Three years ago I planted 2 4-5' multi-stem Eastern Redbuds in a sunny location. They are mulched with wood chips and have grown considerably. I have pruned them in the early spring. However, each year they have not had blossoms on all the limbs as most Redbuds do. This year they were especially barren of blossoms. Could this be an indication they need fertilizer? Other causes?
Since I'm not near WI, it is hard to say. However, I would not prune the Redbuds in early spring. It might have stressed the plant and the few buds that the young plants may have had, might have been cut out.
Sunny is good.
Do they leaf out nicely each year?
