants mine are not only a bit too big they are also so old they are starting to fall apart now they don't have anything to keep them in place LOL

I didn't get to do my wintersowing last night. Pout. Dh decided to stay home from class to get other homework done and hogged my kitchen table. He was also in a rotten mood so I hid in the bedroom and read my book with the kitty snuggled up beside me. I am fasting for my medical monitoring this morning, so blood sugar is low and I'm cranky because I can't have any caffine and my son was up half the night coughing.

Funny story though. At 5:30 this morning, little man came into my room and says "HI MAMA!!" I pulled him up into my bed and he had no diaper or pajama bottoms on. I asked him where his diaper was. He said "Anthony take off diaper and pants." If it wasn't that early it would have been really funny. I went and got him a pullup and we snuggled back in bed for an hour til it was time to get up.

Good news is tomorrow is the local Master Gardner's sale. I have a list! :D

My guess he would like some CP's. Gives a kid great pleasure to watch a plant eat bugs. LOL Nothing so healing as a moon vine unfurling and filling the air with fragrance. It will slow you down and reconnect you. Let us know when you're ready. I have a package in mind for you both.

Caleb likes to grow a garden so we may plant veggies n buckets..We talked about cp's he is excited to see a plant eat a bug..He couldnt believe that was even possible...Im going to have tokeep him busy because heis so used to being outside working and down on the fish ponds working staying clean and out of the sun is not going to be easy for him..He wont beallowed to go back to school till next year so now I have all that time during the day to keep him occupied too...I can only imagine how many times I 'm going to hear Im bored Momma, what can I do...He is hyper and hates to sit still..Oh well maybe alot of his friends can come over to keep him busy..I hadlots of containers ready to sow seeds in and be put out for the winter..I have to get these out soo Its not long till spring now..Im excited to see what seeds have sprouted in my other WS containers...So many thngs I want to plant before spring arrives..I hope you all have a great day..Trish

Robin asked me to post some picture from the Philadelphia Int'l. Flower Show that's going on this week. It's the largest indoor flower show in the world.

80,000 Freeze-dried flowers used to create the 28 foot high hot air balloon. Including 55,400 blue pansies to represent the oceans and 23,700 roses of different colors for each continent.

This exhibit was so cool. Everything suspended from the ceiling. The blue represents the sea, the tan the sandy beach. the greens are grass and trees, and the white the snow on the mountain tops.

I was told the woman who designed this took 10 hours on Friday to hang all of these.

Yes it was. If you enjoy gardening its the place to be. So many people who were there today were saying they're tired of the snow this year and needed the flower show. It has a way of energizing everyone. They come from all over all the world to see it. In past years, I've seen people from Italy, Ireland, England, Scotland, Brazil, Canada, Mexico

It's the largest indoor flower show in the world.

Well, I can do one better than that, I don't even know what a burg is, so there! The way my day has gone, if it isn't some type of liquor, I don't want it anyway. I have decided that if I stay drunk until this baby is grown, I won't be any the wiser. An 18 year blackout is what I am looking for!!!
It is kinda sad around here, the lawyers office called today; since I haven't paid my bill, I have to buy the beer tonight. Now, how does that work? Obviously, the lawyer and his assistant are friends of ours. Mike takes the assistant for "motorcycle rides". That's what THEY call them anyway. LOL They would beat me to death if they knew I told people in multiple states what goes on around here.

So, how's everybody doing today anyway?? Me, life sucks today - well most days, but more today than normal.
How's Caleb doin', when I remember how he is suffering, it kinda makes my problems seem pretty small.
Ok, I have babbled enough, back into my little world of vacuuming, sweeping, cleaning...

Nah, just been busy that's all. I made fondant last night as a trial for the kiddo's birthday party next month. Tonight it is a chocolate cake to put the fondant on.

Soapmaking is gonna have to wait until next winter since I am out of hobby budget. We did a lot of yard upgrading, including putting in a new garden that is going to have a Three Sisters planting in it.

I am slowly but surely reorganizing the gardens. So I now have the Herb Garden (which also contains lettuces, cabbages, and broccoli), the Three Sisters Garden, and the Cedar Garden, which is for everything else edible and root crops since it was built to be 10" high instead of 6". I am still debating about where to put the tomatoes, but am leaning toward putting them in the Cedar Garden vs. the Herb Garden. I need to get busy and get the borage seeds started, but keep forgetting about it in light of other stuff.

