Will you all please check my list and see if I have your name on everything you wanted from me? Also, if there are any of you who want anything that is not taken,(there will be a number with no name beside it), please let me know. I am going to close my list after Sat., May 1st because I will be going to my daughter's for Mother's Day for a few days. As soon as I get home from her house I will be getting my suitcase packed to come to Jeri's so I won't have time to be digging and potting any more plants after Saturday. Thank you!
Marilyn - I'd like a Big Dipper EE if no one else wants it. I see you asked for a Calidora from someone else. Do you want two? I have one no one has asked for. The EE's that are coming back seem to all be Mirandas. I had at least 5 or so diff ones back there, not sure if the others will come back or not at this point. But I will be you Miranda.
edited to say - huh? "I will be you Miranda"? LOL I meant of course to say I will bring you some Miranda -
marsue...if you still have the Shasta daisy, purple coneflower, and tall pink phlox...I have a home for them... just didn't want to ask for anything else...but if you're closing the gate...I'd appreciate 'em! And I found you a Chicago Harlequin EE if you want it.
I`m interested in any kind of bedding plants like impatiens, different kinds of hostas and lilies. I have some crinum lilys waiting for them to bloom so I can put in the colors. I should post pictures of the water iris just to tempt people to take them.
Since it has warmed up my rose cuttings have died. I will have to take those off the list. Everything else looks like it will make to the RU.
Ems- would love it if those easter lilies would live and stay around for me. I have planted and planted those and they bloom beautifully(I love them too) and then to my disappointment they promptly disappear never to return. I don`t know if a critter is eating them or what. I wish some of the weeds would disappear like that.LOL!!! The crinum lilies are always staying put so I have started collecting those a little more.
Marsue,I`ll take any leftovers. There is always somewhere I can plant things around here.
Riverland - Theblueish iris in the other thread is Sinfonietta and a newbie to my garden I bought last year. I will share this one in future RUs if it will multiply for me in the next year aftter it gets established.
The iris I do have up for grabs at the RU is one I think came from you. Do you reecognize this picture? It is a huge bloom 6 in and is lavender. The picture isn`t doing it justice either. This is a big frilly bloom that gets attention.
Karen - this is the second year for the E. lilies - and boy did they multiply! These haven't bloomed yet - they are planted in an area that no longer gets sun since johnny put up the shed. I'll bring you some and hopefully you will at least get one year of blooms out of them. I have some crinums that were here when I moved in 3 years ago and they still haven't bloomed - just not enough sun I think.
Ok, I was out in the hospital ward, and found some things that I don't need.
all in pots already,
4 lady in red hydrangea all coming back from last years rooting
one extra naples tb iris potted up
one lost tag potted iris, i'm sure its a nice one , just lost the tag. doubt I will be able to name it for you later though.
I also have 4 potted up already gone through shock Rice paper plant, they wilt severely but these are showing new growth and not wilting any longer. This is all I have potted, but I have more, they will be severely wilted though if I pot more, they won't have time to recover good, but will probably still live.
I also have these, I think leeks but not sure, I need to find out, how can I find out? anybody know?
Leeks are a type of onion, right? Maybe you post it over on the veggie forum, if there is one, and somebody could ID it for you.
I have one of your rice paper plants which I haven't put in the ground yet, KA. I will give it to whoever wants it because I have decided it is not what I thought it was (can't remember why I asked for it--LOL)
Marilyn how come you didn't ask for a bombast poppy? I figured you and charlotte would want those.
Just wondering. I know you don't have room for everything. LOL
I'm about to go find the herb forum and post that picture above and another picture of what might be garlic, and see which is garlic and whichis leeks, I'd like to start using them, I dug all these up last year and danny saw me dumping them and he transplanted them out at the edge of the woods, and they are all about to take over the woods now. so I figured I'd better find out if they are leeks or garlic, I had both at one time
I had sown some poppy seeds last fall but evidently none of them has come up or if they did, I thought they were weeds and pulled them up! If you have a bombast poppy left, I will take one of those, too, Kathy Ann.
edited to add: your link isn't working--probably didn't leave enough space before you pasted the link
KathyAnn, I like everything you have. If you have any of these left, please put me down for them.marnada fireball.marnada scarlet red, Bombart poppies, black knight buddleia, milkweed, zebrina malva, lady in red hydrangea, Whew! Thanks.
Charlott, I will take a moon vine please.
Em, An easter lilly if you have one left. PLEASE
Sandy, the Ric Rac orchid if one is left. Thanks
Karen, I would love to have a castor bean seed or seedling if you have any left. thanks
Jeri, I think you have been too busy to look at other threads but I so want you show something. I believe that you, Mary, Mary and Lisa (I am probably leaving out some names) gave me some money at the fall RU to buy something for my garden...
Well here it is...I just love it. Thank y'all so much!
I think for the sake of Charlotte's vehichle and all 3 of us traveling together and limited space, I'm going to close off my trade list now. I think I've kept it up long enough for everybody to get what they wanted.
and all the extras are spoken for now too
except the ricepaper plant.
I've got everybody 's list updated, and will work on getting things potted up this week.
