Dyson, we still have the claw foot bathtub at home and the small bathrom sink with the same handles I grew up with. The tub has completely lost its inner coating after years of Comet and other cleansers. Dad had to fix the tub handles after I moved out. If turned on all the way they rumbled. Mom called it his motorboat. He left them on, but I'm not sure if he just added a washer or what. Just to see ground again will be a happy day here :o)

Ric, lovely little Hellebore!

Bernie, oh my gosh! I completely forgot lamb or lion. i was just focused on it being March, LOL! NW wind 5 - 10 mph. LAMB! You have a lot more snow than me. I hope it starts melting down. Gorgeous little violet!

It's 29* now, and to be mostly cloudy, in the lower 30's and breezy all day.

They really enjoyed filling their buckets to fill in the Rose Bed path.

Sun is coming up.
We are in a death grip! Our temperatures were 10 colder than the forested part of Minnesota.
We are like a cooler full of ice compared to a cooler that is empty. Don't warm up very fast with all the snow.
Finishing odds & ends of the current kitchen job. I sanded down the two countertops & the mantel for the fireplace/TV/wine cabinets. Going to look really nice,I hope!

Son planted tomato seeds Saturday, so gardening is underway.
Stopped at a home show Sunday. Talked to a guy that does landscapes & ponds. I have him coming to give me an estimate on doing a water falls, brook & pond. I could do it, but figure a pro will do better on the liners.
This is what I'm taking out & redoing. Falls will be where the old pond was, new pond will be about where the white daisies are. Old pond is behind the bird bath.

You folks have been busy chatting away. My DGS was here over the week-end and he always appropriates my laptop for himself so I didn't have a lot of time online over the week-end. LOL Nice photos everyone. Some of you really have a LOT of snow! WOW
BP: love the rose garden==so pretty and how nice that the grandkids got to take part in making it. :o))

The sun that the weather liars said we would have today has not materialized.
It 's overcast here. Last week they were saying we would be up into the 50's with sunshine all week--now it is down to the upper 40's and overcast. Still, it does feel like spring is on the way--the birds are chirping and singing, the robins are searching for worms in the yard, green things are poking up through the dirt, so spring surely can't be far behind!

# Today: Cloudy. High 46F. Winds NE at 5 to 10 mph.
# Tonight: Cloudy skies. Low 34F. Winds N at 5 to 10 mph.

Bernie, a cooler full of ice. Very descriptive. I suddenly felt bad for a can of beer :o)
Don't we get to an age where we're willing to let someone else handle a big job. We could have done the metal roofs on the garages ourselves, but we helped the kid we hired, to do the house, and I talked DH into letting the pro's in. Especially since I would have been on the ground lifting the pieces up to him. I kept picturing my head being cut off if I let go :o) That picture is gorgeous! The pond is going to be wonderful there, sigh...

Thank you Mau! They had fun helping and learned some skills. Robins... sigh

Celia, hose, giggle. Yikes! Is that called pollarding?

Thank you Chrissy. We're getting them Thursday overnight. They haven't been here much lately. Wow, what are you building?

Weather liars were wrong here too. We are already 42* even tho it's cloudy. Lower 30's were predicted. I'll take it, but they were wrong.

I've been listening to the cardinals since they changed their winter song, for a week now. Spring surely is on it's way here.

Crissy, you can always take your extra veggies to the Farmers Market and sell them!

Our high didn't get past 42F today and the wind was blowing so it has seemed colder but at least we don't have any snow like so many of you do. The cloud cover remained all day so it didn't warm up to predicted levels but they are promising sunshine and warmer temps for the rest of the week. We'll see.

Crissy, you can always donate your extras to a local food pantry. They don't get fresh stuff very often and love it when someone does that.

BP: The county maintains the roads but they can't do much right now since there are still some spots that are frozen. Grading won't happen for awhile I don't think and they don't do a full coverage with gravel very often.

