Been out working in the yard this morning. Got my Plum tree planted and my wild Hydrangea that I got on Wed. I'm hoping it will tolerate the transplant and bloom for me this year. Wonder what color it will be?

I'll probably take some to the round up this fall. They shouldn't be hard to get up.
Got to go back to the hospital Monday for more tests to try and find the blockages around my heart and maybe soon I'll be able to do stuff again. Seray, RRM, and I want to do a round up in Agusta Ga. in September if all works out and we will post more about it when all the details are worked out, but IF we do it, I'll be taking some stuff growing and seeds for the ones able to come. Would like to see some of the wonderful people I've met and made friends with on here.

Mekos and Nettie, you 2 both take care of yourselves! Sure hoping that you are both feeling good, and prayers are with you. Al, where are those pictures? Rained and snowed and very windy here for the last 2 days, so have gotten nothing done outside, and the forecast is for worse weather for the next 2-3 days. Obviously, I need everyone's pictures, as it may be awhile here! At least the trees are blossoming yet, so this cold freezing weather shouldn't kill our chances of fruit this year, at least not this freeze, anyway! Night all!

OH Robin, How precious! May God bless you all. They are Both adorable! What a blessing!
It's ok Al, I just kinda get lost when I'm not on much and lose what thread we are on so was just wondering if I was lost. Take your time. Hope you are rested from the trip some.
Skellogg, how much longer does your winter last? I'm so sorry about your snow.(;0) but cheer up you still have time to put snowballs in the freezer and use them in the summer when someone urks you. Let em have it. I do this.I been planning a trip to Ga for RRM. I got snowballs with her name right on them.(Now Charlene, you know I wouldn't really do that! Don't ya?) But you get the idea?!?
Nettie, I sowed seeds last fall and got some tiny babie seedlings. May bring them to the round-up in Sept. They probably won't bloom in my lifetime. We'll see. Here is one I got growing.

Those are 2 precious children Robin...

Those are 2 precious irises Mekos hehe This is iris "before the storm"

Im glad my irises are back close to the house and not near the road.. stupid sucker working for the county came thru driving truck spraying round up in swirling winds of about 20 mph on the 29th(Thur) didnt spray my yard but sprayed the other side of the road like the wind wasnt gonna carry it.. By the time I realized what he was doing and ran up there it was to late he had already sprayed...I shook my finger at him (guess which one) and gave him a few choice words...

I pull the center petals open to see inside of mine but it looks just like that. I'll have to remember the name... yea right! me remember anything?!? I have several of those. All are starting to bloom now for the first time.

So sorry about the spraying out there. They came here a year or two ago and sprayed mine and killed my cedar tree and azaleas under it and it was waaaay down in my yard, not on road property. I had a few choice words for them too but nothing I could do. I cut them down and planted more azaleas but not another cedar tree. Now I watch for the idiots and stand out there with a camera when they come by and they leave me alone.

Huney, sure hope those idiots spraying didn't hurt everything! I would definately rattle some cages there. That judge would not want to see me coming. Mekos, spring will be here in May, I hope! And it's May 1st now, so hopefully, after Mother's Day, I can get serious about spring, although, I have been known to wait until after Memorial Day, just to be safe! Can't wait to see all your pictures Al. I have family in Scottsdale, and love to visit. It is so different than what we have here! So much fun to see all the variety of plants and trees! Huney, when you trim that wisteria bush, save me some cuttings if you can. Would love to try to get some here! lol
Thanks, RRM! Will keep an eye out for them! Woohoo! Finally quit snowing, now if the wind will just quit too! I'm going to throw out more grass seed tomorrow, one way or the other, so it better not be blowing too hard. Don't feel like seeding the neighbors yard, especially since they don't even live there.

Nettie, I had a couple vines real hard to find and mid winter my power went off at night and killed most of my tropical plants in the greenhouse. It was in the teens all that week. I was heart broken. Not going to replace most of them but a couple vines and have been looking for a Amorphophallus Prainii for a real long time and no one had one of those either. BUT I have the stictocardia vine and seeds coming next week and got the Amorph. P. coming next week and found the Schisandra Rubriflora vine and waiting for them to tell me if it is available. If it is, I'll have it too. That was all I wanted. My dreams came true so far.
No got to go back Monday to hospital for another test on my heart to find the blockages. That not better but the other is good news.
How you doing now, Nettie? Feeling better?

