Posted this as Kathy was starting the new thread - has nothing to do with going to Rita's but I wanted Terrye to see it :
"Terrye... I was working outside last night when I looked across the yard and thought I MUST be seeing things, but about a 100 yds away was the Kerria Japonica that you gave me and it has ONE single bloom on it. I was so excited I went to get the camera to take a picture of it... was going to post the pic last night but my internet was down AGAIN! I didn't expect it to bloom this year at all... "
And, no, I won't be able to go to Rita's,... that is prom day here AND District track meet! Not sure how we are going to swing both of those but I KNOW I can't go to Tennessee too! :) Have to be here to get pics ...all three kids are going to prom!!
Wish I could... maybe eventually I will have the chance to join in that venture.
Marilyn I drilled a few holes in the head then cut with my jigsaw. I bought the head last year and haven't seen any at our Hobby Lobby this year. Terry I hope you are able to find one somewhere because they are less expensive.
Terrye i am so sorry you broke your head pot but at least you have an intact face..
I don't know why they don't put holes in all planters that you are most likely to use outside. I had several I drilled holes into last year. They were all glazed on the outside and I thought they were pottery. Some turned out to be glazed clay. I just used a masonry bit and kept it wet. I managed to not break any of them. When I made my pot man, there were a couple of pots I needed to drill holes in on the side. I also used a masonry bit for that.
I went to Dabneys today and the Hostas looked great for those of you going there. I was doing good about not stopping by there because I knew when I did my my self control would be over. I ended up buying a few and could have kept buying, but managed to leave.
I did, but it did not do very well and I thought it was a goner...if it is not T. Rex, it must be Sagae, which I also lost last year, but I don't think it is. So, I will not be digging up yours again this year. LOL
Kenny bought two that I really want...Eye Declare and Eskimo Pie. I am certain that I will be able to find them on April 23 and/or April 24.
Hey Kim - when did Kenny get Eye Declare and Eskimo Pie ? Did he get those last year ?? Wow... you have a good memory.
I tell you, I had several that I thought I had lost last year and so far, every one of them have come up except 1 so far. I just knew those voles killed them when they had them for dinner. Hostas are incredibly hardy.
Ohh always the last to know hmmmm Sandra don't you know it's tacky to gossip like that about Kenny. I'm sure he is innocent . Just look into his sweet cherub face. Never trust a man that drives a red truck . Giggle
Caught you!! I have not left for Nashville yet. Back off, just back off. I don't owe an explanation. Anyway Kim started it last fall at the RU by giving 4 of something. LOL I am gone now and will check back Sunday night. Be nice or else we will discuss this in 2 weeks in person.
OH NO--I thought Kenny was gone to Nashville--QUICK--somebody tell me how I can blame this on Ruth, hurry help me think think think think----come on brain
There has to be a way we can put this off on her ????
Yes, we remember the 4 of something that Kim gave you--so to stay in good graces with Bonnie, you are going to blame Kim, and I am going to blame Ruth to stay in good with you, sounds like a plan to me
Someone spoke up for that male kiwi vine I have growing, but I can't remember who it was. Was it you bonnie? if not, someone let me know so I can put a name on it this time, Poor thing's going to get dumped if I keep forgetting to get a name tag on it.
I decided to look back at our trip last year and see if I could find a picture of the loot that I brought home last year...we are such a fun and funny group! If you would like to review, here ya go http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/980249/
Kim I loved reading that thread. Y'all are too funny. I missed it totally last year. I must have just had surgery.
Ruth sweetheart I've got your back and I won't let them mistreat you this year. Shame on those lowly peasants treating the Queen that way. I can't wait till next week. It is finally getting near time to pack up and go.
Do we know what time we are gonna all try to meet at Rita's yet ?
I don't recall the 2nd group of AR gals saying what time Sat. morning they are gonna leave and how long it will take them to get there - since they are doing a 1 day trip. I am sure those that are staying in Jackson on Friday nite will already be there whenever we get there.
And the Friday group is meeting at Dabney's at 11:00 on Friday?
LOL I thought the friday group was going to Homestead or meeting there, then coming to Dabneys, we'll see you guys at Dabneys , we'll try not to buy the place out before you get there. we'll probably be just arriving at 11:00.
open time at Rita's is 9:00 (I think) last year we started showing up at that time.
If any of you happen to see (at Dabney's or anywhere really) a Proven Winners supertunia called "Pretty Much Picasso," please get it for me...I promise to pay you back. I am not normally a petunia person but I adore this one!
LOL Now, we all want one. The main PR person from Proven Winners showed it to us 2 years ago...I think...and I have been waiting for it to arrive on the plant scene. We all hoped he would turn away so we could nab it or at least, give it as a door prize but NOOOOO ;o))
Sandra - since Dabney's is south of me, I thought the plan was to at least everybody be at Dabney's around 11:00 on Friday. It would be ridiculous for you to come all the way to my house then turn around and go back south to Dabney's. It don't matter to me, but I thought we were ending up at my house to eat. Kind of like a progression nursery hop. Start out South/Memphis and head toward north (since Jackson is the goal for Friday nite).
