large blue leaf, small blue leaf, small green/white,
Plus several that have lost name tags! As I remember the names, I will edit my list.
Please count me in this year! I'm so excited to participate in my first hosta swap!
ETA, these hostas are currently in my garden:
Antioch (trade ready)
fortunei Aureomarginata (trade ready)
Francee (trade ready)
Frances Williams (trade ready)
Gold Standard (trade ready)
Golden Tiara (trade ready)

Hyacinthina (trade ready)
Iniswood (trade ready)
Maraschino Cherry (trade ready)

Undulata Univitatta (trade ready)
I would absolutely love any hosta but covet Liberty, Enterprise, and any small hosta on my Davesgarden want list. Oh yeah, I'm also really loving yellows this year.
In! I feel bad I do not have many of the "up to date" hostas in my garden. I can only send what I have we are money strapped and hope who ever I send to like my choices. I will be happy to get anything, have always enjoyed the hostas I recieved from this swap! Beautiful and heathy. Thanks ZZ! Have a great day everyone... Ronna
This was so much fun last year and i got such a nice assortment. Just love that I received Quilting Bee, and that it made it through our horrible New York winter. Please count me in. My lovely assortment from last year's swap
Mittsy, that photo had me drooling! I got Quilting Bee in a trade last year, and it was immediately a favorite.
I was reading the thread about giants, and I'm thinking I have about 2 more years before the front garden needs to be completely re-arranged, or it will be one mass of hostas! Not that it would be a bad thing! But that gives me a bit longer to test anti-deer methods. I'm considering planting mints & thyme right under the giants. Since they come up before my hostas, maybe their presence would keep the deer away from the tender shoots. And since they would be in their own little spot under the oaks, I don't really need to worry about the herbs taking over (blacktop on one side & gravel roads & driveways on the other 3).
Here is my list of haves.
My wants are
any that I don't have thanks. BEV
Blue Mouse Ears
Undulata Alba Marginata
Fire and Ice
Sum & Substance
Think that's all...geesh...
Here are a few from my wish list, but no matter what I get, I will love it!
Sum it Up
The Razer's Edge
This is my first year that I have hostas that have gotten big enough to divide. I am so excited!
Not all of these are big enough to dig and divide yet, but I will do my absolute best.
Here is my list of haves:
A Many SplendoredThing
Abiqua Drinking Gourd
Arc de Triomphe
Clifford's Forest Fire
Dance with Me
Key Lime Pie
Kiwi Full Monty
Lakeside Beach Captain
Lakeside Legal Tender
Lakeside Shore Master
Landfall (NR - Rick Sawyer)
Made you Look
Pineapple Upside Down Cake
Queen of the Seas
Singing in the Rain
Sum and Substance
Sweet Home Chicago
Zippity Do Dah
...Plus some of the most beatiful old giant blue NOIDs I have ever seen. I wouldn't include these unless you specifically told me you wanted one.
I would love, love, love a Komodo dragon or anything mini. Well, I love them all. Doesn't matter what you send, really. It will get a good home...
Editing to add another to the wish list: Night before Christmas or Undulata Univittata
Count me in! I was not going to participate this year, we are building a house and will have to move all our plants. However, I was in the garden over the weekend and the hosta's that are the biggest and look the best all came from this swap! Plus this may give me a reason to puchase a few new plants to swap!
Hosta's I have:
Birchwood Parky's Gold
Lakeside Beach Captain
Lakeside Down Sized
St. Elmo's Fire
Sum & Substance
Joycet: This is only my third year as a hosta-addict (I started collecting in 2007). My gardens look better this year than last, and I spent a big part of the spring moving stuff around. There is still so much to move around and just not enough time. Don't be impressed by the list - my gardens are nowhere as beautiful as some of the folks that post on this site. Maybe in time...