I'm going to leave my list up though just in case someone new comes in and doens't have any plants. ;0)
Does anyone know some of the nurseries we'll be going to? I looked up Doug Young and that one has lots of "interesting" stuff!! I was hoping to google some of the ones we're going to so I could start a list and scare my husband!
Marilyn, it really doesn't have spines. I break the pieces off with bare hands. They're more like hairy little protrusions. It's realy more of a succulent...
I'll bring you one and if you don't want it after you see it, you can give it away... won't hurt my feelings!
Forgot...does anyone want any mullien? I dug some at the lake and brought them home. Looks a little like lambs ear with a very tall yellow spike in the fall. The spike dries and you need to cut it off before it goes to seed or you'll have lots of them. It's a herb...very drought resistant.
Jeri...that's the link I saw. I think Smockette pulled it up when she visited here a couple of weekends ago. I just wondered if there were a few others that are definites so I could look them over. I showed DH the website and he just shook his head...poor man... Sounds like this will be fun. Hope it doesn't rain, but I'm taking boots anyway!
Well that's a good starting point! I'll look 'em up in the morning. I'll show 'em to Bruce right before breakfast! That'll make his day for sure!
We also need to find motel room near Forest Hill, and Central too. Can't remember where we stayed last time in Central...but we'll find one. Think we're going on to Biloxi after the swap for a day or two since we'll be so close. Fun weekend, for sure!
Are we to take door prizes this time or not? I forgot about those...
I have a few salvias that I can share if anyone is interested... I have La Trinidad, and Hot Lips, and ???? the name just left me... I think it is Cherry Queen but I will have to double check. Also, I have some mellow yellow spirea that I can share. Anyone interested in Mary Stoker Mums? I also have Baptisia Austrailis ? (not sure if I have the name correct) that I could probably get some of if anyone is interested...
My internet is down AGAIN at home... and I forgot my list ...
OMG! I so wish I were coming to the RU! Y'all certainly are giving way some stuff that I would love to have!!! Oh well, maybe nest year. Since a few of the girls are coming from here, if you got something from me last year and it did not survive the winter, I bet they would bring some from my yard ;o) Of course, I have not asked them to do this but I bet they would have a little extra room. lol
Kim, I wish you were going with us, too. We are going to have so much fun! I don't think Charlotte would mind squeezing in some plants from you on the trip down and even possibly some plants for you on the trip back.
I am bringing more than 30 plants and with Kathy Ann's and Charlotte's plants plus possibly some from Kim, I think the back of Charlotte's truck will be packed so I better close my list. so here is my official notice -LOL-
MY LIST IS NOW CLOSED!
Karen, I put your name on the few extras that I have. Did you want the ditch daisies, too? They are pretty but they can spread quickly.
Becky, I have your name on a Hot Lips but it is very small so you might want one from Genna, too. However, they grow extremely fast if planted in good soil. The one Sandra gave me in April, 2008, was 3 inches tall when she gave it to me. By the end of the season, it was huge: 3 ft. x 3ft. at least!
LOL.. Marilyn... actually I had forgotten about asking for the hot lips from you, till I checked my list..lol...but if Genna will give me a start also, I'd like 2 so I can put them on the east side of the shade garden one on each end. That area gets more sun, and the shade garden is also my memory garden for my DD. His fav color was red
LOL... well, we all know I am not the best at getting things to live, so we'll see how many make it ! But I will put you down Beck
I am also not as good at getting things to grow as Marilyn... the hot lips she gave me is only about 2 ft high after 2 yrs - but thankfully it is blooming like crazy already where last year I had to wait until late August or Early Sept for my first blooms!
By the way Marilyn, I did notice a few that were red and white so maybe the next rush of blooms will be the right color! :)
Just found a box of hyacinth vine seeds from last fall. I'll take some of them to the swap. Too late to try to germinate them...but they're so easy...can't fail. Vines make a gorgeous display in the late summer till freeze.
Genna.. LOL.. well I'm not the best at rooting either... listen since your baby is small don't worry about giving me one...K??
Linda... LOL... hey where are y'all going to stay? Will ya'll be staying in FH on Thursday night or what... where... when?? Lyle will be back in TN and me and PeCe are driving alone and going to stay in a motel. Hey.. I know you'll have all kinds of plants people want... btw... did you slip one of those NOID's we were talking about into my pile at GCRU??? I think it sure looks like it..LOL
Marilyn.. I think that area gets 6 hours... but if not I'll move it.I had a pink hot lips looking one, and it did fine there, but I lost it too... sniff. My other red hot lips was planted in full sun though and as i said she went to plant heaven too! Petunias and roses are growing on that end too so maybe??
Gee Becky that sounds like fun! When DH gets home I'll talk to him about it. Are you sure you have room for all of us? Would help to unload your plants early too! More room to carry things from FH!!!!!