Nettie - thanks for the boost - nope, can't stay drunk for 18 yrs. Have a major hangover today - forgot how bad that feels - got that out of my system, won't do that again for awhile. I am in better shape than lawyer and his secretary though, they had court today and I went home before them. We had a good time, my lawyer is also a farmer so we chat farming - he needs help, he is not a good farmer, heck, I ain't real sure he is a good lawyer

Wow, you had your hands full when your kids were young! I can't imagine a baby that tiny!!

Everybody have a great day, it is 48 now, I am goin' outside. Did you guys know rhubarb tea gets rid of aphids? Read that today - thought that was pretty good info. Boil the leaves, add some soap flakes...be careful though, rhubarb leaves are poisonous.

The roots don't seem to really be that deep - I dug some up and it leaves about a half inch deep spot where it was.

It gets big and tough and soooooooo hard to get rid of. I have a field full of it and I just keep the most of it mowed down during the summer months as if I put the killer down I would lose all my flowers.

I'm still here, folks, just been busy. We finally got a sunny day around here, temps in the low 40's. I've been working at the airplane hanger with our mechanic on our Cessna 172 for the coming Spring inspection. Since I'm a newbie at this I need to get some practice in to get my required flying hours. The airport flying club owns all the planes (we now have seven), the maintenance gets busy this time of year. My favorite is old #532 shown below (last year's photo), but I've flown several others including a twin engine. Like a car we do routine stuff like changing oil and filters, tune-ups and other simple tasks. Hope to be flying soon.

I'm not going to jail for crabgrass killin' that's for sure - now I bet I can think of 50 other things I could do to get me there. Have to call police out here today anyway - garage got broken into last night. Stole DH big tools for working on trucks. Think it could have been someone that has been here and knows where he keeps stuff?? Looks kinda funny to me - that is all they took. There is some really good stuff out there - and all they took is tools.

62 right now - wind blowing like crazy - I goin' out there anyway. I WANT TO PLANT STUFF!!

Nettie - hug your hubby for me!! I spend 52.00 at Lowes for a big bag of crabgrass killer - glad I didn;t open it, I can take it back!!! At least now I know what it is and why when I drowned it in crabgrass killer I wouldn't die. The bad new is all I know to get rid of it is roundup - there is a bunch of this stuff in my lawn - gonna take forever to spray it all.

Seray - look at all the goodies I got yesterday. I have them hidden on the back porch right now, gotta move them to the barn before the storm hits - don't want to kill the plants no one knows Ihave. LOL!!

Ok Arejay, you are not the crazy one today! You did actually know what was going on (this time). You have a unique way of keeping me guessing though

54 here today - son goes back to work at Long John Silvers today - made him quit last summer to help with baby - now I want him to go back so he is out of my way. Took me months to figure out he is really not that much help. Now that I have the little guy on a schedule, things are a bit easier. At least we have a starting point...not that anything ever goes according to plan.

I can't wait to plant stuff - DH keeps reminding me of April 15, but I really really want to plant now. Got some Lily of the Valley, peonies and caladiums yesterday - I want to plant them!! Also bought 34 cents worth of seed potatoes yesterday - that will plant 12 bags - I think that should be plenty! DH throwing a fit about me growing stuff in trash bags, figures the city will be out here inspecting AGAIN - and make me get rid of them. I don't think they can make me kill off my food source so I am going to do it anyway.

Off to chase the baby - see you guys later.

Believe it or not, we are getting into a routine finally - things are a little easier. I sure has taken a long time to get everybody trained around here.

I don't know what I am gonna do with all of them yet - thinking of making a special little garden for them. Hummm, will probably use a broken semi wheel - I have plenty of those!!

I have got so much "junk" collected up for my yard - I don't know what I am going to do with it all. I will have little statues and stuff stuck everywhere!

Welcome back Mekos!

Whoo hoo! I was out today planting my tomatoes, peppers, and dill. :) Then, as I ran around watering things, I looked in the trash cans where I am growing my potatoes (first time trying these) and they had leaves. I'm stoked because I thought they were toast with all the cold and wet that we had.