Kim - how long does it usually take for new intro's to hit the market ? Do you know ? Dabney's may actually have it this year. Their annual greenhouses are huge. If not, like Charlotte said - hopefully Rita will have it.
Sandra and Cindy, since we don't have to be at Dabney's until 11:00 how about leaving early enough to stop at the concrete store on Hwy 72? I keep meaning to go there and never seem to make it. We could leave your house, Sandra, around 8:30 and still have time plenty of time, I think. How long will it take to get to Dabney;s from your house?
Well, I need to tell you what you need to look for at the concrete place. Me and Kenny found this "sitting" monkey at a nursery in Little Rock when we went over to Kim's round up. They had it all over the nursery - but was very expensive (for me, anyway) - They had wigs, boas, etc on them. Very cute. Let us know if you see them there. We can't find them anywhere else.
Ohhhhh Melody... lol (we'll be your best-friend)
This guy is about the size of a 6 yr/o child. Sitting on a bench with it's legs crossed. Can't remember what his arms were doing. But really - he was big and I think they were asking like $254 or $354 for him. Something like that.
Maybe Charlotte or someone in Little Rock will chime in here that goes to that nursery and may have seen him.
Thats too funny Melody.
Oh no - this is a real looking chimp. Kim - I don't think the nursery was far from your house. Seems we went around in circles when we were trying to get home. lol. It was right on the edge of the road, if that helps any.
Kim, I called Dabney's and they do not have the petunia, they suggested to call
Bayless--I did and they have it, but I am not familiar with where they are, it might be more out of the way than you would want to go, here is their page.
Have you called Rita to see if she has it? http://www.baylessgreenhouse.com/directionscontactus.html
If Rita has it - let me know - otherwise, I will make a run out to Bayless and get us all some. They are wayyy out in the boonies. Usually not worth going to, except at Christmas for poinsettias. But who knows - maybe they have changed.
Bonnie, I don't want you to drive a long way to get a flower. I can always order one online. There are several nurseries on the side on the side of the road ;o) Would you recognize the name? Horticare? Burnetts? Flower Depot? BJs Plants and Produce?
Been following ya'lls thread ... enviously... but the monkey sounds so cute! Terrye where is the concrete place?? I know my sister drove all the way to some place in Mississippi to purchase a concrete pig bench... she never told me exactly where but said it was a LONG way there! :)
I would love to have a couple of concrete things for my gardens - but there is no one close to here that sells them anymore!
Kim that nursery had more road frontage then it was deep. I think it has a chain link fence running in front of where you would park along the road. Most of the concrete set off to the right as you entered. Other then that I think there was a red light and depending on how you where coming you would run right into it. It was on the other side of the expressway from you. Other then that we are of no help. I do know it was around $250 which seemed high.
This is not concrete - but it is a cute duck... and they have some others. They have some cute statues at this place - some really expensive and some much more reasonable... but then some are resin and some are bronze
Heard from Rita, she had it, sold out , more came in, ready in a week or so, I asked if they would be ready by next saturday, she also mentioned having another GEORGIOUS one, too that's a new variety. we'll see, Saturday. got to run.
Has anyone ordered from that NewGardenPlants that Ruth gave the link to the petunia?? They have several things I am interested in. I don't normally buy annuals - so not sure how their prices compare - plus I would have to pay freight ... but we just don't have a good source for annuals around here! I just wondered if anyone had used them and what type of plants they received.
So there are 2 unspoken for if marilyn wants those other two.
I also got plenty of the lime green nicotiana in 6 packs for 4.00 a 6 pack, if anybody wants me to divide and give you some of them, I got plenty. I think I bought 3 6 packs and I only need 4 or 5 plants.
here's a pic of them, they are blooming now, but will bloom again when they get taller, i've never seen them bloom this short. I think their good humming bird plants.
I figured marilyn may want to try one or two of these since she grows for the hummers and butterflies. anybody else going to rita's want to try one? their suppose to reseed, but my white ones haven't reseeded this year for me.
Now that gerber daisy isn't for sale LOL I just loved it, going to put it in the stacked pot arrangement. got a bunch of plants for some containers this year, maybe I won't over load the car at Rita's now, cause I'm think ing we're not going to have enough room, Danny's going to build me a shelf in the trunk so I can double up on the plant room ;0)
And if you want to see what else I got, you'll have to travel over to the chat forum where I'm goin g to post the rest of the photos. Just posted these here so I can bring them next week if you want them
KA, you don't owe me any money! I will pay for plants. Did the petunias come in 1 gallon pots? If they did, 3.75 is a wonderful price! But, I don't care if the came in a 1 teaspoon pot, I am thrilled to get them. Thank you so much!
LOL, in that case they came in teaspoon pots, he he. No their quart pots, and yes mam, I was going to buy you a plant anyways to pay you for those nugrapes, Cause after all, I made darren pay me HA!! i'm so bad,
I am planning on bringing something to Bonnie's too---my appetite !!! I have been wanting some good grilled stuff, but haven't felt like picking up a sack of charcoal yet this year. I can't wait for Paul's good cooking !