Chrissy, LOL, that's a spinach patch for us :o) It was a beautiful moon! Ironically, I see it from the bathroom window when I'm, ahem, sitting :o)

Dyson, my sympathy. I hope to not see another snowflake this year.

Thanks Marsue, a cold wind is as bad as snow. It's all a delay :o(

Rusty, poor JuJu. But she'll be up and running in a day or two.

Pepper, your service sounds like DD's. They have tree lined gravel and it too stays frozen. They get the skinpy end of the gravel, living on a dead end with no school bus picking up kids yet. Dang those north winds!

We ran the Grandson home last night and had 4 deer cross at the Wapsi creek just before dusk. It's about 2 miles out of town. Then, we were half way home and there were 10 to 15 of them in a field. The headlights caught a lot of eyes as we turned the corner. We got back home without seeing any more.

Upper 30's & low 40's for the next week!
Spring maybe is going to come.
Last night they had a clip on the snow depth & water content. There is 4" to 6" of water in the snow pack in all of MN. Better get ready downstream on the Mississippi, water will be a risin!

We got our trailer out of the snowbank today. What a job. Finally swiped some wet gravel off the road & put it under the truck tires. When it got traction it came right out. We are going to load the cabinets Sunday & take off first thing Monday morning.

If this works like it should, I can do cabinets for anybody anywhere!

24 and frosty. The snow is slowly melting and the bucket of squirrel corn is almost empty. I woke up yesterday with a very dry burnt throat and sinus headache. Wah!

Celia, beautiful bike! Is he a travelling man? Gorgeous color on the hellebore!

LOL Pepper! Just your size :o)

Poor Adina, hang on to those snowdrops! Winter just doesn't want to let go.

Kiska, not a nicer coffee time to be found. DH's foot looks pretty good. Where did you get the wonderful horse? The whole room is beautiful!

Marsue, now you have a new place to visit! It would be very interesting to see a rain forest in person. I had to bookmark that link for later.

Ric, you amaze me with all you do.

Kiska, I look forward to pictures of the kiln work. How nice to have a friend who shares your interests!

Adina, I hope your snow melts as fast as it appeared. Lovely colors on the dishes. So much talent on this thread!

34 and SUN, SUN, SUNNY!!! this morning! The forecast calls for plenty of sun and highs around 40 for the next week.

Adina...Love the colors on the glass work.

We have been having lows in the mid-teens every night and highs in the 30-40 range. The maple syrup producers have to be loving it!

It was extremely foggy last night with a low of 17 so I went out this morning and took a few photos of the frost.

Ric: you amaze me, too, with all that you do and all your interests. It's a wonder you have time to sleep!!
Kiska: hope you enjoy the link to the rain forest. Hooray for Frank!
Adina: I love the colors on the glass work your DD painted. What kind of plants are you covering with the plastic bottles in the snow?
EB: lovely photos but it doesn't look like spring is on the way to your place!

A lovely day here--sunshine and in the high 50's. I have spent some time weeding out in the flowerbeds. I discovered several plants are beginning to push up green leaves through all the dead leaf mulch. :o)) "They" are saying we have a cold front coming through at the end of the week, though. :o((

Pepper, I hear you on the brown.

I woke up to Peppers rain at 5:00 am, but it moved out already. It's only 35, but it's rain!

My sore throat and sinus pressure is gone. Quickest ''sick'' I've ever had.

Up & working early.
Yesterday was first day this month without sun.
High was 44
Temperature overnight, 33.6
Rain yesterday.
Overcast this morning. Sunny later.

Made up a loading sheet to get the cabinets in the trailer. Lots of room!
We will load this afternoon & leave early in the morning.

Made 3 new drawers for a man. Probably going to deliver them today. Replacing some made with particle board. The fronts fell off. They stapled the crap together. Factory made!

We have a bath vanity & Linen closet to do next.
Also, I will be trimming out a house in the next few weeks. All trim is original, redone. I will be matching where pieces are missing. It has 8" high baseboards. We are making corner blocks for that. Not original to the house, but should be there to complete the look.