Did you know Jar likes rocks??

I hope you have all had a great day, I certainly have. Played with baby, dug around in the house plants, played with my new little funky plants...

I think some of the smaller ones I will put in a dish of some sort Seray and sit them here, on my glider.

Some of the others may go on this stupid, ugly frog. I will buy most anything froggie - had this several years thinking it was just some sort of useless, ugly pot holder. I should have known better, but it is me. Anyway, I stuffed it and still don't really like it. I have had the $40.00 object for so many years now, it stays! I haven't liked it since I brought it home; worst part is, I didn't even know what it was.

Trash cans wasn't my idea either. but the principal was the same. Stick dirt in as the plants grow. Dump
'em out onto plastic sheeting and sort dirt from taters. I'm thinking its going to be a blast for kiddo. He already loves pulling carrots. We pulled 4 big fat ones out this afternoon. Now I just have to figure out what to make with them for supper.

Years ago I remember a mechanic friend that could turn an old auto car tire inside out to make kind of a neat urn planter. I never could quite figure out he did it, but it made a nice planter. They could even be stacked several high if you had the right size. Anybody else seen these, or know how to do it? What a great way to recycle an old tire!

I do use the tires for potatoes. I just plant the seed potatoes in the center of the tire and when they start growing I add another tire and more soil. I keep doing that until the tires are four high. Let the plants go to flower and dry up and then pull the tires off and harvest the potatoes.

I have a dream of a beautiful garden----so i'm working hard to make it happen. The las t two days have been wounderful here, the temp is around 60 and 65, but I work the night shift at a local hospital and have to sleep, so I have not had time to take advanage of the good weather. how is the weather in your area?

I've got quite a bit going on right now with plants I'm trying to grow for the first time. While others
I'm trying to keep alive that are offspring of plants that were started last year from our veggie garden.
I hope to learn a bunch and be able to share and improve my gardening skills. As well as to meet and

Wow! - The sun's out for the second day in a row, maybe Spring's on the way already. Its actually 50 degrees outside!

Okay, I started this winter sowing thing today. I'm trying to set a limit on this so keeping it down to just 12 milk jugs for now. My wife already thinks I'm crazy nuts about this project, I guess I'll just have to show her. I'm trying not to make a big mess anyway. I've got tons of seed to use from my newbie packs from everybody, so this project is good to go.

I'm also starting some early tomatoes to put under my lights. Some of the "New Yorkers" and "Wisconsin 55" seeds are from Gramp's stash left over from last year. He absolutely loved growing tomatoes even at age 92 until he passed on last November. These I'm going to grow these into transplants to ship around May 1st for other DG members that want them. Let me know by D-Mail if you can find space in your garden for 2 of Gramp's tomato plants and I'll send them to you later when ready.

LOL ... my mom cannot grow AVs either. Every AV she's ever had has died, whether it was from over/under watering them or not giving them the needed nutrients I really don't know but it seems she tends to kill them every time. So, now that she's found out that I can grow them with my eyes closed she buys me one every couple of months or so just so she can enjoy watching them grow and bloom.

The AV bloom pictured in my previous post is I believe "Rita" but am not sure as the description on Optimara's website says that "Rita" is a single ruffled bloom and the blooms on this one are either semi-double/double blooms as you can see in the picture I posted.

Here's a link to a picture of Optimara's "Rita" bloom - http://www.optimara.com/optimarafieldguide/varietiesm-z/rita.html

As you can see there the color and type of bloom is right but the rest is not, I'm wondering if maybe it's one of Optimara's discontinued AVs or maybe a "Rita" decided to go wild...lol

Morning Ladies - got most of my winter sowing done, now waiting for something (anything) to turn green.

We have tomarrow off Thursday, planning on going to the Rochester flower show all day. I have some friends up there from the Crosman Seed Co. that will have a huge seed rack display. Crosman is a heritage company in business since early 1800's with many oldie type seeds hard to find elsewhere. They have a neat website:

www.crosmanseed.com

If anybody wants to check over their website, I can pick up special (small) orders tomarrow right at the show. Prices are really cheap, most envelope packs are quite generous. I've had good luck ordering from this company. Contact my D-Mail.

Thanks for all the support and prayers. I am truly blessed by all of you. We are at the point of calm and ready to get it all over with. Arrangements have been made for the little guy. So now all we have to do is go have the surgery.

