I have requested RWB in many swaps...usually do my practice blocks in RWB, and got all those RWB blocks to make the quilt for my son...sew...I decided I needed something else...

    sorry Doc...hope your not dizzy...

hmmmmm...wonder if I could reupholster my sofa with RWB blocks???? now that would be COOL!!!!!

next swap I will have to go back to RWB...I did do the fat 1/4 swap RWB :-)

that sure would be pretty in a little ''sitting'' room, or a ''tea''room...screened in sun room...where it would not actually get much sun!!

three rough and tumble guys here...that would definitely not work in my house !!

but I can appreciate the pretty...
.we actually had a ''patched'' sofa, many a year ago...it was a sofa given to us..back when we could not afford to buy anything...and it was comfy, and fabric started to wear out...so I sewed patches on it , just like we all did to our jeans back then...wish I had a picture of that old thing...

good to see ya again Doc...

When my nephew was young and VERY rough, I used to love to patch his jeans. He let me do "cool things" to them. I still remember the huge bandaid print iron on patch we used once on the knees of a pair of jeans. The car fabric I used... with "Going" "GOING" on the front of his jeans (GONE on his bottom!) Besides patches that were "necessary" we used to add a few just for decorative purposes...

This cat is too funny for words. I have tenatively named her Jalouse, French for jealous (female). She can't stand to see me on the phone and tried to put herself between the cell phone and my ear. She pushes the mouse away when she gets a chance. When I came home from work today it was obvious she "had fun" with my laptop. I had LOTS of programs open AND the cap lock on!!!

I'm attempting to get some of these blocks worked into quilt tops. I might shock the heck out of all of you and POST pictures someday! LOL

OBVIOUSLY I have NOT forgotten you gals!!! LOL... I mean I follow a thread/swap that I am not even in!!! LOL

My husband has been here since late Thursday and he will leave tomorrow. It's always hard to see him go. He took out the old gas fireplace insert and slid in a different, more effective one. It's a lot nicer looking too. He went back to bed this morning, he's not feeling well & I'm headed to work. We had lots of company for Easter.

Jalouse is adorable and funny. I got her right into the vet's and got her sprayed. She won't leave her stitches alone so we had to put an Elizabeth collar on her. She got the stitches out yesterday AND got to take off the collar. Oh my!!! Last night she was chasing her tail and doing flips in the air!! I'll ask my husband to get some pictures for me so I can get one posted.

Things are going well. husband is making headway on the Boise house and hopes to move here soon.

I used to address the envelopes with the address and on the inside write the dimensions and colors of each person that I needed to mail a block to. I would organize them by colors so I did all the "same colors" at one time. If I had multipe swaps going on, I but the info for both on ONE envelope for anyone I had in both swaps.

I brought back a whole trunk load of flower starts from Boise last weekend and have been swamped at work ever since.

I even missed church today, I slept right thru! I'm gone out twice in the last 48 hours to the most distant place we do investigations. My boss's days for on-call were Friday, Sat & Sun but her daughter went into labor early... so I had her days too. I have slept ALL daY, no calls yet today thankfully.

We have 2 new people hired to start this month. I can't wait until they can carry a share load of on-call. I'm exhausted.

Only sewing I have done is mending or hemming... I miss quilt blocks!

LOL... you ladies are just TOO sweet!!! Would you believe 1/2 way thru the day the ONLY other therapist called in sick she was vomiting (she was the on-call today, so I got the rest of HER shift! Jeez, it sucks to be salaried!). I'm the SCHEDULED on-call tomorrow!!! IF ANY other therapist makes it to work tomorrow, SHE can be on-call, I don't care that I'm scheduled!!! This is INSANE!

We got high bad winds today, THAT wouldn't be so bad but when we get winds we get MAJOR dust-outs! Roads actually close because of poor visability with the blowing dust. My allergies were killing me today until I realized THAT is why I feeling so bad and took some allergy medicine. I can be so slow to "get it!" I have not had allergies until the last few years so when I feel exhausted and can't sleep it off I just assume I'm "coming down with something", I dont' think of allergies!

When the next swap comes up, let me know. Work or no work I need some quilting time!!! All work and no quilting makes a GRUMPY Pat!

Thunder, you have two pieces in your stash that are calling my name. The top row, medium red with white swirl (between the two dark reds). The 2nd row, dark blue with a few white dots. Where did you get them?? Of course there are MORE in there that are awesome but I'm trying to be good!!!

I love the "weave" pattern you chose. Makes a nice block.

I think the red you are referring to...is actually a valentines design...sent to me by Judy / sissy in the fat 1/4 swap.

blue one came from Joannes...if you can not find there let me know and I will go see if they still have it here!!!

that is just one of the blocks I want to do, I have a bunch picked out to do...some for the row robin swap I am in, some just because...RWB...

can't find it at the moment, but it is a fairly easy block...it is all 1/2 square triangles!! look closely...8 RW 8 BW...you could figure it out I am sure...I could if I sat with some paper, and a pencil...sew...I know you can!!!!

AW... ok, kind of like reversing ONE of the ends when doing the flying geese method. I can do that. I just hate to cast off pieces. I like the other methods of making triangles, better where you stack the squares and sew thru the middle twice and cut them apart. clear as mud right?

    very clear !!!

you can do them this way !! you need to have 8 half square triangles that are red and white, and 8 half square triangles that are blue and white.

sew 1/2 square triangles together into 4 rows of 4...just be sure to turn the right way!!

    1st row...blue, red, blue, blue
    2nd blue, red, red, red
    3rd red, red, red, blue
    4th blue, blue, red, blue

I can never remember the "measurement trick" to do them that way, and get the sizes I want!!!

Ok, I thought it looked more like the method shown in the picture was the flying geese method where you cut away the excess. I can do it the 1/2 square way. The only trick will be to get them matched PERFECTLY to get that look. It is a VERY cool pattern!

Thunder and Pat --- What you would cut at 3 1/2" square and then cut in half to make a triangle, you would cut at 3 7/8" and NOT cut. Stack together, stitch on both sides of the diagonal middle and cut apart. This would give you two completed squares.

For each FINISHED (after seams are sewn) size square you want to make just add 7/8" to it for the cut size. Ex: 3"finished = 3 7/8" cut, 4" finished = 4 7/8" cut.
Hope this makes sense to you. I don't always explain things very well...

For Thunders block above you would need 4 red, 4 blue and 8 white cut at 3 7/8", draw the diagonal line on the back of the white and sew one white to each colored square on both sides of the line. Cut apart on the line and press to the dark.. Lay out in the pattern you want and then sew together.

Great idea Sondra - that would make them very accurate. Or if you have a hard time with 1/4" seam allowance, you might cut them at 4 1/4", sew them together, cut apart and then square them up to the 3 1/2" squares you need. Or whatever size square you are making...Need 3" finished = cut at 4 1/4", sew, cut apart, square to 3 1/2"; need 4" finished = cut at 5 1/4", sew, cut apart, square to 4 1/2"; etc...
This does have some waste but if you are new to triangles, this gives you an accurate way to do them without all the frustration of them coming out crooked or too small..
    Just an opinion...

Just a small note: To all in these last couple swaps, I sincerely apologize for being so late in completing and mailing. I realize that the deadlines were set for a specific reason, and at the time I agreed to sign up, it seemed very do-able. There is no real excuse for falling behind, other than I allowed too many Life issues to take priority over me. Hopefully you all enjoy the ones I am sending out, as I have attempted to combine colors according to your wishes.
I do appreciate the ones I have received and have them intended to make a foot covering for the bed.