Sandi... we are about an hours drive N of Beaumont, so not a whole lot out of y'alls way. We have a 5th wheel camper that one of y'all could use... it has a queen bed.. and the other bedroom in the house has a queen bed too. The lil bedroom has a full bed..lol.. so I guess if one of the men act up we could sent them there..LOL We live in a trailer, so it's tiny compared to a house but y'all are more than welcome.. anytime!. I was thinking the best thing to do was leave Thursday and stay in a motel close to Jeris, then try and take the plants to her house... can we Jeri?? I don't think the plants would like it in a hot car over night.. and yeah... more room for Forest Hill..lol
Becky, Really appreciate the offer but Bruce reminded me that we'd be going a day early if we did that. I have some co-op plants coming and hopefully, they'll get here before I have to rely on DD to open box and replant 'em. Our plan is to stay in Lake Charles Thurs night and drive up to FH Fri morning. Stay in Central Fri nite ..and swap, swap, swap Saturday!!! BTW your yard is gorgeous and that's a mobile home...not a trailer. Hope you'll invite us again. Would love to stroll the garden with you! And Bruce loved the part about having to maybe stay in the little room if he misbehaved! I'm the bad one, ...not him!
Sandi...well the offer still stands if y'all decide to come on.. I know it's a good drive for y'all! TY for the compliment, but it's still a work in process.. OH... no.. it's a trailer..LOL... I'mm too redneck to live in a moblie home..LOL
Marilyn.. that's my swing inside the shade garden... I made a mistake.. that's what I get for not enlarging those thumb print pics, but that was taken about 2 weeks ago... I have done a lot to it since then. As Sandra says "it" takes up a lot of valuable real estate..lol.. so I enlarged the inside on the end coming into it, and planted more hostas and stuff, and got my arbor up on the east end
showing a pic of the arbor, that leads to no where so far..lol.. I have to dig those daylilies out, and make another path in
This is one side I worked on for 2 days, moving hostas and adding hostas.. oh btw.. that edging isn't finished..lol... just a guideline, and I drug on section in upside down... that was all noticed about all my hard work..
Yes Kim and they are loaded this year. It seems that all the fruit trees have an abundant load of fruit setting. Unfortunately the birds are the only ones that enjoy the loquat, figs, pineapple guava and persimmons. I'm covering my blueberry bushes so I get the berries this year.
Everybody, those plants I have been calling Ditch Daisies, have turned out to more likely be Marguerite Daisies, thanks to an id by Cindy. I had a Margeurite Daisy two seasons ago but it didn't do anything last year--thought I lost it. Evidently, it reseeded itself and now it has come back and is blooming with lovely white flowers. I have two of these potted up and they are ready for the taking--first come, first served!
Whoops, I forgot I put Karen's name on them because she asked for my leftovers, but I will save one for her and give one to anyone else who wants it and asks first. If nobody asks for the remaining one, then Karen will get it, too.
Marilyn - I would like to have one of those - but I do not have to have it at this RU... if someone further away from us wants it then maybe I can get one at a later time.
I just need to remember WHO has it ... LOL
I will put your name on the remaining one, Genna, but what you do with it after I hand it over to you, will be your business. LOL In other words, if somebody else wants it after we get to the RU, you may feel free to give it to them and I can give you one later, since you are closer to me than some of the folks in other states. Fair enough?
3 Big Kiss - Charlotte1 Genna Mary

4 Rattlebox tree Sandi
4 Mini purple Iris
5 La Iris purple ( I think)
4 yellow Psuedacorus Iris
4 Shasta Daisy
Cindy, these are the names of the daylilies you gave me las t fall--not iris, as I previously said. (duh!)
Darling Dilemma; Graceland; Rooten-tooten red; Sizzling Hot; Tomato Surprise
I have more than one of each of these so if you need a re-start of any of them just let me know and I can bring them to you when we come down for the RU.
Got you all down Marilyn thanks but I still have those. I can always give you a start of the firespike if you want to winter it over. I find it really easy in the glass room. I have never go it to bloom yet though. My red bloomed beautifully last fall. I am headed out. I know I have other s to post .
I'm affraid i'm going to have to bow out of coming to the RU . I have two graduations this year, both kids are graduating, but have worked around those dates and was hoping that I didn't forget any other obligations for graduation. But unfortunately I have let one obligation slip by me, and it's a honor banquet for my son on the l6th of May. Graduation comes once in a life time. And I don't want to let any of this slip away from me. I missed my Son's prom last weekend. Although it wasn't a big deal. (He didn't have a date) . I sure don't want to miss anything else concerning his special moment.
I have made arrangements with Charlotte to bring all my plants down there to distribute among those that have asked for them. I forgot to ask her if she'd bring mine back LOL but i'm sure she probably wouldn't mind that either.
I'm going to Little Rock this Friday to bring the plants to Kim and Charlotte is going to pick them up from her house. I truly appreciate her doing this for me. She has no idea what she's getting into ha!
I'm sure you guys will understand about the banquet and me backing out, I should hav e checked before committing to the RU on the date of that Banquet. I feel bad about that. I am goin g to miss a good time. But There is always another RU and not another Graduation.
We know you're only trying to get "Mother of the Year"... and you're doing a dern good job of it! You're so right about not missing those moments. Good for you. (Hope your son knows he has a special mom).
Kathy Ann.. I definitely understand... and your sons graduation is very important. No need to plan too much and not be able to enjoy any of it!! I'll try to help Charlotte if she needs it.. I get flustered with my own plants..lol.. sio I can imagine trying to give out someone elses, and I'll give your stuff to Charlotte.. hey.. you need to get something else from me!!..LOL Sure wanted to meet you, but there will be other times!