Also promised another couple I would finish a porch they started a number of years ago. They had a leaky roof so held off on finishing the inside. Roof has been redone now.
Guy who did the roof originally had the shingles over the siding instead of the siding over the shingles like it should be. Where do they find these guys?
We didn't need Mike Holmes to figure it out either!

The good news - almost 100% germination rate on the Cauliflower "Early Snowball" obtained from Seed Savers Exchange.

The bad news - I have lost the modest amount of garden space behind the house and apartment that I was granted to use last year and have at this point no idea where I am going to plant this year.

Kiska, anything below zero does not compute!

Dyson, that's a tough call. Congrats on the germination.

I went out, got some fresh air and picked up sticks while I was at it. Still some piles and drifts of snow, but a lot of bare spots. We got up to about 44. Not bad, but still have a wet chilly wind. I found no sprouts at all to photograph, sigh...

High 50s and partly cloudy all day.

Ran around with a friend and we went to Sedalia, MO to try the Guberburgers that are made at the Wheel Inn Drive. The orginal building in the original location is gone but they opened up about a mile down the road by the fairgrounds and are still serving the same stuff. The burger was pretty good!! I was impressed! For those of you who have never heard of the place, it's Guberburgers are made with peanut butter and salad dressing on them. You can't really taste the salad dressing but you can taste the peanut butter and it's really mellow.

We've had an unprecedented amount of snow this year. Prompted a warning from the government to clear snow from roofs for fear of collapse. This was followed a couple of days later by appeals from hospitals. In Helsinki alone thirty people needed surgery for falling off their roof while snow clearing! We have a flat roof shared with our neighbours. Neighbour and I cleared a hundred cubic metres of tight packed snow.

40 and cloudy. I helped my Dad load wood this morn. The power company hired tree trimmers to clear the trees from under the lines across the road. There were a few walnut trees, mulberry and elm. He cut and I loaded. He just burns it in the barn to take the chill off.

Dyson Oh My Gosh!!!!!!! Hurry and get well!! My phone won't post what I type.

Hi Kiska! Ug, way too much snow.

I've been shopping for tires instead of working. I have a deal with the people I normally get oil changes and we got tires for Dave's truck from them, they're offering me Cooper CS4 Touring T 80,000 mile treadwear warranty, they say their normally $167.00 each, they'll sell them to me for $151.00 each and they come with free rotations for as long as I own the car. I'm trying to find them for sale at an online dealer so I can check the price.

(((((((((((((((((((((Dyson)))))))))))))))))))))))) Get well SOON!!!

I'm sorry I haven't been posting much lately... TOOOO much going on! (Nothing traumatic or dramatic, just draining. ^_^ ) We decided to put in wood laminate floors instead of the polished concrete. The guys are going to be here Monday to install it in the bunnies' room and the hallway. Yayy! (We also asked for an estimate in the kitchen, but we will probably have to save up for a few months for it. Next year, the living room!) We're going to paint the walls in the bedroom and halls now, while the old carpet is still there, so I'm cleaning the rooms and sorting through toys, and trying to figure out where to store everything. The bunnies will be camping out in the living room until their room is ready, which they will enjoy. :-) I'll take before and after pictures for you peeps. ^_^

In the meantime, spring has definitely sprung here, and the weeds are taking over in the garden!!! I'm not sure when I'm going to be able to get out there, but it needs to be SOON or we'll need a machete to get to the driveway. LOL

Hang in there, everyone! Spring really IS coming!!

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY RIC AND ADINA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope both of you had great days and I'm so sorry I missed it!!

Rusty the county I live in was hit pretty good. I was watching that same cell from Dallas, TX yesterday afternoon and it had tornado warnings on it the whole way. As soon as it got real close to Lonsdale, AR they pulled the tornado warning off of it, it went over, they put the tornado warning back on and it came down and tore up a whole bunch of houses and all. This same cell lifted again, then went to west Little Rock and came down again, then got real bad just north of I-40 in Conway County I believe.

