They are sore, the swelling has gone down in my lip but the cuts are very tender and I have to be careful what I eat. We did try to catch her to take her to the vet but it ended up in total disaster!! Kim and I both ended up with more scratches and she is huddled in the laundry room. We have been told to leave her along and I should come in next week to get some type of tranquilizer to help.

Doing some research I found this is occur in cats that were injured or abused as a kitten and she was by her previous owners. Only after we see the vet will we know what happens next. In the meantime, we are trying to avoid being near her. This is tearing my heart out but I must deal with it.

Hi LK, Yes it has been awhile, but I have been around. Having to go to lot's of Doctors, (Ray & Me)
Working constantly in the yard. So many pretty blooms now. My yellow Iris are beautiful. Had a yard sale last week end and sold plants along with other things. Have been to my Daughters 3 days this week helping her paint. Grand Daughter is getting married 0n the 22. Goodness, most times when I come to the puter at night, I'm so tired that I only try to read just to keep up with what's going on.
Love to all. Tomorrow is Sunday, let's go to church!

Good morning ladies!
Welcome Ptilda!! I hope you make this an annual swap!

Yayyy.. Thunder made it!! And so did Cindy, Faye and Jax!!

Marilyn, I understand your predicament. We got to choose our swaps wisely, if not postage can get you! But, you have a very good reason not to turn this one down.
You and Thunder have wonderful sons that are giving their ALL for this great country. Thank you both!

Yes LK, I am sure some of us have already begun collecting for this year's swap, the minute they sent out their boxes last year!!!

Goodness Faye, a grandaughter getting married??? Didn't know you have GROWN grandchildren of the marrying age.
Hope the good Lord is taking care of you and Ray well.

Couldn't go to church today as I'm having problems with the back. Kel went by himself, and I'm sure he's having real peace at church!!

Jaye, I'm so sorry you have back problems. I am ok but ray is having a very hard time with his back and his right foot. Ray will have surgery on his foot Fri. They will fuse 5 bones together and cut some bone out. He will not be able to put any weight on that foot for at least 2 months and the healing time is about 1 yr. Doctors said that surgery was the only thing left to try. Ray was told that he could expect 50 to 75 % improvement but his foot would always hurt.
Jaye, what types of needle work do you do?
Hello and love to all.

Hello ladies!!!
Thunder I can feel the pride in your posting. Another stripe for your son shows he has very commendable work ethics. We too can somewhat share that pride, especially the ones that contribute to that patriotic blocks for him.
This is a secret swap, and mailing will be the first week of June. So you have plenty of time to quilt me a RWB!!! Hehehehe..

Faye, I don't like any kind of surgeries, or be in hospitals. I can feel Ray's apprehensions over getting his foot worked on. Maybe the pain will lessen after he get it done. Will pray for fast healing for him.
As for needlework, I do crochet and cross stitch once upon a time!

Thanks for taking that pic, Judy! Nothing like being overseas and seeing our flag waving proudly!!

Betty, no way we can do this without you!!! Our cherished honorary citizen. Again, you'll be getting your buddy's name earlier to allow time for mailing.

Scott is doing well across the pond. Going to be a long year, but it will end as did Dale's long year. I wish this 'war' would end! I wish no mother's son (or daughter) would ever have to go over there again.

I have had four sons through the military, one is still in there and now I have a grandson also in the guard. (golly gee I am old!) older than dirt I must be! lol

My oldest will be 39, youngest to serve just turned 29 last week. He did four full time army, 1 active reserve and then re-enlisted in the guard. However, due to his VA disability, he had to give up the guard. I secretly was glad, but would never tell him that, nor any of the others.
this old heart can only take so much stress at a time. lol

My soldier's name is Colt! He's a stunning blond-haired, blue-eyed 5'7" 130 lb. hunk of pure muscle! He lost a buddy last year (friend was taking his daily jog and collasped at the tender age of 24). Two weeks ago, Colt went to spend the weekend with his buddy's parents and ran a 13-mile marathon in his friend's honor. His friend's parents have adopted Colt as their own, and that makes me proud! And Colt makes me proud because he has adopted them, too!

Morning all. I'd like to join if it's not too late.
DH & I are both retired Army. I fly the RWB at the back side of the house so the folks going up & down the main road can see it. I can see it from the FR window. My neighbor (retired Navy) flies his for me to see at the front of my house. This neighborhood is over 75% military and I get so upset that only a few of us fly the flag.

Anyway, I'll start my collecting...

They were on sale so I was able to get very nice things...only problem, what was I thinking...some of them are to big to mail. LOL, maybe this year I will have R W & B in my yard. We also have Giants Tomb...

