A wonderful book that I've recommended to my students for many years is Plant Identification Terminology :An Illustrated Glossary by James G. Harris and Melinda Woolf Harris. This book shows you VERY clear botanical drawings of the various parts of the plant and allows you to describe an unknown plant in finer and finer detail until you zero in on what it has to be. Although I have a number of different field guides, this is the one book I wouldn't want to do without. I stopped teaching for the last 5 years but I just checked on line and it's still available, either from the publisher , Spring Lake Publishing, or on Amazon. (It was first published in 1994.)
