I have not had a chance to list what I have or want. My home computer is in the 'hospital' having a virus cleaned off. I will try to make a list of what I have this evening and get it here somewhere. Maybe I can use my lunch hour today at work while I have access to a computer and put some on my have list. There won't be photos, but the names will be there!

Thanks!

My trade list isn't up to date. I had some winter loses and need to remove what I no longer have and add others. A time consuming task. Though all aren't available, I have a list of everything I grow in my journal. http://davesgarden.com/tools/journal/viewbycat.php?cat=56528

I like old fashioned forms from the 60's and 70's, UF's and spider forms. Selfs. Also love hose and hose doubles. I collect Allen and Gene Wild daylilies from the 60's, 70's and 80's. Love really big flowers, yellow flowers, really any colors. Just thought I'd mention yellow because so many people don't like too much yellow, but I can never have too many yellow flowers. LOL

Somebody D-mailed me last year when my Tradelist was enabled and I'd added notes to many plants that said "not ready to divide" or "new this year" and since I was a new member at the time, that person politely reminded me that a Tradelist is specifically for plants ready to be traded and others that aren't should be kept in the Journal or disabled.

Here's my earlier post too:
"Just wanted to give a head's up to whomever picks me since my 'haves' list is currently disabled. Click on my name, then scroll down to the pics I've posted. Some of the D/Ls pics I took at a local farm but am growing many in my gardens. That's a roundabout way, but you'll get the idea."

fotv, I did the same thing with the Tradelist, I had about a million people email right after I setup the plants. Some were not so kind when I explained...oh well...I didn't know so many people watched that, I thought plant trading was on the forum plant tranding...LOL

We had hail and rain last night, lots and lots...yuck. Nothing look worse the wear which I am glad. DH left the window down on the dog hauler...a 1995 geo metro that is a mess with dog hair...rain probably improved it...rofl...only problem it won't start now.

Ticks are horrible out in the woods. When it is rainy and warm ticks are horrible, as soon as the rain stops they disappear, don't know where they go but am glad they go there...yuck.

Guess I will pot up things in the garden room and pull weeds, they should come out easy as wet as it is.

Never fear-I also didn't want to enable all of my trade list and be showered with d-mails for trades. I do however have over 350 named daylilies (sticking my tongue out at all of you who didn't want to pick me) so if you would give me an idea of what you would like then I am sure that I can make you happy!
Here is a link to my daylilies-all are not big enough to trade but you can get an idea maybe---Janie

I don't do much trading, so my list is usually outdated. But I try to add every new plant I get into my journal. I also use the Plantstep flower program, but haven't posted my daylily list on their site yet.

I DIDN"T Put up this swap to match as to HOW Many Daylilies anyone has OR Dose not have All I was Hopping for was to Share & Hope That maybe we all might find a few pretties we Don';t have , if I get anything I have already well I will still be thank full & Give it a good home .

My Most exspensive ones are a few of the Kinnebrew collections I'm not asking that you share your exspensive
DL But I'm Sure we all can find some really nice rebloomers or spiders , dbls that will brighten our partners
garden RIGHT???

as for the list it was to try not to send ones you might have . Not So your Partner can pick & Choose . & There is no need to unlock any journals , if you do not wish .

It was to be rainy this weekend had a little rain during the night & Nothing yet allday but it is much to cool to be out side do have to go after the mail , I got the floors swept & Mopped , laundry done, & I Made daddy some Beans& Bacon soup , Made a loaf of bread , now going to go into get groceries , then i can relax for the day :)))

Does anybody here already have scapes or blooms? I check every day and only have healthy strapping leaves so far.

joy and janie, I would love to see your gardens. I have alot of daylilies, except alot of them are noid, I had a friend who had a friend who was a collector. So the collector gives my friend all these daylilies, tagged with names and the such. My friend (not a true gardener or collector) throws the tags away and plants them in this little tiny area between two concrete walks...I lucked out in that she needed them thinned and I gladly thinned them...LOL Since then I have been buying and adding to my collections but keeping the tags, rofl and of course have gotten wonderful daylilies from the swaps on DG... It is amazing how many different daylilies there are... I was reading today about starting from seed which really sounds like fun, except that I am not very patient...

fotv, just big green leaves so far for me...they seem to love all this water...speaking of did you guys know you can grow them in water gardens? I just think that is so cool...