Sorry you won't be able to attend Kathy... but I know you must be excited about all those graduations!! The banquet is one of those special one time things and I hope you have a great time! I know Darren will be happy to have you there.
Cindy- I would love to have any of the named DL's - just whichever you have some of is fine!
We will definitely miss having you with us, Kathy Ann, but as you said, graduation is a once in a lifetime things and RU's come around every year. You have to be there for Darren's honor banquet! I'll be riding with Charlotte so I will be there to help her out with Kathy Ann's plants, too. Kathy Ann will have them all labeled so it shouldn't be too hard for us to get them to the right folks. :o))
Yes he wuvs you! Guys are different about expressing things. I remember when my son was in high school and played football and didn't get home from practice until very late. So one night we decided to go ahead and eat before he got home. When he got home and I fixed him his dinner, he looked around realizing only one plate had been set and asked have you all already eaten. That was all he said but the way he said it and the look on his face told me he was really hurt. He was used to all of us sitting down to eat together. So we never ate without him again.
I was talking to a lady this afternoon about Forest Hill and she has me really excited about going there. She said she was in Alexandria with her book club and someone told her about Forest Hill so she insisted they go over. She was talking about some nursery by the name of Young (Bob Young maybe). But she was very envious that I am going and wants to know what all I buy.
Riverland, could I, please, have a pink hibiscus? My GH#1 had all my Hibs in it when it got bombarded by an 80+' pine & I'm still trying to figure out all that were in there. (Pixs on FB) I think that 2 out of 25+ have survived.
I'm back @ City_Sylvia's after making N Tx RU in Arl today. Talked my 86 yr old mom to going again! She had a blast! Took her 2 yrs ago & she really enjoys them. When I took her back home (FtW) she had me out digging up a bunch of plants that she felt that were in the wrong place. With every one I dug, she would say, 'Now, I could pot that up & take it in the fall!' I told her 'Yep'
I will post my list when I get back home which depends on the driver, Smock.
B4 ya'll ask, Smock & I live 50 miles apart but travel together when we make these far-away RUs. Beck can testify! lol
Beck, you have 3 more bags, packed full, fr my mom's & I haven't dug up fr my ginger garden!!!
Hope to maybe see Marylyn Wed on my day in that bad ole city to the south!!!
Now, that Arl is over, I can get serious about housing! lol
Linda...You're kidding right??? YAY... Thanks girl!!! Did you give your Momma a special hug for me?? I know she had a ball at Arlington! Don't worry about getting the grass from Marilyn... she's supposed to be mailing it to me in the morning.. besides.. looks like there wouldn't be room in my car for more anyway..LOL
Thanks Cindy... would you like some more ferns in trade for the dl's??
Genna, I don't see a trade list for you...so I'm wondering if you saw my request for La Trinidad, Baptista, and Cherry Queen?
To all: I'm trying to finish up my trade list so I can get everything ready to go. We have to be in Dallas this weekend. Casa Flora Ferns has invited our garden club up to tour their facility. We may go up earlier in the week. And the next week, we wil be leaving mid week to get to Forest Hill early! We plan to spend Thurs. nite in FH. Time has gotten away from me!
I need to know where to go to meet ya'll too. I'll send my cell phone # to Jeri. Can hardly wait to see all of you!
Ohhh Jeri... I am sure I can squeeze in some plants somewhere..LOL.. I know how to pack a car.. except this last RU when I had to put on my brakes real fast and a few went flying in the floor board! I usually double decker the plants in the banana boxes if they fit, so I think I'll be ok.. I might be hollering can someone else stuff mine in their car!
Kathy Ann, give one of them the hydrangea you have listed for me--I live so much closer to you and it will be easier for me to get one another time. I just thought it would be neat to have a red hydrangea but I don't have to have one right now--later will do.
Someone gave me one at the Oct RU and I put it in a pot and just set it in a flower bed. It made it through our super cold winter in that clay pot and is just growing away! I really like the way the stems are red.
Jeri, you go ahead and plant that baby and enjoy it. They grow really fast, and you might be able to overwinter it. I can't keep it over winter here. I took cuttings, but did not have any luck with them rooting. We will probably start a new obsession with them--LOL
Just wanted to let everyone know that I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it to the RU after all. I've been having a lot of flares lately and I had gotten better in time to go to Bonnie's . Then I managed to fracture a toe, of all things , that weekend. I thought it was just jammed but , no, it's cracked. It's not too bad and I can walk on it , but I can't dig. I did get my stuff potted up today using a trowel except for a few and I had someone dig those for me. I'll just have to wait and see how it is next week. Seems to be my motto lately. lol
If I can't come, I'll try to get everyone's plants to them later.
So sorry about your toe, Terrye! That must really hurt! I don't suppose there is anything they can do about a broken toe, is there? We will miss you, just like we are going to miss Sandra and Kathy Ann! Maybe you and Sandra can both make it to Kathy Ann's in June--sure hope so!
There's nothing you can do for a broke toe except wait for it to heal. It's not bad as long as I don't put pressure on it from a shoe. I'm wearing mostly sandles and I'm fine to walk then as long as I don't twist or bend it too much.
Jeri, after the flares, the pain from the toe hasn't really been very bad. Save a recliner for me, just in case!
