Every year I do this and I am never satisfied. I have been looking high and low for neat looking baskets or plastic containers to display my produce in at the Farmers' Market. I have only a standard pickup truck, so the items need to nest when transporting to and from the market. Huberts have exactly what I want , a pale green plastic woven basket, but they are over $20 a piece and I have to buy a whole case. I am looking for something about 12 inches x 20 inches and 3-4 inches high. I want it to look natural but washable and sturdy. I need about a dozen. Any ideas?
Also , I have been using milk crates to pick in . I bought them about 20 years ago and the rough use they have received in that time has just about made them useless. I am looking for 20- bushel sized lugs. Used is ok , if they cost less than new. I would pick them up if close by( less than 300 miles one way) to save shipping cost. Smaller sized would be ok since I am no Spring chicken. I pick into 3 1/2 gallon buckets to save my back. The crates would be used for hauling to market.
As long as I am on a role, I will be selling greens to a couple of restaurants. What kind of boxes would make me look more professional and where would I get them?