When ever you take us to your house bonnie. LOL what's after dabneys? any other little stops? we don't care when we eat, and we can leave it up in the air, and just help you do a little prep work to get dinner ready and we'll eat, when ever. we're an easy group.
so we can plan on going to your house after we know for sure all the nurseries are closed ha!!
Sounds like a plan to me. While everybody is outside walking around - I can just put stuff in the oven.
Menu (so far- I think)-- keeping it simple.
Smoked pork loin - with buns
cheesy grape salad
hashbrown pot. casserole
chips & dip
I had that big nicotina last year and it looks like it has come back. I thought it was an annual. It had huge leaves and was very tall. What has come back is in the same spot and has huge leaves so don't know what else it could be but nicotina.
Kathy Ann, I am just today reading about the supertunias and yes I do want them and I'll take a couple of the nicotiana, too, if you have any left. I hope you have a spot ready for those milkweeds we ordered from Donna because those little buggers are growing like, well, weeds--milkweeds, that is! LOL I was going to get mine in the ground today but I worked all day outside yesterday and I am pooped today so I had to have a day of rest. Tomorrow is supposed to be cooler, anyway--70F instead of 87F which the temperature sign at the high school said today!
I haven't got rid of any of the nicotiana, will put you down for 2 of them if you want more just say so.
I'm going to scatter them around the gardens out back, I have some orange milk weed in several spots from last year, and only one little teeny tiny one is coming back this year. I am so very disapointed about that.
I bought 4 new ones this year, their still in pots cause they were dormant when I got them but their showing green now so they'll go into the ground soon, I'll share them with you when they multiply. that one that the lady at that native nursery gave me, has not come up yet, it looked promising though when I pulled the dirt off it. i've been checking it daily
I am thinking I lost one of my big lantanas too. One has one green limb coming out of it and the other has no sign of life--do any of you have leaves on yours yet?
I also lost a lot of my pink verbena. I have had it for years and I remember the tag said hardy to 15 degrees---I think we hit below that a couple of times this past winter.
Thanks for the kind comments. I wanted to take a few from inside of the building but there were too many folks there. I had to stop every picture or two and wait for someone to take their pix and move along ;o)
Where did you find them ...Kathy Ann ? You are good , aren't you ?
Maybe Rita will have some more ready by next week ... I am thinking I would like to get a couple ,too ... I will take some of the green nicotiana , if you have any left ? For some reason , Mine did not come back ?? HUMMM
Me too!! I have actually taken pictures of my empty pots and printed them out. Now I'm going to write the measurements on the sheets. I've never done this before!!! I usually just go buy a bunch of stuff I like and when I get home start figuring out what I'm going to do with it.!!!
I got them in Batesville, and she will have more, I think i bought her out LOL she's got more at her gh but that's not on the property of the nursery.
I'll put you down for some green nicotiana, how many did you want Sharon?
I just lucked out with those petunias is all, I know riverside gardens has some specialty plants sometimes, cause the guy that works in the greenhouse there, is also here on DG and has been to my greenhouse before also. he likes odd things.
I don't know if you go through batesville or not Cindy, Maybe Sandra knows,
but when I go to batesville, you go down that really steep curvy mountain, it's the one where you have to go 35 or 40 LOL and you usually have to be towed up it in the icy winter months. after you godown that mountain, cross the river, and the nursery is the first stop light on the right, take that little road, and the first drive way on the right is Riverside gardens. There's 4 nurseries over there in batesville Tom thumb isn't a really good nursery though. River side and Plant life are the best over there.
Cindy, you go to Batesville MS--she is going to Batesville AR.
Batesville MS is where you get off 55 on to 6 to go to Pontotoc
We don't even have that little nursery in Ripley now, the new road going through there bought them out. I have to go to New Albany to find a nursery or Tupelo now.
I finished cleaning out in front of the house today and I am whooped !!
We did stop at The Dip and got a burger and rings. Also I found out that the 4 Seasons down the street from The Dip is owned by Homestead. We got 1 new ear and a few more mojitos since they where cheap.
Kenny or Bonnie, does Dabeys have water hyacinths? I got mine last year at Homestead.
The nurseries in Tupelo aren't carrying them anymore since Mississippi outlawed them, so I'll have to get mine out of state.
I liked that nursery in Hernando. It was small nut had a lot to choose from. If they are owned by Homestead, I guess that is why.
I'll get some for you, Charlotte, if we find any.
I may have to start wintering mine over if they are going to get hard to get. The man at the nursery told me the winter over very easy. I just hate to mess with them.
I will look at Jim's Water Hyacinths. I know he just took them out of the greenhouse a few days ago, but if they are looking good I will bring ya'll a start. If you try to overwinter they rot easy, but usully a few make it.
Sandra there is always a dealer behind someones addiction. The problem is I'm addicted to the same thing I am supplying.