I hope to get to come anyway. I just hate Sandra won't be with me. It takes that long ride for us to get caught up on our talking! lol
Cindy. I would like a rattle tree please, and if you have any leftovers from the daylilies I would like to have them.Thanks.
Sandi, I would like a night blooming cereus. I had a huge one that froze this year. It had to be close to 10 years old. It was over 3 years for it bloomed when I got it. My dog (hated or loved )the smell of the flower and distroyed it.It had opened up near the rocker and couldn't close up when daylight came because the top half of the bloom was hung on the rung.of the rocking chair.
KathyAnn, I am glad you chose your son, cherish every moment you can, but I am sorry you will not be able to come for the roundup.
Sandra, I had no idea you weren't comming to Jeri"s, it will not be the same.
What about Ruth? How is she doing? Sure would love to see both of you.
Terrye. I am going to be looking for you though, maybe we can get a wheele borrow and taxi you around at Forest Hill. LOL Love you girl.
So sorry to hear about your toe and the flare ups Terrye. We sure will miss you but certainly don't want you to do anything that will cause you more pain! Take care of yourself! Will still be hoping that you will feel better in time to come.
I am looking for a Hindu Rope Hoya, i had one that was over 18 inches long and lost it. I cannot remember where I got it from and I have checked around here at nurseries I may have visited but no luck yet. Jeri do you think I may find one at Forest Hill?
I'm looking for a Sun Star plant (actually would like to have 2 but 1 would be better than none) so if anyone runs across run please get it and I will pay you for it. If I don't find one before Forest Hill, I'm hoping I will be able to find it there.
Due to the fact that this will be a 5 day trip & I want to buy some flats of plugs &/or seedlings, my space in Smock's truck is limited. Last yr @ Jaxville, Smock said one more plant & I would have to stay in J so Frostweed had to take the last flat to the truck! lol
I won't be bringing a LOT of extras! So, speak up!
Laura Bush Petunias
Pink Laura Bush Petunias
Red Tips (2 ltr size)
Crocosmias - Orange, I think!
This is all I can think of while sitting on Smock's couch in Katy! Botanicals supplied on most, upon request.
Will this do for starters?
It is an asteraceae! Whatever that means! lol
wildseedsfarms.com - click online shopping, then individual species, page 3, bottom item.
I have bought 25+ kinds of seeds fr them this yr!
Does this help?
I would like butterfly weed, Laura B. petunia, white rain lily , johnny jump up,orange bulbine.and Mex. sedum. If you have any extra I would like one of each for Lisa. I hae to share mine with her. Thanks
Well, the reason I didn't post a "trade list" was for fear I would lose all my cuttings... :( Well, it looks like the few Baptista, Cherry Queen and La Trinidad cuttings that I had have all bit the dust! So, I went back and started over - although I do not have enough of those three plants to try again. So I had to find something else!
I did try several Victoria Blue Salvia - I believe I have 7 of those...
I have also attempted some of the Mellow Yellow Salvia - although I am not sure how well they will root.
I have a couple of Argentine Skies Salvia that I am sure that would be pretty easy to pot up if anyone is interested, and plenty of Mary Stoker mums if anyone is interested. Just let me know. Then I have PLENTY of the Yellow and Red Marble 4:00s - although the may be half grown by next weekend! LOL I also have pink and fushia is anyone is interested. Sorry that the others that everyone had asked for didn't make it. Maybe this year my plants will have plenty of growth and I will be able to root some later in the year...
Marilyn, by the way, my two little stalks of that white phlox is absolutely outdoing itself! I can't wait until they multiply and i have a nice stand- they are so pretty!
Genna, a general rule of thumb is to allow 6 weeks for something to root from cuttings.
If you put several cuttings in a pot, you will also get a better chance of getting some rooted. Try to get a long enough cutting to have at least 2 leaf nodes in the soil, 3 if possible, strip the lower leaves. Some plants root quicker with hormones, some will rot if you use the hormone.
Sink the cutting deep into your pot and close together, remember how you gather flowers and hold the stems together to make a bouquet, hold them together like that to put them into the pot to root. Water them well and put them in a shady place. Just keep them watered and don't pull on them. It is so tempting to try to tug and see if they are getting roots. Be sure you firm the soil around the cuttings well.
When you see new growth, and enough time has passed, you can dump the whole pot out and untangle the roots, and pot them up separately.
Genna: did I give you the white Minnie Pearl phlox or the white David phlox? I am glad it is doing well for you! I would like some of the Argentine Skies salvia but if you are coming to Kathy Ann's get together on June 5th, you can wait till then to bring it to me if you get some started.
Wow - ok ... I have never done it like that. Always put each cutting into its own separate container. Although I do strip the leaves and firm the soil and try to keep it moist. I will have to try that method with something else. Some of my salvias are so small because they were just planted last summer... but I hope they will shoot up quite a bit this summer and so maybe I will be able to root some things for fall.
Most of the Victoria Blue that I did yesterday had some tiny feeder roots on them already, and I am sure the Argentine Skies would be fine because they spread by roots so the spare little clumps I have should have their own roots... not sure at ALL about that Mellow Yellow. It doesn't even have leaf nodes close to the ground so I am not sure it will root at all that way!