They are pretty rare and with the harsh winter most everyone lost theirs so no one had any. I'm in heaven early. Good night all. Got to go to bed. Baby will be up before you know it for a bottle and changing. Adrien has an upper respiratory infection and guess who has little Kaylee? She already thinks she is mine. She laughed at me today. First big laugh. I tickled her and she laughed. She is getting so big. Well, back tomorrow.

I had just popped back here to ask if anyone had any to trade with me. I have seeds of the blue ones waiting to see it they are going to sprout for me or not. I can get cuttings from my sister of her green one or maybe even rooted ones since she just told me she needs to divide hers.

Marti, you can layer them or put in water and root them. I've done it both ways and seems to be fine either way. If you layer, just scratch a place on the stem going to touch the ground and get the dirt loose and put it down and add a rock on top. Leave it alone for a few months and this fall you will have a rooted piece and all you do is break the stem. If you want to root in water, place a cutting in a glass jar in a window with bright light and if you want add some root hormone.

Mindy my pink ones are just putting out green so will be a while yet before I can pull some pieces but happy to when I can. I have blue also and if you put a few pennys around the stem of the plant it will turn purple. I've done that and made mine purple too. I did have a blood red one but it didn't make it through winter, but we have a local jockey lot /flea market and they sell them there rooted for 3.00 so will pick up some this summer.

Take it anytime you want. I have done it anytime and get the same results. You can also put a stem in the dirt and root it if you keep it wet enough till it gets roots and shaded. I mostly use the older stems but several times I used the new stems that broke off as I moved them or worked around them and they root as well.

Sometimes Marti it is best to have a pot of soil and cut off several pieces and put it into the pot and wait for it to root. They don't take to water very well. Have to keep changing it, it gets sour. You can dip it in rooting hormone too.

OK you guys, I need some help. I have a headboard across my pond and it is about 6 feet or more across. I want to find something to plant in it to hide the box and maybe hang over toward the pond water. I want lots of color and green. Last year I had cypress vines, MG vines, pentas, and a yellow 4'oclock at the end. But it just wasn't pretty. I also had a couple ground orchids too but those died in the greenhouse disaster a while back. I don't need anyone to send plants , I have many and can get what I need around here when I decide what to use, just want some ideas as to what would fill the box and be pretty. I'm thinking maybe some pitcher plants but the only problem the box is wood and the water would run out and was going to fill in around the pitcher plants with the parrot feather you see growing in the water now.
There are water lilies and other pond plants growing in the pond with my baby koi fish.
This is my small pond. Any ideas? I do have the stictocardia vine coming soon. ?????
But it didn't grow fast this past year for me so probably wouldn't be enough alone.
Edited to correct spelling.

Line the box with heavy pond liner plastic and then you can put your CP's in there. Or if it's shady fill it with ferns and/or caladiums. You'll have green and color and you can take the bulbs up before frost.

It's hard to grow from seeds, because they HAVE to be fresh. The last one I grew took me dozens of seeds and about a year to get 1 baby vine.( seeds are expensive) I found seeds on e-bay back then but not any there now.
They can't ship to here from the UK and I can't find anyone here that will turn lose of one.
Thanks Nettie. I've e-mailed everyone that I was able to find who had them but all out and most out permanently. Well, IF anyone finds me a vine, I'll definately reward them good!
Yes, Seray, that is what I thought on the caladiums, and I really want some colorful blooms growing UP and some greenery growing down toward the pond area. I'll keep racking my brain. Thanks everyone! You are a great bunch of peeps.

Mekos, did you try Greer Gardens? Their website says it is new for them this year, and sells for 29.95 for a 2 gallon size. I didn't talk with them, so don't know if they are out of stock or not. Their toll free number is 800-548-0111. I'll keep searching, just in case, tho.

I e-mailed them a bout Friday or saturday and got an e-mail saying they don't have it. I wanted it. If you can get them to say they got one, I'll take it. Maybe they didn't understand what I was looking for. I tried to call them but got no answer and don't know where they are located. So don't know what time of day or night it is for them. I do have a friend in the UK, but not sure how you would get one into the US either, or how it would make the trip, if they could send one. But, I'll keep searching for you. I spoke to someone in the UK and they said IF they had one it would cost over $400.00 just to ship it to me here. So even though it would be hard to do, I'd have to say NO THANK YOU. Thank you for all the compliments!! He is beautiful, he had a little snag looks like pneumonia, then maybe not they dont know but he looks fine to me. They are taking him off iv's today at least another day in the hospital.
Jan is this the vine you are looking for? I just want to be sure I am keeping my eye open for the right one. I spent last summer if you recall looking for Florida Orchids in Maine trees I still find none but dont give up maybe this year and I will add this to the hunt if this is the right one.
Where is Mit , we are going to have to get a Mits Iris Coop going , I have seen at least five I dont think I can do with out...