Kim I got 1 hosta (Stripetease), variegated horse tail rush, coleus, ears
( Mojito, borneo giant, and Thai beauty?) and a few more things.
Well, forsure Jim won't be joining us Friday or Saturday, and possibly not Kenny. They had to take Jim to E.R. Sunday, and got called back in on Monday. At first, they told them he had stage 4 colon cancer, but this was my email from Kenny this morning (from last nite).
"Of course the Doc came in right when we all left, but dad is staying. He said he felt much better after talking to the Doc. Seems like they are leaning towards Colon Cancer, but not definite until tests are done. There is a small spot on the liver, but dad said the Doc did not make a big deal of it. Sounded like it is in the beginning stages maybe so we will see. Maybe a surgery. Will be in the there for a week maybe.
As you know unless things are different I may not be with ya'll this weekend."
Still does not sound good - but better than the initial news.
OH NO! Kenny, please tell Jim that we are thinking about him and keeping him in prayers. We will miss not seeing you but we know the hospital is where you need to be. We love both of you and will be mentally sending warm hugs.
So sorry to hear about Jim - but hope the news continues to improve. Don't know why the doctors sometimes seem to give the worst possible senario at the beginning. Sending prayers and hugs your way! Please keep us posted.
We are not worried about getting off subject here, we are still talking about our friends and I consider Lee one of our friends too.
I am sorry to hear that he is on the decline.
Bonnie you are so right-life is precious, and so are all of our friends. I made a post on both of our prayer threads and added a picture of Jim, I "borrowed" from Kenny's FB page.
Please keep us up to date on Jim when you hear anything.
Thanks... I just hadn't seen that name on our prayer list so I just wondered who we were talking about.
Friends are very precious... and I try to thank God daily for my DG friends! Feel like I have known a lot of you most of my life when in reality it has only been a couple of years! I will be praying for Jim and their friend Lee.
Hope as they do more tests that they hear more encouraging news.
I am so sorry to hear such dire news but doctors are human and can be very wrong. I will be praying that things are not as bad as seemed. Please tell Jim he will be missed. Kenny and Bonnie both of you are such wonderful loyal friends to Jim. I know that is a tremendous comfort to him. I am sure being in the hospital closed off from nature is a tough pill for him to swallow too. He is about the closest I have ever come to knowing a person who has found his niche in nature. In comparison to him we just play at it. God Bless him and keep him in comfort and peace of mind.
Kenny I hope you can join us for at least a meal. If not you will be missed too.
THANK YOU ALL. I have told him about ya'lls posts. Just got in and will be back in the morning for the colonoscopy which will tell them what is going on. We changed hospital's last night (Monday) and this place it Great. The Doc's have not even mentioned Stage 4. This was odd to us yesterday since they had not done anything other then a CAT scan. The Doc's nurse today said if anything she felt it would be Stage 1. They said they are not even sure what it is even though I feel like they are leaning towards some towards some type of cancer. They had a case like this last week and there was nothing wrong which was encouraging. The Doc came in before I left tonight and said his blood showed no cancer cells either which was also good news. So there is a chance he may be home tomorrow night, otherwise they will do surgery Thur or Fri. Depending how things go maybe I can see ya'll either Fri or Sat. Thanks.
Seems your blood would have to show some sort of cancer cells to have any kind of cancer. My mom had colon cancer. I'm hoping for no cancer at all Kenny. That no cancer cells to me would be AWESOME news!
Well like Bonnie mentioned it is a large mass blocking part of his intestines so that is what was causing the pain. The Doc said that there is no way to know much of anything else until they get in and look around. He said they would need to see if it was isolated or not. If so they will just remove it followed by Chemo. Otherwise they will just need to see what is going on in there and go from there. Surgery is possible Friday otherwise they will probably dismiss him over the weekend and bring him back in next week. For someone who has never seen a doctor before he is being an awesome patient.
The NWS has issued this about the weather this Friday night and Saturday. It doesn't sound good for our trip to Rita's. What is the forecast in the Jackson area?
...SEVERE WEATHER POSSIBLE FRIDAY AND FRIDAY NIGHT...THEN A MAJOR
SEVERE WEATHER OUTBREAK EXPECTED SATURDAY...
A COMPLEX WEATHER SITUATION IS UNFOLDING FOR FRIDAY AND SATURDAY.
A WARM...MOIST...AND UNSTABLE AIRMASS WILL OVERTAKE THE MIDSOUTH
FRIDAY AFTERNOON. THIS UNSTABLE AIRMASS IN COMBINATION WITH
STRENGTHENING WIND SHEAR COULD CAUSE SOME SEVERE STORMS TO DEVELOP
LATE FRIDAY AFTERNOON AND PERSIST THROUGH LATE FRIDAY EVENING.