Marilyn - we cross posted. You gave me the Minnie Pearl and it is really pretty. I am loving it! I am sure I can get an Argentine Skies with roots already... there is a little clump that is separated from the main plant. It multiplies by sending out runners and sending up new clumps so I read... so surely it would live!! :)
I am not sure that I will get to come to KA. I would love to...but not sure I can swing it with all we have going on right then. Kyle will be at UCA that week before for Boy's State and will be coming home on Friday. Not sure yet if I have to take him, but there are 4 boys going from our school, and 2 from a nearby school that he knows so they may all ride up together. Then I think I will have to take him to Fayetteville for a camp on Sunday - but there again he may ride with someone else... I have a feeling I will be swamped doing laundry and helping unpack and pack again. ^_^ But the main reason that I am not sure is that will be the next to the last weekend that Clara is with us. I know the following weekend we will be having a birthday / going away party for her at our house... have considered having it on the 5th so that maybe we coud go one a really short trip to Memphis or Dallas or something that last weekend she is here. Had wanted to take her to San Antonio to SeaWorld because she loves Orcas and has never seen one in person - but since San Antonio is an 8 hr trip - and we have NO TIME, I can't see that happening. She also likes Pandas - and Memphis is about 4.5 hrs so that MIGHT be a possibility! LOL Then she had also wanted to see Dallas before she left ... don't know where all the time has gone since she arrived - we have stayed busy - just didn't get all the things done that she wanted to see!
Jeri...we're going to stay in FH Thurs nite. Did you tell me before that some of the nurseries would sell wholesale to Master Gardeners? Are we going to some of them? Where are going to meet? What time? Can you tell I'm getting excited?
We'll be in Dallas tomorrow. There's over 20 nurseries within 9 miles of where we're going...poor Bruce!
Ruth - We're going to miss you! What's a RU without the Queen??? Take care of yourself and I hope you feel better soon. Happy Mother's Day! Oh guess what - the beautyberry did nothing all winter and spring. I thought it was dead but left it in the ground. I found new leaves starting today!! Am so excited!
Oh Ruth they are going to do us wrong---we will not be there and they will talk about us, Kathy Ann too !!!!
No more than Ruth and I have been able to get into this year, the conversation will be pretty boring I guess-LOL
Ruth...I haven't seen you in two years! Can you at least send us a few photos with Lamar. What, you're not letting Lamar come either??? Who will Bruce talk to???? You take care of yourself, lady. I promise I won't believe anything they say about you...well, I'll probably believe, but it'll be funny, I'm sure! Sandi
Unfortunately, I am not going to be able to come either. It was looking iffy because of my foot but that is doing okay. Now the weekend I had scheduled off to see my sister has fallen through and I need to go to Chicago this weekend. I'll really miss seeing everyone and maybe can catch some of you at the next get-together.
Ruth, I hate you are not feeling well. Take care of yourself. Maybe when everyone is feeling better we can meet for lunch or something.
Jeri if they have any of those plants like Sandra wanted left, I would love to have 2 - 4 for 2.00 each... I would take 2 of one color, if they have more than one color, I would like to have 2 of a second color as well. I will give one of each of them to my sister. Sorry, I can't remember what she called them...
I added a few extras to mine. I will try to explain these Iris. I have a picture of each of them.
The one I am calling a mini Iris is tall but the bloom is about 2 in by 4 in. It is a beautiful purple.
The one I say is a form of La iris has the form of a La Iris but is sometimes called purple flag. Really pretty. Not really sure what it is.
The yellow one is said to be invasive but it hasn't been for me. It is tall and vivid yellow. I do not know for sure this is what this is. Really stands out in a semishade garden. It can take water or be dry.
Ruth you know I am just so sad you are not coming. I always look forward to our time together before heading to FH. I guess I am going to have to head your way so I can see you and Lamar.
Sandra and Terrye you both know you will be dearly missed. Who is going to be my bed partner now? Sandra I hope you begin to get better soon and that Jerry gets a great job. Maybe in Jackson Miss. LOL
Terrye I know you won't be missing us until after this weekend. All those wonderful greenhouses with your sister is hard to beat. Look for that red plant for Sandra up there. Have a grand time and brings some real goodies back with you.
Kathy Ann I have already told you you will be missed but I will say it again. YOU will be missed.
They had tons left it seemed!!!! LOL!!! We had to move them from the sale yard to the can yard where there will get water until sold. What doesn't sell Tue. will be donated to non-profit. I'll call you Charlotte Tue. when I go. Karen it is from 10 AM to noon if there is any way you can make it and if your know of a church, school or any non-profit Karen be sure and tell them to go Wed. at 10:00AM.
Ruth, I am so sorry you and Lamar are not able to come this year.I ahve your Blue Bird Althea replacement and will send it to you by whom ever you say. Just let me know.
Big Hugs for both you and Lamar.
Sandi, If you have another shrimp plant I would like to have one, please,
You have me crying this morning reading your post I know you won't miss us as much as we will miss you. We have on looked forward to getting together since we drove out of Jeri drive last yr and now boom old age really hit me. I know it really isn't all old age most of if it putting this body thru all I did mostly smoke'g. Hugs to all and I love you guys so much.