I have scapes on a few real earlies, but it's extra early this year as I don't usually get scapes on anything until late May here. Orangeman looks like it could open anyday. I've never had daylilies this early but spring started early here this year too.

I have a lot of un-named daylilies that I'll always grow name or not. When I first started gardening I didn't save the tags either. Once I got the internet and learned about trading, I learned the value of keeping the tags. LOL

Oh, Starting them from seed is even more fun. I haven't actually crossed any myself YET! But I bought a bunch of seeds on the LA and collected seeds the bees made. I started them three winters ago under lights and a few bloomed last year. The rest are looking like I'll get blooms this year. I'm so excited. There's nothing like seeing one of your seedlings bloom for the first time. You just don't know what you'll get. If you like surprises you will love growing them from seed.

Here's one of my very first seedlings that bloomed last year. I think this was one of the prettiest. I had a couple that were real dogs though. LOL

She's a beauty, Joy! Good for you and I hope you have more seedling that bloom this year. Our local daylily farm is simply stunning around July 4th when I took this pic last year. Man it was hot and was utterly impossible to capture all her fields in a single pic so here's a sampling.

I've never made crosses either but may try that this Summer. This is my first year growing D/L's from seeds, most of them came from DGer's. It's amazing to see seedlings 4-6" tall that are only 8 weeks old. I planted them when we still had snow so they've got to be tough. It'll be so exciting to eventually see their blooms...even if it does take them two or three years.

Very pretty color Joy...It would be fun to do your own crosses, what makes a daylily a dog, was it an ugly color? Did you take a picture I wanna see? How interesting. Gosh that is a long time to wait to see what they look like...I might burst before that happened.

fotv, I bet that place is beautiful. Glad it isn't close to me...I have enough problems...LOL

Channel 19 has a great blue grass band on there. Every year out in Winfield KS they have a big blue grass festival and when I was younger and single I went a couple of times wihuge group of friends and it was just great. Bands played all day and half the night, then around the camp area every few feet it seemed there was a small get together of people playing. Not to big on country music but love blue grass.

FOTV, That's so pretty, all those daylilies blooming at once. I went to my first daylily farm last summer. I was just so excited to be there. I'm planning on visiting another this year. To see some of the daylilies I've only seen on the internet, in person is really quite a treat. So many look even better live! I see my own gardens but it was really fun to see some one else's and see the daylilies they grow. And the best part was getting to talk daylilies with someone with the same passion. I have to talk to myself or my plants here. No one else wants to here about it around here. LOL

Happ, Some places get blooms in the first year. 3 years is pretty standard where I live, I've learned. It's just different everywhere. It would have seemed like a very long wait but I have plenty of plants to care for and it helped me get through it. I was just very happy to get a few blooms in 2 year old seedlings after learning that 3 years was a normal wait here.

I tried to find some pictures of the dogs. I know I took pictures of them. I just must not have named the files so I'll have to look for the them the long hard way, by looking in each file. I'll try to find them though.

I know what you mean about bluegrass music, especially live! I really enjoy it too, My DH is a musician and plays blues music with a band. They've played many blues festivals and those are always a good time too.

Spring is here! Isn't everyone excited? I know I am because I can get out in my garden again. Gardening is what keeps me sane in this crazy fast-paced world

Teresa - love the shot! All those blooms and the spider in the foreground- wow!

FOTV - daylilies are ahead of schedule in Northern KY - I already have scapes on Spider woman's kiss, one of the candies down in the school bed and a seedling.