Well, Crissy, here we all were in Arkansas worrying about you and you were safe in Dallas!!!

No damage in my area and the other DGers in central Arkansas are all safe, as well, as far as I know.

There were three counties in Arkansas that suffered damage from the storms last night and, unfortunately, there was one fatality. We had heavy fog this morning but the sun has quickly burned it off.

# Today: Areas of dense morning fog. Sun and clouds mixed. High 69F. Winds WSW at 10 to 15 mph.
# Tonight: Isolated thunderstorms during the evening. Mostly cloudy skies after midnight. Low 43F. Winds light and variable. Chance of rain 30%.

Currently 50F on my back porch. Should be a good day for weeding since the ground is wet.

Fog this morning about 7:20 a.m.

Ric, what a fabulous place! I could live in there! How tall was the waterfall? I couldn't tell, but I could almost hear the water!

Rusty, it does sound funny! I hope JuJu gets used to the noise, but I have my doubts. I love a good storm as long as it's not a tornado or high winds.

Chrissy, how lucky can you get? I'm sure sorry for those who lost a house.

Mau, I'm glad you and friends were safe. Nice fog picture!

Kiska, neat picture for you too! Is that all lake behind them?

Celia, awwww!

It was sunny breezy and got up to 56 before it got cloudy. I cleaned the sideporch and vacumed the house. Both needed to be done!

I am anxious to get gardening.. which will start next week. We finally have decent temps in the middle to upper 60's! We are still getting rain but we need it so that our summer won't be so drastic!
I hope to post more as time goes on.

Ric: that Conservatory looks like a wonderful place! It would be great to be able to visit it!
Yep, Ric, those photos of the tornado damage pretty much tell the story. Tornadoes can do the strangest things--such as driving a wooden post through a telephone pole. A 79 year old man was killed in one of the tornadoes last night when his home was destroyed. He and his wife and son were blown out of the house and were found under debris. The wife is still in the hospital with injuries to her pelvis and sternum--I'm not certain about the condition of the son. The people in the area said they had no warning and that the sirens in their area didn't go off until after the tornado hit. However, if they had been watching TV they would surely have heard about the bad weather heading their way. It was all over the local stations!
Kelli: nice wildflowers!
Yum, Adina--that cake looks delicious. You always post the yummiest looking photos of your desserts!

As usual the day after a day of bad storms, the weather was beautiful today. I spent some time outside weeding but the soil was really too wet--it kept sticking to the roots of the weeds so I gave up after about an hour. This afternoon I spent about an hour in the porch swing reading a magazine and just enjoying being outdoors. Friday enjoyed it, too. While I was outside, I took some photos of the plants that are emerging after their winter's sleep. I made a collage with nine of the photos although there are several more plants that are coming up now.
the plants in the collage are from top left to right: "David" phlox; "Minnie Pearl" phlox; "Cherry Bells" Campanula; 2nd row: Green Hellebore; Autumn Joy Sedum; Hollyhock; 3rd row: Red Fox Veronica; Blue Fortune Agastache; Red
Gaillardia.

The hollyhocks are some I grew from seed which I think Early Bloomer sent to me a couple of years ago. :o))

48F now after another day of sunshine and a high of 67F ! Looks like rain for the next few days. Flood warnings are posted for much of the state. You know spring is truly here when the tornadoes arrive.

Kiska...The girl they believe was killed by a wolf in Alaska was from Pa. Slippery Rock is a little over an hour south of here. Link to story: http://www.postgazette.com/pg/10070/1041963-54.stm

ric...Sharon Stone grew up and attended school in Saegertown, a little town near here. I pass through there every day on the way to work. She's still a big deal in these parts...
The conservatory looks great. I recently saw a program on the gardens at the Cincy zoo on PBS. they were impressive as well.

adina...the best thing about your cake is it's low calorie because the orange slices cancel out the "cake" part!