"The Wu" (as my husband calls her) was pitiful for the first two years - one lone leaf. This year, however it has probably tripled in eyes and is finally starting to look like it might be a giant. I have it in too shady a spot I think, but I don't have anywhere else to put it where it will be in back of other hostas. Now that all my spring work is about done, I am thinking about digging a new bed and moving it there...maybe.
I'm in. This will be my first official swap to participate in.
For a list of my "have's" - please click on my name and go to my journal. I love them all, so any that I do not have would be fine for me - except mini's. Seems the voles like them the best in my yard.
Well, I just love new beds!!! So go for it! I just saw the picture of Empress Wu as a mature plant this year and all I can say is WOWSERS! That thing is a monster! So for you, it really was sleep, creep and leap!!
Hopefully you are right joycet, but if we get someone's name that has more than we do, we may have to do a "purchase" to get something that they don't have. lol. (just browsing "maozamom's journal) - whose journal looks very similar to mine.lol.
(one who is always looking for a "reason" to buy more hostas!)
I would like to join in!! Will post my hostas tonight.
Baby Bunting (new baby plant 5/2010)
Blue Cadet (new baby plant 5/2010)
Blue Mouse Ears
Fire and Ice
Funkia "lancifolia" (new baby plant 5/2010)
Noid Huge green leaves.
Sweet Home Chicago
I'll be watching this trade happen but won't be involved this year. I just have too much already to do in my gardens and since I can only move at a snail's pace I figured I better just sit this one out.
I did not participate last year so I am definitely ready for it this year.
Please sign me up Lelan.
I don't have a list - I never met a hosta I did not like. This year I am partial to yellows, blues and I always love the streakers. I would love Liberty and Revolution which bit the dust for me after several years.
Okay, I made a list which I am sure is not complete but here goes:
Blue Mouse ears
Emerald Ruff Cut
Fire and Ice
Fortunei Alba Picta
Fried Green Tomatoes
Ice Age Trail
Iron Gate Dellight
Lakeside Black Satin
Lakeside Blue Jeans
Lakeside Cindy Cee
Lakeside Coal Miner
Lakeside Cranberry Relish
Lakeside Dot Com
Lakeside Hula Hoop
Lakeside Looking Glass
Lakeside Love Affair
Lakeside Party Dress
Lakeside Sapphire Pleatls
Lakeside Surf Rider
Night Before Christmas
Roller Coaster Ride
Silver Threads and Golden Needles
Streaking in Nebraska
Sum and Substance
Touch of Class
Yellow Splash Rim
Ready for swapping some hostas! I was going to just leave everything alone this year, BUT can not resist doing at least One trade.
I have lots and love them all but would be partial to receiving yellows or mini/small ones. No room for LARGE ONES! LOL
That should leave this swapper nothing but surprises!
Thanks for hosting once again ZZ, I have sent you a Dmail.
I have the most beautiful hosta garden only due to the swaps. I love them. Course it is always a reason for me to buy a new hosta and divide between me and my swap person...excuses excuses...LOL Well I want to make sure they get the kind they want...LOL
We went from 50 to 90 in 2 days, course we are suppose to cool o in the 80's next week.
n2birds, if we mail to a warmer zone is there a better way to send to you all?
In the winter I received plants that were put in insulated wrap to keep warm would that help for cool?
Weeding: WOW. And I thought I was out of control! That list is amazing. How is your revolution doing? Mine is just pitiful. I had high hopes for it this year - but it's still just a tiny pipsqueak. You have so many with names I don't recognize. Which ones are your favorites?
I am with you all about the heat. i wish the cut off for this swap was this week so I could get these things in the mail. We are going to be in the 90's tomorrow. Hopefully it will get cooler again, though... I plan to just ensure that my paper towels are really moist when i send. I don't think you can do much more than that...Hostas are pretty forgiving...
50 -90 deg's - that is horrible !! Great question happ. I just rec'd a hosta in the mail Saturday and it was fine. As the summer gets hotter, if it were gonna travel longer, probably crossing climates would be better? Like one traveling from Souther CA to TN would probably not do well. However, hostas are pretty tough aren't they.