Ya'll PLEASE say a prayer for me... Kyle is home sick with a 102 fever and complaining of a bad headache... My head is hurting and I am just hoping it is allergies and NOT what he has!!! He KNOWS I have plans for this weekend! :)
I know everyone is watching this thread---I have put this on the prayer request forum but did not want anyone to miss knowing that Ruth's doc has scheduled her for a scan tomorrow--he thinks she has a blocked artery in her neck.
Sandi, I'm sorry, it sure is late to be starting cuttings for the swap.
I don't need one it was just like the old saying, My eyes are bigger than my stomach. or what ever applies here. Looking forward to seeing you again.
Jeri...we're planning to meet you at Doug Young's. I read that they open at 7 AM! We're staying in Oakdale, so it'll be out of the way to drive to the BK...and eat up valuable shopping time! I have your cell # and you have mine. As it gets closer to 10 AM, I'll call to make sure that's where you'e going first! We'll find you regardless. And I'll have my laptop too.
Mary, I dug one up and potted it. They're really like a weed here...every piece that touches the ground roots, and each bracket on a stem can root. It might not look so good at first, but you'll have a bed of it by July!
I just hope I have everything. I marked and separated stuff yesterday. We're ready to load the truck and boogey. Bruce said it would take us 8 hours to get there...if HE drives maybe...
Can't wait to see all of you and meet new folks!
And all those cactus I had to dig for Marilyn... WHEW!
Kyle is feeling better - went to school today because he is not running a fever. I STILL have a headache but I am almost packed and ready to go. Didn't quite get thru with everything last night or this morning - so I have to go back home briefly after work to get my things and head toward Cindy's! I am excited!
By the way, I did mange to make a Rocky Road cake last night for Jeri's. Had planned to bake pies, but found out I didn't have any pie shells... :(
Jeri - I haven't found anyone that has encores in stock that sells to the public yet... and one place I found said that when they did get them in stock, they would be 20.00 those of you with encores - are they worth that much more money??
I'm bringing my dba papers & hope to buy wholesale. So, if ya'll find something @ a place that doesn't sell to the public, maybe I can buy it for you.
Gen, I was planning on looking @ the Encores & buying some for my mom! We will ck it out when we get there.
Has anyone seen or know of any nurseries that sell 'plugs', or seedlings? I'm wanting to buy flats of small plants & grow them off back here in Tx.
Jeri - I posted some pics of my area that I plan to do the foundation planting in...on a MS thread asking for landscaping ideas if you have time to check them out. I also have
them printed out to bring with me.
We're at the motel in Oakdale. Had to double back to a casino tonight so we could use our cell phones...no coverage for us here. Worked out okay, as we had dinner there before driving back.
Had to unload all the plants and take them into the room this afternoon. What a pain! And then I had to put Marilyn's Calidora EE in the tub for a drink. Perked right up, but now doesn't want to give up the shower...
I'm really worried about the plants tomorrow in the back of the truck. They made it this far fine, but it was overcast all the way from Austin. Don't want it to rain tomorrow, but would welcome some clouds...
We'll wait for ya'll at Doug Young's...see you tomorrow...!!!!
We got home about half an hour ago. Scary trip only once...going from Lake Chas. to Lafeyette. Rain was coming down so hard, most of the cars were pulling onto the shoulder (including an 18 wheeler under an overpass).. I was driving and opted to stay on the hwy. I was afraid the next car would folllow me off the hwy and rear end us. Been there... It lasted about 15 minutes, but seemed like an hour...and no exits to get off on to. After that, it was smooth sailing.
Jeri, thanks so much for your hospitality. I'd never have known about those 92 nurseries up the hwy, either! I think Bruce even had a nice time, even tho he was pretty much outnubered...women, and plant nuts to boot. He's pretty exhausted now, slept most of the way home...except when he was driving (I hope)!
We unloaded all the plants into the garage...too tired to water them until tomorrow, but they look great. Our neighbor came over and teased me about buying so many plants, so I told him I only bought 3. He couldn't believe it!
We had an inch and a half of rain here...so that's pretty good.
I'll d-mail everyone I didn't already thank for plants. I'm overwhelmed. The first swap at your house 2 yrs ago, I didn't ask for many as I was the newby. I was thrilled with what I received. This time, since I lost so many things to the freeze, I asked for things that I figured would weather the winter. I can't wait to get planting! I always remember who gave me what, and I think that's the best part of trading.
Linda called me when we had stopped in Houston for gas. Said she had a door prize for me and gumbo mix. I really didn't need another thing! I intended the bougie to stay there. And I did already find the gumbo mix, so I'll be trying it out this week!
It was great to meet the "faces" of the folks I read and write to on this site. Everyone is soooo nice. Sorry we didn't stay, but I'm glad to get Mister home, so he can take care of himself a little better. He sounds terrible...
Take care and ya'll enjoy the rest of the weekend.
Thanks to a WONDERFUL hostess for a great time!!!!!! Enjoyed spending time with friends, old and new! Johnny says he really enjoyed it and was glad to finally meet the people I talk to him about. Thanks to everyone for the plants! Can't wait to add them to my gardens!! After we left I realized my camera was in my purse - duh! I didn't take a single picture :( Hope everyone made it home safe and sound. Charlotte and Marilyn - be safe today!!