Kelli...looks like you're in full bloom there. Here, we are starting to see patches of brown grass.

I went for my first bike ride of the year this evening. It was mostly cloudy by then and the temp was dropping. The difference between the cool and warm pockets of air I rode through was quite dramatic!

I sure hope that if it was a wolf attack they were human raised.

There's growing evidence that even the dreaded Siberian Wolf attacks were by rabid, hurt or starving animals.

Cindy Welcome Back!

We had the first real Spring day today.

40 and Dyson Dark! I heard a hoot owl real early this morning.

Kelli, I've never had flavored honey, just the clover. I thought maybe all gooseberries were edible, but I guess not.

Cindylove, people come and go, but it's always nice when they show up again!

Adina, you made us the cake we all needed. I can't even imagine how good it tastes! I'm really sorry for your troubles in the snow. I hope it's over soon.

Pepper, I imagine your rain will be here today. Hope your roads aren't too slippery to drive.

Kiska, you're warming up! That's a big lake then! Huge snowpiles!

Marsue, it's always sad when someone dies in a tornado. Many times I'd be working outside all day. DH would call from work and ask if the storm had hit yet. I'd ask "what storm?" I'd find out nasty weather was about 20 minutes away as the crow flies. It's easy to be naive sometimes. I love the collage! Everything is fresh and new!! The Hellebore is beauyiful! I can even see the freckles!

The wolf attack is so sad. I really feel for the kids that rode ahead.

Early, if we get one Spring like day, we don't mind the chilly days as much. The beautiful sky cancels out the dirty snow, LOL!

Ric, LOL! No other explanation! I like those wild storms, as long as no tornados!! It helps clean dead branches out of the trees. I've been picking up just a few, since I got the most of it picked up earlier this year.

Celia, I have a short anemone, cream. It was supposed to be rose red. I'd love to have the tall, but everyone I planted died.

EB: At least your roads are clear even though you still have snow on the ground. Dirty snow is not pretty but I do like the photo especially after you dressed it up some. :o)) I'll post some photos of the hollyhocks when they flower. That was just one plant of several that are looking really good.
That is so sad about the young woman who was killed by the wolf. Wild animals are, after all, wild and it is hard to predict what they will do in any given situation.
Dyson: are you still in the hospital or did they release you? I hope you are feeling better!
BP: Hi! How's the new computer working for you?
Crissy: LOL-- so you weren't in Dallas after all!

It's cooler today- by about 10-15 degrees. We had some rain earlier but the son has come out now. The weather lady just said more clouds would be coming back in later. :o((

# Today: Rain showers early becoming more intermittent for the afternoon. High 58F. Winds WNW at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 40%.

Darius, a wonderful weather report from you! Loved the umbrellas!

Glad that you're home Dyson. And I know that you glad as well. Like Jackie said...'keep posting' and keep getting better. :)
Jackie, It was only 12! At least it was sunny! Glad that Frank feels like doing something. He must be feeling better & better.
Pepper? Getting snow? Hope it's not gonna be much.

Well, past my bed time.

Dyson WELCOME HOME!

Well we were busy today.
We dragged all the lumber out of the garage and did an inventory.
Got up a lumber list and headed for Lowe's.

Just about got the base for the new Shed done before the weather moved in.

2-3 hours of T & L here... tons of rain too.

All quiet now...

BBL I'm playing Ketchup.
So are the Hellebores

Kiska, the snow on your deck says it all! I'll bet Frank wore himself out!

Dyson, I smile. Now tell me you enjoy the dark more when you can stay home in it.

Pepper, a bigger smile. Nothing like a storm to make you feel like your cupboards are bare. Nice storm picture!

Joey, we went nighty-nite about the same time :o)

Ric, I love to inventory and put back neatly. Can't wait to see the shed! The blooms begin and they look good!

Adina, melting snow for you. I really hope it lasts! I saw our first robin the other day! Yep, the snow is getting dirty. Time for it to go!