Mekos - Janice my dear friend - remember I know NOTHING! What about Million Bells - Calibrachoa? Talk about adding a splash of color - and they are kinda whispy - would drape over the front of your box.

Ok, on to deal with my day. I swear if my son causes me any trouble today he is on the first bus to a state none of you live in! I wouldn't want you to have to accidentally encounter him! Lord that boy is a mess - there is nothing left to do but pray for him. Maybe if we had a national day of prayer for the child it would help - and then again...

Hahaha LOL- Good morning all. Thanks all of you for helping me find the plant and I think this time we may have it after all. Brandy, one of my little friends in Florida found another place in Oregon that says they have it for 19.99 and I just ordered it with instructions to notify me NOW if it is available to be delivered now. I'm waiting for a confirmation to stop looking. I got to have it. (guess Brandy gets the Duck Orchid bulb if this pans out).
But now Arejay, it was fun looking for the orchid, wasn't it, and I did get one, however it almost bit the dust over winter but is starting to show a tad of green in one place so hoping it made it. I lost 6-8 orchids over winter in the greenhouse. Not sure what will make it or not. I'm not going to try to replace them though so don't have to get a crooked neck again from looking UP.LOL
You guys have a GREAT day.

Hi Marti, I'd be happy to share with all my friends here. Hopefully it will grow good and I'll snip cuttings as I can and mail. Got you on the top of the list. They are the hardest thing to grow from seeds though. You have to have fresh seeds and sow bunches and get 1 vine??? not too fertile. Gives big headaches trying to get a vine and then let it freeze out the first winter when it is suppose to be winter hardy here. Kicking myself.

When we bought this place, I sowed grass seeds every spring and fall and just got weeds. It either washes off with the rains or dries up with the hot sun. So after 5 years of sowing, I gave up and kept the green weeds. It beats red georgia clay dirt-MUD on your feet every step outside.

LOL! Shouldn't freeze, RRM, cuz we are at about 40, but man, what a wind! Blowing hard again, constant 30-40 miles per hour, with stronger gusts! YUCK! Good thing we have strong clay dirt too, being hard clay probably keeps the plants from blowing away! Too cheap to buy sod, and there was kinda grass here when we bought the place, so just keep adding more seed and hoping someday I'll have lawn where I want it! Gotta add lots of manure too, of course, and the really bad areas I'm just putting in flower beds and such! lol North Pole, funny, RRM!! LOL But my iris will be blooming long after yours are all done! I just pretend not to let the cold and short growing season bother me, and just keep zone pushing. The tag on them say they are cuphea ilavea, but I don't think they are the same ones you guys were putting in your goth beds are they? I had them give me a tag from them, it says "Kids will love the funny, dark purple faces and electric orange-red ears of the cuphea! Grow a mass of this plant near a window where you can enjoy watching the hummingbirds feast on the almost endless supply of nectar that it produces. This fast grower is very heat tolerant with free flowering blooms that flit above wiry, sticky, hairy foliage. Plant this summer loong bloomer in mixed containers, hanging baskets, or wherever you desire hot, bright splashes of color. Overwinter as a houseplant in a sunny window and it may continue to bloom all winter. Pinch back the stem tips to maintain a dense, compact shape. plant in full sun to llight shade in moist well drained soil. Feed with a slow release or liquid fertilizer as directed. Height 12" -14", width 12"-14". Anybody want me to pick one up for you? Are they the same ones you all wanted in your goth gardens?

And can't they at least call it a "Spring Storm Watch" even if they are forecasting snow? At least I'd feel better then. LOL Sure hope that doesn't mean those of you who have been getting all the rain won't be getting 6 inches more rain. My heavens, not what you need!