We honestly turned off the furnace one day and turned on the air the next day! No break for us and utilities. Really humid with all the weeks of rain we have had. The hostas were/are in 7th heaven with all the rain and cool temps. For once they weren't denied moisture from the trees. Wish I would of known the difference between shallow rooted trees and deep rooted trees when I planted mine...I am always amazed at how well the hostas do. We are suppose to cool off to 80's next week tho. I will send a gentle cooling breeze your guys way...
Well that list made my puny list look even smaller...lol I am impressed.
Ohhh, just noticed you are only about an hour and 1/2 from me,,, hummm so if you start missing any hostas,,, Ok,, I AM just kidding. That is still a bit of a drive,, but still if you ever need someone to clean out your garden I am only an d-mail away,,,hint hint,,,
OK Everybody...Signing-Up is Drawing to an End.
We are Down to the Last Few Days to Sign-Up.
If You Have NOT Sent Me Your Information...Please Do So ASAP... Names Will be Sent Out this Saturday...June 5th!
Sorry everyone, got done with finals & left the country to go help my brother in Mexico (he has a mission down there), and had some dental work done while I was there (it's unbelievably cheap there & just as good of work). Got a nasty wisdom tooth that had to be cut out & left me with a dry-socket which is still just healing... but I'll be home again this weekend & will be finishing up swaps & stuff I'm doing.
Here's my "have" list. Note, I will not be using this list for trades. The Striptease looked bad when I got them in a trade last year, and so I set them aside away from my other hostas (as I do with all my new trades), and sure enough, all the signs of HVX. So, it's going in the dumpster this week :( Since I've had these and another hosta with HVX in my garden, I don't trade hostas from my garden unless people know about it & specifically want some of mine. Of course, the Striptease were new last year & didn't get the virus from my plants, and as far as I know, I only had one other instance of it. But I don't want to take chances.
THEREFORE, all my hosta swaps will be purchases from a local, reputable nursery, and will include the receipt. :)
So, these are what I have, but not necessarily what you will get, since I'll be buying from your "want" list (or at least from the local nursery's "have" list).
Allen P. McConnell
Birchwood Parkey's Gold
Blue Mouse Ears

Fire and Ice
Heart and Soul
Ice Age Trail

If You DO NOT Post a Link or a List...Before Friday Night at Midnight...
You Will be at the Luck of the Draw as to Who You Will be Sending to.
(I Try to Make this as Simple and Easy for Everyone Involved)

sum & substance
lakeside cha cha
the razors edge
blue mouse ears
would love to have
but not picky I love all the hostas.
I will purchase a hosta to send.
I would love to participate in the swap-my list of hosta "haves" is seriously sad in comparision to many on this forum and I am not sure how the swap works but I'm willing to purchase since I have a new bed ready (any excuse, right?)
and one unknown -looking for tag
Would love to have-
Queen of the Seas
and after seeing Franknjim's picture I am obsessing over Samual Blue

I doing the hosta dance. I received a box from Weeding today. It feels like my birthday came early. She sent a wonderful group of hosta, which I've planted in the holding bed already. Thank you so much Cindy. You sent a delightful selection.

Yipeee !!!! Mine came in today. Thank you so much Cheryl (Maidoshade) ! Wonderful selection you made for me. They look like you just handed them to me instead of traveling across several states.
Love each one of them --
Glad you like them, I always have a hard time deciding what to send.
I like to use newspaper, cause it seems to keep them a little wetter. Kabuki is a cool one when it gets established, Not a fast grower but a pretty one.
And Hush Puppy is supposed to be one that you can divide again and again. A very friendly friendship plant. LOL I have had mine 2 years and have given away several starts.
You were very "generous" on your gift and I do thank you. Funny, Hush Puppy was the first one I unwrapped and loved it immediately. So glad you told me it will be a "friendship" plant as we have alot of hosta collectors here in our Mid-South group on DG.