THE UNCERTAINTY OF FRIDAY AND FRIDAY NIGHT HINGES ON WHETHER AN
UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE CAN TRIGGER THUNDERSTORMS. HOWEVER...ANY
THUNDERSTORM THAT MANAGES TO DEVELOP DURING THIS TIME HAS A GOOD
CHANCE OF BECOMING SEVERE WITH DAMAGING WINDS AND LARGE HAIL GIVEN
THE SEVERE THREAT INCREASES MARKEDLY SATURDAY AS A RAPIDLY
STRENGTHENING SURFACE LOW TRACKS FROM SOUTH TEXAS TO SOUTHERN
ILLINOIS. A MAJOR SEVERE WEATHER OUTBREAK IS LIKELY TO UNFOLD
BY LATE SATURDAY MORNING ACROSS MOST OF THE MIDSOUTH. THE BEST
CHANCE OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS SATURDAY WILL BE ALONG AND EAST OF
THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER. EVEN STRONGER WIND SHEAR AND A CONTINUATION
OF UNSTABLE CONDITIONS COULD PRODUCE TORNADOES...LARGE HAIL...AND
WIDESPREAD WIND DAMAGE WITH STORMS. FLASH FLOODING WILL ALSO BE
THE BEST WINDOW FOR SEVERE WEATHER WILL BE FROM 4 PM TO MIDNIGHT
FRIDAY...AND FROM 10 AM TO 7 PM SATURDAY.
OM , goodness!!!...90 % chance of rain and severe thunderstorms ... If I thought it was just going to be rain, we could shop with umbrellas at Rita's , plus all the GH are indoors ...but talk of wind shear, large hail, severe thunderstorms and tornadoes... that talk scares me .. and especially for folks driving a long way
Some folks are probably already on their way... Cindy from LA... I hate for us to change plans mid stream , but Max suggested Rita's on Friday.. to avoid the possibility of that bad weather and insuring folks can get back home before the nasty stuff starts up. What does everyone else think ?
I'm not a scaredy-cat when it comes to weather but it does pay to be cautious. It would be nice if everyone could go to Rita's on Friday but I know that Loretta, who is riding with Charlotte and me, could not go till Saturday--she has to work. It appears that once we get across the Mississippi River that the threat of the bad storms will lessen. The information above doesn't say that bad storms will develop, just that conditions may be very favorable for them to. Soooo, we will just have to stay tuned and see.
Kim and I are still coming on friday and saturday. we'll go to dabneys and we're going on to good winds, then to bonnies if she's still going to have us LOL and then to Rita's on Saturday. Last time I canceled out on a storm that storm was not nearly as bad as they predicted and I missed out on the opportunity. WE're just going to go and be careful on our drive.
Has anyone heard from Charlotte? I want to make certain that she is coming because she is giving a duck a ride home. lol Melody is bringing me one. If there is any chance that she is not coming, I need to tell Melody's MIL not to send it.
Yes I'm here!! Been gone all day! I'm the driver so definitely plan on going! I have a list started and the pictures of my pots! We will just need to watch the weather. If it gets too bad while we are driving, can always pull over and take a potty break for a little bit.
Charlotte - I will dmail you my phone #'s in case you get caught in Memphis area then you can do a pit-stop at my house until it blows over if you have to...
... and yes KA - it is still on for tomorrow. Have talked to Ruth - she and Lamar are coming straight to my house, but I think Sandra's crew is meeting ya'll at Dabney's last I heard. KA and Kim - do ya'll still have my phone #'s ?
Jim's surgery is tomorrow. Lets all pray and hope that the cancer hasn't spread and that they can get it all.
Our local weather guy just said that we will have a possibility of thunderstorms late tomorrow afternoon on through to midnight and then they will clear on out for a little while. Saturday morning should be okay but the storms are coming back into eastern Arkansas on Saturday afternoon. I'm going to check the forecast for Jackson, TN and see what the NWS is saying about their weather.
I just checked and Jackson's forecast is virtually the same as ours. This storm will be stretching across a good portion of the south. This front is now over the plains states and is moving to the east. I am going to keep an eye on things and make my decision on Friday night. I think we might have a "window" of fairly calm weather on Saturday morning but they are predicting that it will come back in again around noon on Saturday for eastern Arkansas and also for western Tennessee which would not be good for our return trip home. I'm not going on this trip to buy plants, anyway, so I may choose to opt out and just see everyone at Jeri's. I'll let you know early tomorrow night, Charlotte, if I decide not to go. I also hope Loretta is reading these posts because she is supposed to come to my house on Saturday morning around 6 a.m.
I've been busy all day trying to make some money to spend on plants!!! Then right after I got home I had to work with the sprinkler man. My next door neighbor had a problem and had called them and I had told him to send them over to my house when they finished with his. I had a broken head and wanted some minor tuneups to several areas. I had a spot in the back that wasn't getting any water and I wanted him to change out the type head and adjust several other heads. All set now!!!
I went out tonight and measured all my pots and made a list of others I didn't take pictures of. Have phone numbers. Have a list of some plants I'm interested in. Have made myself a note for some things I need to take. Have address of Randolphs and I have printed out directions. Think I'm set!!! Hopefully the weather want be too bad.