So sorry Skellogg. I know you want spring. We need to switch places for winter. I go there till spring and you come here till spring. Then we trade back. I could like all that snow. Then come home to my georgeous flower blooms. Have a great day everyone. Drink lots of hot chocolate and roast some marshmellows, Skellogg. Throw in a few cheetos and you'd be ok for a while. LOL

Arghh! I'm going to need a greenhouse! Anybody have the winning lottery numbers? I am being over run inside the house with plants that need to go in the ground! But hate to put them out now, with this forecast, so even have the hardy ones inside, even the peach irises. Everything is just getting potted up inside. LOL! Maybe I'll just fill the living room floor with good dirt and plant everything in the living room. We don't use it much anyway! lol

Didn't realize you only have bumblebees! Interesting. My DM just called me, and she is very mad! Seems her cat woke her up at 4 am today by jumping on her bed and promptly turning a mouse loose on her pillow! lol Of course, Mom immediately jumped out of bed, turned on the light, yelling and screaming at the poor cat. But alas, the mouse was no where to be found by then. LOL! Lost in her bed or bedroom somewhere, no doubt hiding from her and the mean cat. No more sleeping in that room or bed. DM turns 81 this year, and has now called all 4 of us kids and wants us all to come to her house and find and kill the mouse. SOON!!!

I could do without bumble bees, they just bore holes in all my wood and hover all over us when we go out and I don't like the stinkers. They take over my bird houses and run off the birds. Last year I had to tear down 3 bird houses and wash out all the honey they made and clean it up for my blue birds and then the birds wouldn't use them any more. The bees ruined their nests. I'm not happy with them right now at all. We do have honeybees and yellow jackets and hornets-yellow japanese hornets and some black hornets and such. Oh man, the pesky horse flies have begun already. Got me 2 times yesterday on my arms. They got a black lacey wing. They hurt too.

All of us kids just laughed and laughed. What a good kitty! lol The cat will find it, sometime, tho. So guess DM will just stay in the guest room until then. LOL!
We have yellow jackets, hornets, and deer flies, and horse flies, wasps, etc. Those buggers do hurt when they bite! But the ground hornets are really mean, especially in the fall when the weather starts turning colder. So far this year the only bees I've seen are honey bees on my hyacinths, that were starting to bloom. This freeze will probably stop that tho. But, the cherry trees and lilacs haven't leafed out yet, so they will be back then. We don't have the bees chasing off the birds, tho, thank heavens! Nasty buggers! I don't like any of them, even tho I know it's necessary to have them. If it can bite me, I don't like them! But, I'm not prejudiced, I don't really like any bugs much and really hate spiders! YUCK!!

When I see a purpose for an insect, I can understand the reason for having them but what on earth could the purpose for bumblebees and hornets be? Birds don't eat them, they too big and mean. The winters are not bad enough here to freeze anything out and if it's rainy in spring, they ALL swarm in with a vengence. I need rambos number.

But this is just beautiful. Be still my heart! We gonna have to work a trade of places for winter and spring, Skellogg. I like your spring.

Well, I never had anything that looks like this one. It came up volunteer a couple years ago and just keeps coming back. We get floods around here and seeds could have washed from other neighbors or birds dropped from the neighbors gardens but I never had any. Next package I send out will be to RRM and I'll try to remember to include one for the road. Then you can see close up. It is pretty.

Oh now girls - never fear, I am right here. Of course I had to laugh at the mental image of you two out sniffing blooms in your football helments. Actually, my image was more of one of you bent over with the other stuck in your butt - next person to come along sniffing, stuck in the next butt. I have a very long line of women bent over ...well, I think you get the picture. That would make a great cartoon! LOL

So, what are we stealing now Mekos? Irises from Mitt?? I'm in!! I have lots and lots of black - and we could paint or faces and hands, wear dark glasses - they would never see us coming. However, there can be no drinking of the Mojitos before we go - I refuse to go to jail because we were laughing while stealing irises!!! Iris stealing is serious business and must be done in silence.

You guys stay out of trouble, I have to go feed the baby - he is into the dog food again - guess I should supplement with a little human food.

Mitt one of these days I'm going to have lots of iris blooming like you do. Mine are showing up one or two at a time still have about half of my bed to go yet. Shared some of yours with my sister on condition I get them back from her when they are big enough to divide. She fell in love with the Rides the Wind one and since she's had alot of health issues the last few years I was nice and let her have it and a few more.

Soon as the sun drops down a little more so it's not so bright outside I'll take pictures of the newest ones. I think one of them may be the one my mom bought me a long long time ago that I moved out here last year.

Well I'm off to check on Cue and my family at FB then off for the night.