Where do I begin? I am exhausted but can't remember the last time I had so much fun!!!! We didn't find the plants or the prices that we were looking for at Forest Hill but I had already realized that in March when Mary & I went. The plants were much healthier than March but I really wasn't satisfied. Sandi, Bruce, my niece Mary and I hit around 5 nurseries and it was pretty much the same everywhere. Even though I didn't need ANYTHING or want anything...I managed to fill up the HHR!!! LOL!!! Linda, Smock & Becky did manage to find some good deals where they went. Cindy and Genna only hit DY but I don't even think they bought very much. Just visiting was great!
The RU was a GREAT success IMO even thought there were many beloved members missing!!!! You know who you were!!! LOL!!! I'm sorry to say that other than maybe Lisa there are not many pictures. It was entirely too fast pace. I blinked and it was 4:00 PM I wish I had had more time with each of you. Thank each of you for the wonderful hostess gifts. I felt like it was my BD without that ugly part of getting older!!! LOL!!! Thank you again!!!
I'll try to get pictures of my collection of goodies but it will probably be tomorrow.
Good morning! I am home safe and sound, FINALLY...arrived home about 12:30 pm so it was a LONG day - especially after staying up to 2:00 am talking the night before!
Thank you to everyone for all the great plants and great memories! I had such a blast... my body and I will pay for it for several days recovering, but it was well worth it! It was so great to see (almost) everyone again, but we sure missed not having everyone there!
A big thank you to Jeri for sharing her beautiful home with us - and such wonderful hospitality. Felt right at home! A big thanks to Cindy for letting us stay at her house to break up the trip, and for riding with me to help keep me awake. I had such a blast visiting with her to and from!! It was just a wonderful time all the way around, but I agree with Jeri - WAY too short!! :)
Well, I am trying to rush out the door to make it to church - missed SS already... hope everyone has a great day!
Thanks again everyone! It was an absolutely incredible time!!
PS - Emily...don't forget that Lemon Sq recipe! PLEASE...
What more can I say that hasn't been said except WOW. We had a wonderful time. If was great to meet new faces and hug our known ones. Those who were not there were not forgotten because you were fair game to be talked about. Were yours ears burning? LOL We missed you. Everyone got tired of me lining them up to get a group picture but I knew this was the last time I would get one.

Lisa, Mary, Mary, Jeri, Charlotte, Genna, Becky, Linda, Marilyn, Smock
I missed one of the seed swaps at Terrye's and I swore to myself that if humanly possible I would not do that again. I spent the day talking to ginger from Australia LOL he couldn't make it either!!!!!
Johnny, Em's DH, Emily,Paul's back, Jeri, Genna, side view, Charlott's back. Genna is trying to hear over the pounding rain on Jeri's tin roof. The sound was deafning.
Charlott Cindy and I went to Clegg's nursery while everyone was waiting on the food and we thought we were going to have to spend the rest of the day stuck there. What a place to be though. We managed to fill Charlott's truck up while waiting. LOL
Did you guys get the plants I sent, how did that go , hope everything got to everybody that wanted something. I'm not sure if those poppies will survive or not, I sure hope they do, they just don't like to be transplanted at all.
We're back! We got back to my house a little after 5 pm. It was a beautiful day all the way back until we got about 30 miles from Little Rock and it started raining but by the time we got to my house it had stopped raining and we were able to unload Marilyn's plants and reload into her car with out getting wet! We were absolutely packed to the brim. Marilyn found a little potman at a nursery close to Jeri's and we were so packed full he had to ride on the floor under Marilyn's feet!!
Cindy thanks so much for inviting us to stay with you Thurs. night. It was such fun visiting with you and getting to see in person all the things you have been showing us. Can't wait to see what you do with all your new plants!
Jeri it was such fun!!!! What a wonderful hostess you are. It was also so good to get to see your gardens in person. The pictures are lovely but they just don't do it justice! Don't work too hard and try to get a little rest. Hopefully your procedure on the 27th will give you renewed vim and vigor - can't imagine what you will be like with more energy!!!
Karen selecting her door prize, Linda's friend and Becky seated.
Yes Kathy Ann, I got the plants from you and the poppy looks pert so far. I think it likes all this rain. thanks so much for sending them but I had rather had you here in their place.
Sandra, We had a wonderful time but it wasn't the same without you, Ruth and Terrye. Jeri had a garden stake (which it didn't occur to me to take a photo of it) that read something like A queen gardens here and there was a bee in the top corner. It fit Ruth to a T.
I agree on the new thread!!!! Some of us have dialup b/c that is all that is offered in the Boonies. Yes there are Boonies in Tx, just like in LA. lol
There is a RU Forum that maybe someone could start a new thread on. Just a thought!
Will post pictures later of the stuff we bought at Forest Hill, Cleggats, and Paul Michael but here are a few pictures of my truck as we were getting ready to unload. We had plants stuffed in every nook and cranny and on top of each other. You can't see it very well, but the back of the cab is also stuffed with plants on the other side of the luggage and stuff stuck under the back seat as tight as we could get it! Marilyn's pot man is wrapped in the white towel on the passenger side on the floor.
There was a metal trellis that has already been taken out that was the length of the truck bed. We could only lock one side of the cover because something was keeping the right side from closing all the way down and we certainly couldn't unpack and start over!