Joyce, I am so glad you were pleased with your box. I had fun deciding what to send. I was so careful placing them in the box. The only priority box I had here was a flat rate but say what size. It looked to be the same size box you sent which said medium. I get to the post office and ask if that was a medium flat rate box. The lady said yes, but it would be much cheaper to send just priority and it was. Anyway, she told me to get another box and she and I stuffed the new box (well, she was stuffing and I was trying to be gentile. I was so worried they would arrive all broken. I am so glad they weren't or at least didn't look it in the picture.
We are at 95 today so I think mine are just going to stay in the pots for a while.
Thanks Lelan for organizing this swap again. You must think I am nuts because I did participate last year. Last year was really bad for me though so I am not surprised.
Lelan I am so glad your box got to you in fine shape!!!! SO glad you like the selection I sent. Drinking gourd is one of my absolute fave. You also will love moonbeam. I do. The other two are just some that grow really big and fast. I just love the colors on them. My drinking gourd grows pretty fast. Lelan thanks so much for the excitment I see in your posting. Makes me smile! Enjoy, enjoy. Ronna
Looky looky guys, I got the biggest darn hosta I have ever seen! It was too big for the box, a Krossa Regal and it is a beauty!
dargonfly62, Beverly I am soooo happy, I did the hosta happy dance while giving it a big drink, altho it came wrapped up perfectly and probably didn't need a drink. I tried to show how tall it was but it was getting dark and thunder was in the distance so I apologize for the bad picture, but it is truely a specimen.
Another great swap and I am so happy.
I had to lighten the picture with some really bad software so it is really bleached out but it is a beautiful hosta and I did get all the roots under water and put it in a pot for the evening until I can find a proper place in the garden.
Having fun watching the boxes come in! Mine are on the way to my buddy. Got a couple purty ones at one of my favorite local greenouses, with only the tiniest amount of frost burn (we had that very late freeze/snow that made a lot of hostas look pretty sad). Should be there by the end of the week!
Mine is late. So sorry. I have been pouring the rain here 4 a week we are flooding everywhere. I am going to send today even if I have to dig in the rain!!! Please forgive me partner. I was able to buy a couple things to make a nicer box but the hostas have to be dug. I really am trying.
happ, So glad you have gotten and it is in good shape. I was worried about it being so big. I am a little ashamed because all the rest are getting 4 or 5 hosta and I only sent you one but you could make 2 out of it. I have another bigger than that. Enjoy BEV This pic is 08
Oh Bev, I am delighted one is plenty and I love it. I want to find the right spot. I will have to take some pics cause I am getting proud of my Hosta bed and it is all because of you all and the swaps, so I want to thank you guys. I know I worry about what I send also, but honest you couldn't of made me happier...and it arrived without a dent...LOL course there was no room to move...so it worked out great.
Well I am glad you like it and am looking forward to pics. I have so many to divide. I need to start selling but the rain won't quit. Thanks to all DGrs that have helped me through trades too. You guys are the best. HUGS BEV
Bev, waht a beautiul garden! Hope you spend time setting and enjoying instead of working all the time. Course if it is raining there like it has been here you can barely go out for a minute...LOL I got so upset on Saturday I was out in my rain coat, DH was laughing at me. Course it wasn't thunder storms just rain.
I figured that much...LOl so sad isn't it. I have a beautiful glider in mine and a friend ask if I sat there and read...I sadly looked up and said no seems I am always playing in the garden...I read in the winter.
As promised (and a few days later after the rains and storms), here is a pic of my newly received and planted hostas. They are mixed in with some that I already had and some I recently purchased. Thanks again Mittsy!
Eleven, I am glad you liked it. I was trying to get the ones on your top fav list, but had to settle for your want list...LOL Glad they made it. If you don't already have tiny tears it does seem to spread pretty well for a little thing...