44 rain and wind. It's back out of the northwest so not so nice out now! No one here really has wind all the time do they?

Adina I keep forgetting Robins are a different bird over there.
Cute little guys!

Kiska I take it Frank is getting bored? lol!

We almost got the base for the new shed done before the bad weather popped in.

Breakfast smells good, Dyson! I'm sure your DW is cooking you something heart-healthy! I know it feels good to be home!
Kiska and Adina, hopefully your snow will melt and you both will see flowers blooming soon, although that may be asking too much for Alaska but maybe not for Romania!
Kiska: I can't believe Frank was out in 12 degree weather shoveling snow and without anything on his head! I am such a wimp when it comes to cold weather--I would have been bundled up so much you wouldn't have been able to tell who I was! LOL
Ric: pretty color on that hellebore. I noticed the bloom was drooping so I assume that is a characteristic of hellebore blooms? I thought the blooms on mine were drooping because they got "bit" by the snow. Good luck with the shed project. In your picture above, Wu seems to be saying, "Now put that shed right here." LOL
Celia and BP: Werewolves and mummies--oh, my!! ROFLOL

Bernie hasn't posted in a few days. He must be really busy--which is good for him!

No rain for us this morning. It has been overcast but the sun is peeking out now. Maybe it will turn out to be a nice day after all. I'd like to get outside and do some more weeding. The winter weeds are having a heyday in my flower bed where I put the latest load of horse manure last fall!
# Today: Rain showers early becoming more intermittent for the afternoon. High around 55F. Winds WNW at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 40%.
# Tonight: Mostly cloudy skies. Low 44F. Winds WNW at 10 to 15 mph.

"They" are predicting mid-60's for the next few days. Spring is trying to come back again. :o))

Another photo of my hellebore. I had to lift up the bloom with a stick so you could see the inside of the bloom a little better.

Yes Mau one unfortunate characteristic of Hellebores is drooping flowers.
We have our in semi-raised beds. That helps a bit.
They do though raise to about perpendicular w/ the ground as they strengthen.

There are a few up facing Hellebores now.
I'm sure they will become more and more common as time passes.
The problem w/ them is the pollen gets wet in a rain.
Hard to get seeds!

Pepper, glad you don't have more snow coming. I think everyone is extra tired of winter this year.

Adina, lucky you!!! Cute little birdies!

I need to get out and get pics of my hellebores but I'm still trying to get over being sick. A few outings w/Darrell in the evenings are all I can manage.

47.1 F We got to 54 yesterday.

Mau, thanks for the encouragement! I sure hope Spring is on the way as it's warming up.
I love your hellebores and look how many plants you have popping up! I visited the link about the Rain Forest...amazing! I found out I have 2 species of philodendron and gave me an idea of a rain forest in my conservatory. I saved the link and will study it.
Ric, wow, you got a new project started! You go, Ric and Robyn! That botanical garden is amazing!
Jackie, I can't believe Frank is shoveling...gets me worried and I'm sure you too...uh! But I'm glad he's feeling better.
Celia, love your buddies!
E_B, great pictures! So scary about that girl!
Kelli, love those blooms!
Crissy, good you are OK after the storm.
Sally, what a cute mascot!
Joey, how's the terarrium?
I'm at work, have 3 more hours to stay...grrr! See you later, guys!
I have an orange moon from March 1st.

Quiet/snow covered/beautiful.
Adina~hopefully you've had the last of the snow and spring flowers will be popping up. Nice oragne moon and birds.
ric~fast work; looks good.
'morning Dyson.
Frank is getting bored-being able to put some weight on his foot gives him much more stability. The ice-cleats on the crutch became packed w/snow so he found it much harder to get back to safety~
pepper~love the view of the landscape.
hi Joey~
kwanjin~I see an interest in dinos there. Great idea for a pic.
marsue~mid-60's sounds perfect. Love the little blossom.
2 little berries-yesterday.
