Calling all "judges" for the annual DG County Fair! Vote for your favorites here!

Not an April Fools joke. Just a crazy newbie on the loose.

Windsor, CA(Zone 9b)

You may want to read my earlier post subject "3 years old" before continuing. I hope that you have a sense of humor. I posted it 4.5.10 and the last post was 4.6.10.
The color of the flowers on the earlier post, in my memory, is amazingly close to the Peony blossom. Some one asked about the dark center in the flowers. I even responded that my memory said the staymens (if that is what they are called where yellow, or yellow and white. CLUE #1. And I said I thought it strange that the largest bud on the oldest section of the Peony hadn't blossomed yet. CLUE #2.
This morning I tore into the Peony only to discover that the previously pictured blossoms are not from the Peony at all, but from a Ranunculus (?) growing up and through the Peony. And then I noticed the new buds which are not at all buds of a Peony.
So my foolish conclusion is that I was wrong all along and the Peony has not blossomed, but when it does I think it will be a similar color to those earlier pics.

I thought it was really funny to, but I have probably ruffled a few feathers (not the first time on DG or in life for that matter!) Xuling

Dang. Here I was hoping you had a mutation that could add a different color to the center. Boy, now I know I need glasses.

My eye doctor has wanted to see me for 6 months, now I too know that I had better schedule an appointment!!. Xuling

Xuling - that is so funny. The red ranunculus here in my yard that looks a little like your "mutated" peony LoL. I would love a peony of this red color though.

And just like peonies, ranunculuses come in all shapes (singles, doubles, ruffles) and colors. I picked this bunch today.

Your clumps are a lot fuller than mines. They are very happy in your yard - beautiful.

I'm so jealous, can not get those poppies to grow for the life of me.

Kansas City, MO

Not a poppy but a poppy look ranunculuse? that does not grow for me either. I think the voles like them too well as I have never seen any foliage.

Stamford, CT(Zone 6b)

I could not get ranunculus to even grow for me. I'll try again by soaking them first, but it may just be a function of of geography. They certainly are gorgeous. The buds are furry and sort of shaped like poppies, so I can understand the confusion.l

I'll never remember that name... ranunculus.

I looked it up, generic name is buttercup? The buttercup we knew growing up were weeds. These are just beautiful and they looks sooo much like poppies!

Hola, OK you all ready for this?? Will the real Peony please stand up!! The big Peony flower bud is starting to open. So I will be posting pics of it as it does. And I do think that it will look somewhat like the ranunculus in color. Well we will find out anyway