I can see me in jail now and the newspaper reads, OLD bat from SC, jailed for Iris napping. OH the shame of it all. You too little buddy. Love you. My Mom will be 86 this august and Daddy passed on a few years ago. Once a month I have a florist send Mom flowers. She loved to garden but can't any more and has alzheimers and can't remember me in person but knows she has a daughter named Janice so when she gets her flowers,She calls everyone she knows a dozen times over, to tell them about her pretty flowers. Then they all call me to tell me how much she loved them and how many times she called them to tell them. Haha She don't remember telling them and does it over and over. Gotta love the Moms.

Ok Mitt, I sympathize with the wind issue! We have lots of wind here in Oklahoma - guess I will leave your irises alone for this year - you have enough trouble with Mother Nature - don't need me tromping around in your beds.

Hope all you ladies have a wonderful Mothers Day! May it be filled with love and beauty!!

Happy Mother's Day, ladies! Hope you all have a great day! DH and I are going to spend the day with our Moms and help them with a few little tasks they want done. Fortunately, they both live close, so we get to visit and see them easily. I got my present yesterday, as I got to babysit the wonderful grandbabies! Getting to spend the day with grandbabies is the best present ever!

Happy Mother's day everyone!
Hey Mitt, I love them all but these last ones are not as good as the other ones I pointed out was the BEST! Those you better keep under lock and key. You never know when a big bird might swoop in and get some.( Especially after a mojito binge.)
I've never seen so many beautiful plants from all you gardeners. I never met an Iris I didn't like either so go figure.
Hope you having a better day today Little Nettie.
It is sunny and cool here. Suppose to be around 70 by evening time and no winds, just georgeous! I'm spending the day with my little angel and Husband. Kids came yesterday and brought me flowers and bulbs and a water fountain for the table top. And this morning I got a message from the kids with a picture of a rose and music playing telling me they loved me. So I got the best day ever. I'm just thanking God and counting my blessings. Love to you all.

Lots of ways Marti. It is easy. Use peat moss or Spag.moss or both and add water from the rain if you are useing CPs or Sundews, the chemicals in regular water will kill them. Then add the plants like venus fly traps ,pitcher plants, sundews and so on. Lots of different kinds of plants to go in them. The bog garden can be any size you want. Make sure the plants are cold hardy for your zone and you can leave it out all winter but if not hardy bring in to back room or garage or greenhouse.

Well, you know other plants do grow in bog gardens as well so they can also be included. Like EEs and cana lilies, and japanese iris and paruvian daffodils and such. Anything that likes to grow in a bog can be added but the main part must be peat moss and Spag.moss and CPs. It will be judged on appearance like decoration, presentation, over all appearance and how well the plants look.( Living or dead.) Preferably living!

It is just a styrofoam one with clear windows on top and can hold about 2-3 dozen eggs, depending on how big the eggs. It costs about 50.00 for the you turn eggs yourself or 120.00 for it does all the work for you. I only used it once before in 2 years so I got the cheap one you turn yourself. Couldn't justify the automatic at higher cost for one or two times use. I use it more for hatching flower seeds-tropical ones that need warmer temps. Hehehaha I hatched all kind of seeds so far.

How funny - I promise you if I covered my rhizomes in mulch they would rot. I have a little trouble with rotting as it is - most of mine are exposed to direct sunlight too - don't bury them deep enough to cover completely or they would rot for sure. There are a couple of them that heaved over the winter and are sitting on top of the soil - they are rooted down so figure I best leave them alone - they seem happy where they are.

Look- my rescued Josephs Coat is gonna bloom - Yippee - see, I don't kill everything!! Don't look at my black spots - I am treating those with fungicide as we speak. Rained about 3 inches here last night so am fighting a losing battle right now.

Can anyone help me? Does anyone know of a plant with a name like Chindoxa? Or maybe Achindoxa? That is how the lady pronounced it anyway. It is a perennial, and is in bloom in zone 4 or 5 now. My niece saw it growing yesterday, asked the lady what it was, and that's how the lady pronounced it, so have no idea how it is really spelled. Any ideas?

Thank you Loca. It is about 2&1/2 feet tall. Couldn't get it all in the picture unless I stepped back more and figured the light wouldn't be good and it would come out too dark. Has 2 stems going up. I'm excited. And It was only $19.99. They sent me a catalog too to buy from. They have some nice plants in there and really good prices.

I'll probably stare it to death, It and the stictocardia vine.
I had a tiny piece of the Lotus parrots beak that sprouted up from the roots and it sure is looking good too. It is either Sierra sunset or golden flash one. Not sure, had both in the same pot. But I'm verry happy right now.

That is AMAZON SUNSET not sierra sunset- duh!