Bubbeez - I have looked at your want list and have a few in mind to send you. It is too time consuming to put all my daylilies on trade list so here is what I have up loaded to Plant step. http://www.plantstep.com/FlowerCatalog.psl?action=10247&Page=1&Date=04/25/10
Many are not available but if you see something you like, it never hurts to ask me if I have enough to share :)

Love those daylilies, and love those spiders in your picture! My first spider I bought on shear accident, it wasn't blooming and I got it cheap at the end of the summer so I didn't know what it looked like, when it bloomed the next year I was blown away...that really got me going!

Happ, I live near the birthplace of Bill Monroe. Father of bluegrass music. I love modern country myself, but the bluegrass state is KY's nickname, like the buckeye state for Ohio.

Cathy, I love that comment I am or was into hosta. I can relate :)

We have had a nice but blustery day here. After church and lunch I pulled a few weeds, planted a fern and hosta. I also planted a few dl seeds today that I had won on the LA from Daylily Squire and Lighthouse Gal. Some were Faulkner seedling crosses. Today is my 30th anniversary so if any are keepers, I can remember when I planted them.

I have gotten daylilies cut back and some not, I the ones that are not cut back DO rebound much faster. I was upset when I got them and the lady told me just plant them and you'll see that they will rebound faster, well she was right. So now when I buy from her she nevers cuts them back, looks a heck of alot better too . I have gotten from a few on the LA this year that did not trim and some were a bit on the long side.
I would only cut back for shipping reasons, to fit iin a box if they are huge. I think that is probably how the trimming began. But you can do it either way, whatever tickles your fancy, floats your boat. Ya get the idea?

I agree that trimming them just enough to fit in the box is best on the plant. I've gotten a lot of daylily mail order plants in the last three years, and the ones that bounced back the fastest were the ones that were trimmed the least.

I end up trimming them a bit after I receive them anyway. They can get a bit droopy.
I guess I should restate what I said earlier. I've received plants that were cut within 2 to 3 inches above the crown. These were the plants that were slower to bounce back. Cutting the foliage to about 6" of the crown is fine. I've just had better results with the plants that weren't cut back too much.

Joy, Those are the ones I was referring to also, they had No real leaves on them. They take awhile to bounce back. If mine are like they rae getting now basically fully grown I will have to trim a little off to fit them in the box so the foliage does not get all broke up in transit. But in early April you can just lift and ship as they are not wild yet with growth. Mine are getting pretty darn big, got a scape on Kiss My Grits!!!! Happy bout that!

It's been so wet here that I haven't been able to check my plants for about a week. Might be able to do that in the next day or so. We're getting some sun breaks between the down pours today. Maybe I can sneak out there today? Maybe I'll find more scapes? :-) They sure are getting big and green with all this rain though. Everything is just huge.

Joy with all the rain have you found any of the daylilies turning mushy when you dig them to move ??? I have found
many of mine doing that not sure but almost think that the mulch around them keeps them to wet , for the daylilies with no mulch are much largers & not mushy . so now I'm going to clear all the mulch away from them a bit

has anyone else been haven that problem ???

Deejay, I had that problem over the winter, especially this year. When it got cold (we had record lows for 10 days) many of them went deeper into the soil. Some completely rotted away before I figured out what had happened. I plant daylilies with the crowns pretty high here because lots of rain is our normal. So the ones that don't have their crowns too low do fine in a lot of rain. I don't mulch them here in the winter because mulching them then, is inviting rot. But that's just here. I know that it's not the same everywhere and much of the country really does need to mulch in the winter.

mrsspeedsgarden don't worry about it, I understand completely, in zone5a it is cold and wet, big problem is the rain, it has been constant and can't dig in the clay cause it turns into concrete and will slow down my growth the rest of the summer. Storms yesterday, storms this morning, suppose to hit 80 and storms this evening...then back down in the 60's...and more rain...geeezzzz

Ok, bad storms last night. Our Master Gardener meeting was in a greenhouse on top of a hill. Not what I thought was the best, but when we first started no storms, then right after the meeting I could hear thunder in the distance. I have great respect for lightening, due to a distant encounter. I told Bill, that I thought I was going to leave he smiled and said yeah he was going to need to run the others off. He said it is a little unnerving in the greenhouse during a thunderstorm...well sometime during the night, they heard horrible winds inside their house and headed for the basement, he said before they got to the basement it was over, and so were trees and the greenhouse! It was horrible last night with lightening and rain...I feel really bad for them. They are really nice people and they go around to the city markets. I didn't see the news this morning, so I don't know first hand how much damage they got. When I left for work it was dark, but I don't think we had any damage, unless some of my plants got blown over...tons of rain again, with flash floods!