I hope that ya'll have a safe trip. I know you will have lots of fun, and I hope the weather cooperates with you! Here they have changed the start time of the conference track meet to 1:00 p.m. instead of 10:00 a.m.!! They rescheduled trying to work around the predicted weather - but that change wiped both girls out of attending the track meet since the prom is that evening. Conference is about 1.5 hrs away! With hair appts at 2:45 - there was NO WAY... Kyle is still planning to go but he will only be able to pole vault - he will not be able to wait and compete in 300m hurdles because he wouldn't make prom! I hate that because he placed 3rd in state last year as a sophomore ... but maybe next year!
I kinda laughed when I read Marilyn's forecast that she posted since it says the storms will be starting back up around noon ... considering they moved the start time to 1... sure hope they don't have to postpone it to an even later time...
Sure hope at least that it is out of this area by prom walk in - it was POURING last year for prom and it was awful !!
Ya'll have lots of fun - and buy some plants in my honor since I can't attend. Eventually I AM going to get to Rita's!
Be safe - and be sure to post pics to rub it in when you get back!
Well, I'm going to beg out of this trip.
The weather just isn't looking like it will co-operate and I know my husband would worry about me all day.
What I would like to do is invite everyone up here sometime in June. We'd do a day of activities and have a big time. Bluegrass Gardens Daylilies is less than 20 miles from my house and it is gorgeous in June.
I'm really sorry to miss this one, but I think it is best for me to stick closer to home tomorrow.
Just checking in and making sure you other Little Rock gals are still coming. Marilyn -- are you coming ??? We know Charlotte will be coming with Loretta at least, huh ? We are all still at my house and having a ball. Wish you were all here. The new DG member - Westtngal even came and visited. Can't wait for everyone else to meet her.
Still planning on coming. Loretta and my friend Sarah will be with me. Hopefully Marilyn will decided to go. She hasn't made her final decision. She said she would let me know in the morning. Don't buy everything before we get there!!!
They are saying now that they think MOST of tomorrow will be fairly clear ... another round of Tstorms going thru this area now, but it has been clear here for the past 6 hrs or more... Hope this is the last round for tonight. Kyle is on the way home from his girlfriend's house and it is hailing on him!!!
OMG -- 2 days of "friend-fun" --- I am overwhelmed.
If you didn't come - you really missed out on it. I am sooo afraid we don't have any pictures, because I think the only one that even took time to take pictures was Cindy, and I don't recall her having her camera out much.
Hope everyone makes it home safely !
p.s. - when traveling thru Memphis to get to Hernando - we liked to have lost KA & Kim in the rains. It was horrible !
I am home. I had a super time, Bonnie you are a special lady to take such good care of us Friday. You fixed a fabulous meal . I don't know what we'd do without you in our lives.
We had a great time visiting. Missed most of the rains, Except that semi truck that dumped a swimming pool of water onto my car on the high way. I think I aged l0 years then.
On the way home I swirved to miss a turtle in the road, he lived, mixed nuts flew all over the car.
When I got home, I find that the hot water heater broke and Danny spent all day today sucking water out of the carpet in the hall way and we have no hot water till monday. He rearranged my bedroom/sewing area, and WOW, That man can organize. He needs to do the rest of the house too. Since I don't seem to have the time or desire to .
I'm thinking Kim forgot some of her plants in the car cause there's an aweful lot out there still, I hope I didn't buy all those ha!
We had some valuable needed rain here , things seemed to have grown a foot while I was gone. got a chance to look a t the back yard before I went in.
yes for those that didn't come, You missed a fabulous time. We went down to homestead after Rita's instead of eating at our usual place, that place was huge. Had some rain at Rita's but it didn't last long and we drove through some bad rains on the way to homestead, but it didn't last too long either. So we missed the major stuff all together, and we've been blessed today by just that alone.
I had a great time visiting with Everybody. Best group of friends a person can have are all right here!
So glad you posted that you are both at home. Did Charlotte follow you ? Hope they made it ok too.
You are too kind with what you say. It all goes both ways, you know. Kim and I talked about how wonderful our friendships are.
I just got back about 20 minutes ago from meeting Loretta at Wendy's to pick up the plants Kathy Ann sent me. Thanks so much, Kathy Ann! and thank you, Loretta, for bringing the plants to me. I will do my best to get them all planted tomorrow afternoon. Kathy Ann, we will make arrangements for me to get your milkweed and other plants to you one day this next week. If you will let me know when you are going to be in Searcy, I can bring the plants to you there. Just let me know. Loretta said you all had a good time. I'm glad, and hopefully I will be able to make it next year. In any case I am looking forward to seeing everyone at Jeri's in May!
I just got home. Unloaded my wonderful haul...plants and other goodies.
Bonnie, you and Paul showed us such a magnificent time! The food was out of this world! You both are super-duper people. OH WAIT! I forgot to bring home my new dog...oh well, I will get Milla next trip.
I feel like the luckiest person on earth. Mostly because all of you make me laugh so hard my sides hurt! I love you all just like my family...even more than some of my family. LOL Thank you all for celebrating with me!