The Ouendat (Huron) Indian Legend of Kitchikewana
If you ever get to watch a sunset from Beausoliel Island on Georgian Bay, it is a calm and tranquil experience. You would never guess that the Bay was once protected by a huge, violent giant with a temper just as big! Legend has it, that if it wasn't for the Huron God Kitchikewana, Georgian Bay would not be what it is today.

Kitchikewana was a god that was big enough to protect all of Georgian Bay. He was taller than the C.N. Tower and wore a headdress made of thousands of bird feathers. His robe was made of six-hundred beaver pelts and he also wore a tree-stump necklace.

One day, the other Huron gods noticed how angry Kitchikewana was all the time. They thought that if he had a girlfriend, she may be able to settle him down, so they gathered all of the most interesting and beautiful girls of the tribes. There was one specific girl Kitchikewana really liked a lot, and her name was Wanakita. Kitchikewana asked Wanakita if she wanted to be with him, but Wanakita did not want to be with him, much to his surprise. What Kitchikewana didn't know was that she already had a boyfriend! Wanakita was in love with one of the warriors from her own tribe. This made Kitchikewana really angry. He was so upset that he dug his fingers deep into the ground and threw the dirt in a fit of rage. The handfuls of dirt were scattered and the 30,000 Islands were created, and the five finger marks in the ground became the five bays: Midland Bay, Penetang Bay, Hog Bay, Sturgeon Bay, and Matchedash Bay. Kitchikewana, heartbroken and tired lay down at the base of the islands and fell asleep forever.

To this day, Kitchikewana still lays asleep, and you can see his gigantic form make up what people know as Giant's Tomb. During Kitchikewana's temper tantrum he also accidentally killed Wahsoona, the daughter of an Indian Chief. In her memory, silver birch was made to grow forever on Beausoliel Island. So if you ever visit Beausoliel Island, think twice when you come across the silver birch trees. Also look to the west, and you will see the once loud and angry Giant Kitchikewana sleep silently at Giant's Tomb.

Faye, here's hoping he'll heal quickly..don't men make bad patients???

Not sure why my gardens turn out the way they do, I'm a lousy gardener and not really interested in knowing their names..I'm lucky to know a tulip/rose/daisies,hydrangea, lilac and that's about it..

Excited because I have an ancient lilac tree, deep purple, double bloom and it looks as they they might be open for the weekend...

I'd hate to show you my indoor plants, they rarely come into the house that they die...fake is the order of the day...started to laugh, all fake food and fake plants in this house..something is wrong with this picture right..thank goodness I love eating in restaurants...

Trying to decide, do I want to start cleaning and organizing for my workshop tonight or do I want to go to bed, get up extra early and do it???

Enjoy your evening everyone..

Thank you Jaye, Susan and Betty. Ray is a real trooper. He is trying so hard and is doing a great job of being patient. It will be a long recovery, but God willing, the surgery will be worth all the adjustments.
Susan, Ray is saying that I'm going to the RU. Will just have to wait and see.

This is close now to new participants.

You all should get your names by now. You can start mailing a week from now, except for the ones having to use international post.
Dateline is June 15th. Still plenty of time to find or make that special RWB.

I know you'll be proud of what you're sending. Love for this country runs deep in our hearts.

Julie, I'm sending you TWO BOXES...

I HAVE IN MY HANDS TWO BOXES,
Which God gave me to hold
He said, "Put all your sorrows in the black box,
And all your joys in the gold!

I heeded HIS words, and in the two boxes,
Both my joys and sorrows I stored.
But though the gold became heavier each day,
The Black was as light as before.

With curiosity, I opned the black.
I wanted to find out why?
I saw in the base of the box, a hold..
Which my sorrows had fallend out by.

I showed the hole to God and mused,
"I wonder where my sorrows could be?"
He smiled a gentle smile and said,
"My child of course they're all here with me..."

I asked God why HE gave me the boxes,
Why the gold and the black with the hole?
"My child, the gold is for you to count your blessings, the black is for you to let go!"

Sending you Julie the same 2 boxes I received when things weren't going well...

We should consider all of our friends a blessing. Let them know you are thinking of them and that they are a joy in your life..I'm taking time to do so now..

A ball is a circle, no beginning and no end.
It keeps us together like our Circle of DG Friends.
But the treasure inside for you to see,
Is the treasure of friendship you've granted me...
Today I pass the friendship ball to you..

Pass it on to someone who is a friend to you..

Night everyone..

We are here for you, and if you wish to talk I'll dmail you my phone number. I promise to make you laugh!!

Thunder, I bet you get questions about those ribbons. Nothing like a tangible reminder that our troops need to encounter a peaceful period where none will be sent out for combat duty.