Nettie, I hope that your grandson is okay.

Enid, those tubes are a blessing. Anthony has them in his ears. We noticed an improvement in a day. Its been a year since they were put in and the change is astronomical.

Silver, those are beautiful! I have 2 AVs in my house that are alive, but have never re-bloomed.

Cotton Candy for a cure all? I'll go for that. The baby is fine - the first hour after surger was torture but he is better now.

Cold and rainy here - wont be working in yard for awhile.

I am ready for spring - can't wait to get things goin in the garden. DH worked on antique tiller today - hopefully he figured that thing out. It is a monster but it sure does a good job. I have a little bitty one too, but it is only good for ground that has been worked before. Need the monster to plow up my garden spot.

Al, if you are still willing to part with grandpa's maters, put me down for a couple. Sounds like we all need to grow our own tomatoes this year, sounds like they have had major crop failure this year. Good tomatoes will be the price of gold this summer.

Going to try and catch some zzzz's mornin' comes early.

candles - coffee grounds are a source of Nitrogen. They are good as a "green" in your compost pile or lasagna bed. They can also be added as mulch to acid-loving plants like Gardenias and blueberries... You were probably saving them for the lasagna bed - lol.

Well, hoping we don't get too much rain today as we have had a very wet winter and looking to be a wet spring as well...LOL Either way, my cosmos are really reaching up there in their new pots and the Green Beans are finally starting to really grow. We have one that broke ground about 2 weeks ago and I transplanted it into a bigger pot last night when I transplanted the rest of my Cosmos making the baby count up to around 30...LOL

My horses are disgusted with the weather, my gliders are sleepings, and my dog is just plain unhappy that she can't go out and sunbathe. Lord help her if she has to go out and potty in the rain, she's dainty that way ;)

lol...exactly, we don't know how she'd react in the snow since she's never been in snow and we were going to take her up to Tennessee this past Christmas but ended up not being able to go due to car trouble. We ended up spending close to $350 just fixing the intake in the car. Luckily it happened right before we were to leave and not after we had left and were in the middle of nowhere. Anyhoo, she is a "danty" little lady and with intelligence that makes ou wonder who is really in charge some times..LOL

She has been and is a wonderful girl. I most definitely could not have asked for a better animal than her. She pretty much potty trained and crate trained herself before she was 8 weeks old, was sitting on command by 9 weeks old, and minds wonderfully (She'll be 10 yrs old this October). We don't even have to use a leash on her but do fo rthe "in case" as you can never tell what may or may not set an animal "off". No matter what she knows she's the baby and it doesn't take much for her to get jealous. She's been a great birth control method for my husband and I. Only problem being we don't have any children and would like some...LOL

Least she minds LOL mine only minds if she takes a notion. Most of the time she's pretty good but there's some situations where she will ignore every command given simply because she knows best LOL. She will be 9 in October and we have 2 of her sons also who will be 2 in April. One is a sweetheart and minds real good, the other is a terror who only minds grudgingly when it's a conflict of what he wants to do and what we want him to do. His newest tatic to keep from having to come in is to stand or sit very still like a statue and pretend he's invisible.

MIL had a red and tan hound who used to come to our trailer to see what kind of scraps got thrown out for the wildlife across the road and there was a huge oak tree near the spot. Everytime Hobo heard DH opening the door he would get behind that tree and stand perfectly still and look in any direction but towards the trailer. He never did figure out that he was still visible because the tree wasn't wide enough to hide all of him LOL.

Hello everyone! I just joined and sent off my envie and stamps for my free newbie seeds yesterday! I am very excited to be here and very much looking forward to learning from you all! Not sure if this is the place for an intro, but here's a bit about me:

My hubby and I have gardened for years, mostly veggies and herbs, and only on a backyard scale, but we now live on a ten acre farm and have jumped into full-fledged homesteading and self-sufficiency--with a goal of supporting ourselves at some point with market gardens and possibly grassfed meats. We specialize in heirloom veggies and all kinds of herbs, and I'm sooo excited to finally have the space to grow everything I've been dreaming of, lol!