I got all kinds of gifts for my b-day and Bonnie had balloons lining the driveway, I felt so loved. Even had a birthday cake with "happy birthday duckmother" on it. I know Ruth and Lamar really enjoyed the other cake ;o) We missed y'all...as we did the rest of you that did not make it. Bonnie, I am going to open basket as soon as I send this! Cindy, I cannot wait to wear the gloves...maybe tomorrow. Sharon, please tell MIL how much we enjoyed having her company...she is a hoot. Charlotte, please tell Sara the same, and to join us at the next RU. Christy, you come too! Kenny, thanks for EEs! I am so glad that we got to spend a little time with you...please give Jim my love. KA, thanks for driving and the present. I had such a great time with you. We shop very well together ;o) Take good care of that mother fern! hahaha I am so glad the little box turtle survived, even if the nuts didn't. I hope tomorrow is fairly warm and maybe the shower will not be too cold. Please tell Danny that when he has finished organizing your home, to head over here and organize mine!
I will take a picture of all the great things that I acquired from friends, nurseries and the pottery store (I could have stayed in there for hours!).
Loretta, let us know when you get home...you have pretty far drive. Cindy, you be careful driving home, too.
As always, it was so nice seeing everyone and power nursery shopping with you! Lets do it again...
I'm home!! I had to fix DH a quick sandwich and then I unloaded my truck!! Ran through grabbing stuff in such a hurry , just had to see what I bought. I found some really neat stuff!!! So much fun seeing everyone!!!! Bonnie thanks for taking us down to Homestead it was worth the mad dash through Memphis ! Boy was I glad I was following you. I didn't have a clue where we were. I told Sarah and Loretta that if I had to get out of there myself I would have to stop and ask for help because I was totally lost!!
Sarah really had a great time too! She kept saying "I love it, I love it!" It was wonderful seeing everyone and am looking forward to being able to spend more time visiting when we go to Jeri's. You all are a wonderful bunch of folks!!!!
I am so glad you all had a great time and didn't get into the bad weather!!!! I was thinking about all of you yesterday being out there and I think I would have chickened out even if I hadn't had the conference. Put tornadoes in and I'm pretty much out!
Glad you had a great birthday cake Kim! Awesome!!
You all look so ready to shop! I can't wait to see more pics!
I got home from Sandra's about 8:30 tonight. I have been washing clothes and watering plants for hours. That's not touching the plants that are in the car. from this trip. 4 days away makes for a lot of work when you get home. It is worth it. I enjoyed every minute away.
Sandra and Jerry always make me feel right at home. She is not doing to well right now so y'all remember her in prayer. The three days of nursery hopping was just too much for her back.
Bonnie everytime I think back to that first seed swap at Terrye's that I sat down next to you , Sandra, and Ruth. I give thanks. You have been wonderful friends to me. I could never thank you enough. You and Paul were very gracious to open up your home to this crazy bunch. The laughter and love we share is the best medicine for our souls. I always look forward to the laughter almost as much as the FOOD. Paul outdid himself on that tenderloin. Your grape salad was wonderful.
All of you who could not be with us , you were missed. Maybe sometime tomorrow I can convert my pictures so you can see Bonnie's beautiful yard. I am off to bed kinda tired . Cindy
At 12:41 am I bet you are tired!!! So glad you made it home safely. Sorry to hear Sandra is not doing well, but thanks for letting us know that. Sorry I didn't get a chance to visit more on this trip, but I'm looking forward to Jeri's RU and spending some time with you before hand. This is a laughing group, and laughter is so great for the body and soul!!! I got some pots finished yesterday and have all my plants sitting in the bed where I want them and now I've got to go out and get them actually in the ground.
We need to start a new thread of all the things we purchased, rec'd and our pots we made up... Charlotte, when you get a chance - why don't you show us yours ? ...
Paul and I sat in front of our window this morning drinking our coffee, worrying about Sandra. I sure hope she gets some relief. Maybe just sitting on her kahunkus will do her some good for a few days.
So glad you made it home Cindy. Everytime I thought about asking you when you were planning on heading home... I apparently went in another direction. I sure hope you get some rest before you get out there. I spent the day with Kenny and Jim yesterday - so I got me some-more "friend" fix. Was sooo good to see Jim. They are putting him on soft foods now, so hopefully pretty soon - he will be able to regain some of his strength.
Everything you have all said about our visit was so kind. I sincerely enjoyed every minute of it. Just wish EVERYBODY could have had the fun that we all share.
Have enjoyed reading everyone's posts about the fun trip and all the plants - can't wait to see pics. Am thankful that everyone made it home safe and sound. So sorry to hear that Sandra is suffering now - feel better soon Sandra!!
Bonnie - whats going on with Jim - only thing I saw was that he was in the hospital and they had discovered cancer, but nothing after that. So happy to hear that he is out of the hospital and was able to visit with you.