I'm glad they came earlier than we thought too, Joy, since I left around 9 this morning and didn't get home til 5. So glad I was able to plant them yesterday after a good soaking and now they're getting a drink of fresh rain. You really did great...Thank You so much again.

MY Fault I Should Have explained better This was a Mail swap But if the weather was Bad or your Daylilies were not UP & ready for shippment then a later shipping would be fine , But I didn't want to go any longer then June 25th ,

but Not to wait till June 25th to mail . when I OPEN ANY SWAPS IT IS FOR THAT MONTH & & Plenty of time
to send to your PARTNER. I Do Hope all BOXES Can Go OUT Soon .

THANK YOU

Well I had no intention of waiting until June 25th to mail. Memorial Day weekend just seemed okay to me the way the swap was worded.
Also-"when I OPEN ANY SWAPS IT IS FOR THAT MONTH & & Plenty of time
to send to your PARTNER. I Do Hope all BOXES Can Go OUT Soon ."
Well this swap opened up in FEBRUARY! Maybe you do so many swaps-dejay9- you forget what you say from one to another but I REALLY don't appreciate your attitude toward me neither here nor in the d-mail you sent me! I don't feel like I did anything to warrant your semi-masked hostility.
BISA80-your box will be in the mail on Tuesday and I apologize if you were expecting it sooner. I think you will be pleased :)

Finally finished working on most of my pics. I took about 200 on vacation and another 100 or so since we've been home.

Here's another cool one you shared with me, Joy. PURPLE WATERS

I'm so furious with the deer that nipped off almost all the buds in my small Spider garden. In the regular beds, they ate every bloom off Barbara Mitchell, one of my fav's, and several others right down to nubs :-( Time to make another sticky batch so hubby doesn't have to stand guard. We really need a new outside dog.

Depends on when you decide to do this. Planting in September sometimes causes them to be heaved out during the winter. I could probably just pot them up until next spring. I'll see where I am with the yard work a little closer to the swap.

Irisluvr, I tried something new here in zone 5 last winter. I planted everything in the nursery pots and then some I just planted in the garden in the pot up past the rim of the pot a little and put mulch over the top and they did just fine and didn't heave or anything. Then in the spring I dug up pots. I did a bunch like that and didn't lose a one. Then some others I made a fort per say with bags of mulch. I put 3 rows high of bags of mulch in a square making the sides long enough, it left the center open and I stuck pots of plants in the center and then dumped mulch on top of all of the potted plants. Someone told me just to make sure where I built it, that it stayed shaded so it wouldn't warm and freeze. So I put it in an area of complete shade and everything came back with flying colors. I had daylilies, lilies, butterfly bush, hostas, just all kinds of perennials and we had a horrible winter.

I do need to explain the reason I had so many left over is I kept running into sales of perennials way late in the fall and I couldn't pass them up. Gosh some were like a dollar a piece. So that is my plan this year also.

I thought about sinking my pots and wondered if that might work. I don't buy Japanese and Siberian Iris from some places because they only ship in the fall. I have lost numerous JI and SI plants because they heave so badly. Wonder if this might work for them also? Might have to try that. I've had daylilies lay on top of the ground and they come back the next year and even bloom! Last year I had some hosta and daylily plants that I rescued and didn't have time to get them in the ground and ran out of pots. I tossed some dirt around the roots (very little dirt) and they came back this year. I was very surprised the hosta came back.

iris, I still don't have all the plant planted yet due to all the rain, so I know I had iris, siberian iris, butterfly bush, daylilies, lilies, hostas, stokes asters and roses for sure. Here is a pic of the winter bed, things started growing before I realized it. Not very pretty but you will see there are two beds, one had more shade than the other.