I also homeschool my two teenage boys and although they weren't thrilled with our decision to become farmers at first, they are actually enjoying the country life so far. :)

I do have a couple of blogs that I don't post on often enough, but it is a fun hobby:

47 and extra windy here today - going to plant my taters in trash bags today - hope the little buggers grow, I spent 34 cents on my seed potatoes - don't want that big investment to go to waste.

I do have some good news on my nephew today. He got to go to his dad's finally after almost 3 months in the hospital and rehab center. He's not really ready to be discharged having lost what he gained the first time after more surgeries on his arm and leg but he is finally on the mend it looks like. And since he wants back with his mom he'll work hard to get on his feet now.

Mitt this seed junkie is happy to report it looks like your irises are coming through our winter well. They've peeked their green leaves out once only to be froze back under cover but are right back to peeking out again.

I know they are tough I've dug them up and just throwed them on the ground somewhere since no one wanted them (this was before DG) and they just put their roots down and went right on growing and blooming. I can't wait to see all the new colors from you and I also rescued some that my Mom had bought me a long time ago have not clue what color since they were mixed colors and weren't blooming where I dug them up. I also moved some pale yellow ones last year. So I expect to have a rainbow of them to enjoy this year.

Thanks Honeybunch and seray...She really is a sweet girl, in fact the only time my girl ignores a command is when it's bath time. She cannot stand baths and won't even go out and do her business in the rain and will hold it as long as possible to avoid having to go out in the rain. Then it's out into the yard and into the bushes. Heaven forbid if anyone should actually see her as to her mind a lady should never been seen doing something like that in public or where it could be stepped in by her.

As for commands and not listening I can honestly say that the only time she doesn't listen is when it's bath time. Then the only person she will listen to is my husband as she has bonded more with him than myself.

Mindy, your boy there sounds like a real ham and I wonder what he would do if you fenced in an area that he couldn't get out of or hurt while being in and just left him there all night when he pulls that little trick of his?...LOL
I think he may change his mind about not listening to come in when it's time. Of course, it may take a few times to get the full point across but I'm sure seeing his sister and any other dogs inside while he's stuck outside may change his mind on that.

Sapphire, sorry to hear about the cancellation and panic attack. Just keep in mind that it's more than likely a blessing in disguise. I'll be sure to keep you and your husband in my prayers.

That goes to everyone else going through difficult times right now as well. .

Welcome Zee, It's always good to see that there are other newbies here besides myself :)

Nettie, I think we all stay in trouble and even though we may try to stay out of trouble, trouble always seems to find us.. at least that's the way it is for me...LOL

OH Cedar I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. Prayers for you and your family and we are here to listen when you need to let something out or burst.

Silver Smokey would be quite happy to stay outside LOL the only reason he doesn't get to is because part of our yard is beside a public road and no fence plus neighbors who can't drive worth a hoot on a one lane country road (they treat it like it's their own private driveway) plus the fact of the three he's the most adventurous and likes to exporle new territory and I just don't want to have to go hunt him up on 360 acres of land since he has very good selective hearing. He also hates baths but figures it's worth it to get an extra special treat for suffering through one.

Soo sorry to hear of your loss Cedar, I'll be sure to keep you and your family in my prayers. I've dealt with several losses in my life including the loss of my only brother (older brother), but still it's never easy losing someone you are close to and/or grew up with, and Marti is right the pain may not go away but time will help you through it all. Some days will be worse than others but ALWAYS remember that your sister is in a better place where she can look over you and your family and act as a guardian angel of sorts.

Mindy,

I understand what you mean and you're definitely right, trying to find a dog on 360+ acres of land as well as the rest of the surrounding area would be enough to drive anyone insane...LOL I also know what you mean with countries roads given my grandparents lived in Indiana out in the country and there isn't much maintenance done on the roads if any and people do use them however they see fit no matter who is living around them or the damage caused to the road at all and they were lucky to see 4 cars/trucks drive down the road per day.

I'm thinking positive today! Tulips are up, tomato seeds sprouting green tops, turned my light stand on and it actually worked after a long rest! Started some basil, chives, and dill herb seeds. Some of my winter sowing project got washed out by the rain, but I still have a lot left that's okay. Spring may finally be coming, nice clear weather predicted for the week! Helped my mechanic push the airplane out of the hanger yesterday for our first Spring start-up test. Yippee!