Yes, I got questions...I also wore a picture of my darling soldier boy, and now I still have people asking me about him, and How he is doing...!!! people do care if you give them a chance!!! I get so very upset when I hear someone say "it has become a cruel and cold world--no one cares about any one any more" I have two little stories I tell

One is how people would stop in front of my yard and ask me about my ribbons, and tell me they would pray for my son and all of the soldiers...

and the other is the story of a group of woman I have never met, who sent me a bunch of beautiful quilt squares in Red, White, and Blue, so that I could make a quilt for my darling son "soldier boy"

don't ever believe it if you hear people don't care!!!! they just sometimes need little reminders...(like ribbons on a fence) I truly believe more people care, than don't!!!!

You give me the good chills when I read that Thunder.

How can we ever ever forget that we're able to walk down the roads without looking over our shoulders, or feel completely relax at home without fear of stray bullets, or have the little ones able to continue to go to school safely...our freedom...thanks to our soldiers.

Whenever we see a soldier in uniform, at a restaurant, Kel would pick up his tab. We can't give our lives, but we can give our thanks in that way, besides prayers.

You are right Thunder. The media doesn't lie when showing so many do care. I am so proud of my church that always put prayers for our heroes first.

Yes, people do care!! Thursday I was at Joanne's and a lady was buying R,W&B fabric. As usual the clerk asked what she was making and her reply was: Some friends of mine from Church are making quilt squares to be made into quilts for our soldiers. Appears this friend read about this on the web and mentioned it to the group. So another group was formed. Even funnier, the girl who was cutting my fabric and who I have gotten to know fairly well since moving here, chiming it to tell her if she wasn't mistaken I had/was doing the same thing. Very small world. The other lady and I chatted for a bit exchanges ways our different groups worked. Made me feel really connected!!! Ours has had a more personal touch in that we have know some of the people.

Kyle, my 14 year old grandson who is in Cadets spent Sat. & Sun. at Base Borden..got to ride in a fighting hellicopter on Saturday..spent the evening with me, sent him over to get 'eats' from local restaurant as he, Noah and I all wanted something different..he was still in uniform, I man commented on how wonderful it is to see youth put their time to 'good' rather than hanging around on the street getting into mischief..asked Kyle what he was going to eat and told the restaurant keeper the meal was on him...Kyle was just thrilled with it all...

Yesterday he spent time 'glidding'

Ohhh couldn't find a box that would accommodate what I was sending to my RWB swap partner so managed to get it wrapped, taped with a roll of tape, some of you know how tape crazy I get, lol..soooo if you receive a package from me, PLEASE/PLEASE carefully slit the paper & tape and not what's included...it's on it's way!!!

Betty, thank you so much for the boxes! My sorrows overwhelm me sometimes. I missed so many days of work that I won't have much of a check this month. I have asked fellow employees for donated days, but so far I haven't received any. So, please say a special prayer that God will touch the heart of those who can help me.

Colt will deploy for the fourth time in June. He is special ops, so he will only be there a couple of months. But I worry about him no matter where he is! I'm not going to have the money to visit him before he deploys, but he knows that I would be there to see him if I could. I'm so proud of him! He just spent a week in Vegas doing some type of training. He stayed in the Luxor Hotel. He went out on the town Saturday night- and he had a good time!

Thank you all for your prayers and comfort. I am putting my fence up this weekend and I will start buying the spools of ribbon. I will hang one every day he is gone. My flag will also be on the fence. So, maybe someone else will see the fence and remember that we have many who are keeping us protected and free!

Sis Kathy.. you're too quick!!

Betty, Kyle looks so smart in his uniform. Tell him please that we are so proud of him.

I don't know whether this is done with Canadian youths, but I know it's done in Israel and Iran when the kids hit 18, I think.
Well, in Singapore, when the boys finished secondary school, equivalent to grade 10 (they crammed 12 years of school into 10)... if they're not persuing further studies, they are then drafted into the National Service for 2 years which is different from the Military or Defence force.
They undergo full military training to keep them off the streets. They are also made to patrol the streets in pairs. This of course keeps crime low.
Then when they completed their service, they will have to take a yearly 'refresher' course which lasts 2 weeks, until they turn 40.
Parents' whose kids are either living or studying overseas will have to pay the govt. a 'fine' if the kids failed to register with the NS when they turn 16 or when they completed their schooling .
I know of one parent whose child insisted on staying behind in Italy. She couldn't afford the $80,000 and gave him a one way ticket home!

Julie, surrender all your worries to the Lord. Let Him do His best for you and Colt.
Ck. your dmail.

I feel so privileged to have all of you sharing my love for this adopted country... and I still keep finding stuffs for my buddy!!

Two years ago when Colt deployed, I could not find any yellow ribbons anywhere. So, I was walking through the garden department at Walmart and noticed Colt's favorite flower- marigolds. So, I bought a bunch of YELLOW marigolds and planted them. I save the seeds from year to year and replant them. Yellow marigolds for all our troops!

If she doesn't retire, she will be gone agin in 6 months. She also did assignments in Bosnia/Croatia. I don't know how she does it.