Hey Em. Well, Jim isn't out of the hospital yet. Guess maybe I should start a thread about his situation, but was hoping Kenny would have time sooner or later to do it. I am hoping he can come home by the weekend. I think they are waiting for the results of his lymph nodes. Don't know what they will do next, except wait for him to recover well enough to start his chemo.
By the way the 3 clay pots in the background did not come from the shopping trip!! They contain hibiscus "sticks" from some plants I bought last year. I kept them in a heated room that never went below 40 degrees but they look pretty dead to me. Just leaving them there for a few weeks to see if anything happens, ha ha
This is what I did with my Rita's Gold fern. The green fern I just dug out of the yard. I am going to try to get creeping jenny to grow draping over the coco mat stuff. You can see a little bit of it now. I probably need to add some more.
I hearing out to plant!
Very nice, Charlotte! Your potted plants are looking good now and will be even prettier as they grow and fill out. Don't give up on your hibiscus. I had two that Kathy Ann gave me which I thought were dead and they are now both putting out green leaves. Some plants are just later in coming back in the spring.
I would be outside planting the plants that Kathy Ann sent me but mine and Charlotte's trays accidentally got mixed up--she has mine and I have hers--so I will have to wait until we can meet and exchange trays! LOL
I'm so sorry that Sandra's back is giving her so much trouble. She will continue to be on my prayer list every night. Feel better soon, Sandra!
I just talked to Sandra and her internet is down. I got worried after she hadn't posted since the trip. Especially since I knew she wasn't feeling well.
She is doing okay but taking it easy. This trip was rough on her back.
Charlotte, your pots look great! Rita's Gold is always an eye-catcher.
I got my annual in pots and in the ground but my perennials are still in the pots. Got to work on them today after work. My problem was after I got everything unloaded and went to pot things up , I forgot which ones I had picked out to go together. lol So my arrangements wound up looking different than I planned.
Wow Charlotte - you have been a busy bee. Great job on the pots. It will be good later to look back on how the pots started and how they look in a couple months, maybe a couple weeks even. You got alot - and some of those plants, I never saw them at either place. Funny - I am sure I could go back today and see different things than what I saw the other day.
Marilyn these are tropical hibiscus not the hardy ones so I'm afraid they are probably goners but I'm gona wait a while and see if a miracle happens. I will try to trade trays with you today. Maybe this afternoon, if you are going to be at home. Will give you a call.
Glad to see you're all right Ruth...from the radar, it looked pretty scary over near you.
I hated to miss the trip, but felt that I shouldn't be out on the roads. There was some damage reported between my house and Jackson on the road I would have taken. We had 2 big storms come through here, but other than a barn being struck by lightning (and burning,) limbs down and shutters blown off seemed to be the worst damage.
When we got out of the car, I saw Rita's DH just shaking his head like we were all "nuts" for coming. lol.
He said "welcome to Rita's river" !! Most everybody just rolled their pants up and waded thru the puddles.
Yeah, one of the ladies working there said, "I am sorry the weather is so bad for y'alls visit." I said, "Oh well, we cannot plant in it, so you might as well shop in it!" She told me I was a true gardener. lol
When on the way home I was in Yazoo County and could not believe the destruction of the trees both sides of 55 north. I real big twister went through there. This picture is not real clear but it shows the twister just before it took out the plant in Tallulah La. I did not take the picture don't know who did. I drove through there after the storm too.
That tornado picture is incredible!!
So glad you all took pictures of the containers. I was whizzing through so fast I didn't see any of those containers!!
Bonnie your gardens are beautiful. I love the old wrought iron fence pieces and love your pot man sitting up in the tree!! Wish I could have seen it this time. But will have to make another trip by to see everything.
He is wore out. It will take a few days to get over just laying in a bed for over a week. Him and Kim are staying here. She will go home Thur. for awhile. He is already wanting to go play in his yard so I am sure Kim will take him tomorrow to walk around and see what's blooming.
Terry we missed you and Melody both this time, but we did not stay and eat--since we were all going back towards MS we went on to Homestead and had some of those good and greasy onion rings at the Velvet Cream in Hernando
Good news on them thinking they got it all... and stage 2 sounds much better than what they were first saying! Will just keep praying for healing and good test results...
Sandra... those onion rings sure sounds good about now!
Kathy Ann and Marilyn... was wondering what ya'll were having for supper as we came back by last night! Kyle and I had to change a flat just a few miles after getting on the interstate heading home and delayed us by close to an hour. Made us hungry too! :)
LOL... well, that probably would not have filled us up! :) We had a PB&J for lunch because we were trying to get on the road... so by the time he vaulted for 1.5 hrs and changed a flat... he said he deserved a good supper! Thank goodness he was with me... with my knee messed up, I would have had a REALLY difficult time getting to my spare!
Cindy that tornado pic is great. Every year me and my sister talk about going out to the Mid West for a tornado chasing vacation. but never do.
Sandra I was talking tonight about those onion rings to someone wishing I had some.
Here is a pic of Jim and his daughter this evening at the park. He doing GREAT. I am having to hold him back so he does not over do it.