Just a thought - for those of us who were happy with the way this swap was handled - you may think about leaving Lelan some good feedback. I certainly think he deserves it ! I sometimes don't remember to do things like that when I should - but was really happy with this one and want him to be recognized for it.
n2birds, do you leave the feedback at the same place you do if you swap or trade individually? Guess I never thought of leaving feedback for a group swap, but it is much harder. Thank you for mentioning that.
I have been thrilled with the entire experience, chatting with everyone and the pics and of course the wonderful plant I received.
n2birds, excellent idea! I've been happy with this swap (so far :) I wish I could have sent more to my buddy, but since I was buying them, I could only afford so much. Oh well. I liked them, and when my buddy (whoever it may be ;-) receives the box, keep in mind I don't have any of the ones I sent, so when they are big enough to divide... hehehe...
You have made me happier than a little boy on Christmas morning! I opened that box, saw your note and was so excited reading it and all of the names. You must use magic to get all of those in that box so perfectly.
Tokudama Flavocircinalis (on my want list)
Gypsy Rose (on my want list) this is just incredible
Guacamole (on my want list)
Little White Lines (on my want list)
Sea Fire (my very first with red petioles!)
Feather Boa (on my want list)
Hanky Panky (on my want list)
Abiqua Drinking Gourd
Tequila Sunrise (my second with red petioles!)
All of them even came with nice labels!
I am still getting chills because I am so excited. I gave all of them a drink after unpacking them and had to come in to write this and thank you. They are all beautiful. I am just about ready to split at the seams from being so happy! Thank you Cathy! You have me doing that happy hosta dance now.
To the person receiving a package from me... It IS on it's way.. had to redig today.. found your package in the back of DH's truck.. he didn't mail them on monday.. I am sorry for the delay.. I believe you will be happy.. when they do arrive.. well I hope you'll be happy, I would be happy...
Ptilda: Glad you got and liked the NOIDs. They are two of my favorite hostas in my garden - I know you will love them when they grow and multiply, they are just so huge and blue (and pretty slug resistent to boot)... The others were supposed to be shipped on Monday. If you don't have them by end of day tomorrow, pls let me know and i will follow up...
I am in total awe!!! Thank you ZZ for doing this. This is my first swap. All I can say is I got a wonderful more than generous swap partner. 50glee sent me these wonderful plants and I thank you so so much. Big hug to you Beverly. Thanks again BEV
Sum And Substance Stained Glass Earth Angel Whirl Wind
I got my box today - directly from Bently Gardens!!
Someone MUST have ESP because I got what I desired: some hostas with red!
I got Tequila Sunrise and Streaking in Nebraska. Both have red petioles!
Recently, I became interested in the curled leaf hostas with my personal purchase of WhirlWInd
But in my SwapBox I got a third hosta: Roller Coaster (another curled leaf variety). This one was a very large bunch too!
Lastly there is Lakeside Beach Bum.
There was no note - so I have no name to thank directly . . .
so Lelan, thank you for yet another wonderful and successful Hosta Swap and matching me with the perfect buddy!
Ok I coming back up for some air...even though I got my box last week, it was a really really good one. Bonnie sent me Ice Age Trail, Camelot, Hanky Panky, Cherry Berry, Rich Uncle, and Clifford's Forest Fire...I also got a cool garden stake which is already in one of my beds now. Thanks Bonnie for a great box full of all kinds of great hostas. They were fresh and vibrant...
As I read your posts I am amazed at the different varieties that are offered. Most of which I do not have. How wonderful that we are able to add so many different varieties to our gardens. Thank you Lelan, you enabler, you!
Wahoo! My box came today. Thank you, thank you Roni! I came home from a day out that started at a local hosta show (my first one!) and found it waiting for me on my porch. Everything is getting a good soak tonight and I will plant them first thing in the morning.
I can't believe that I actually have a Night Before Christmas now! And I totally love all the other ones, too! Ginko Craig (I know exactly where I will put that one), Lakeside Ninita (it looks totally awesome in your picture - I love that color green), Pineapple Upsidedown Cake (who can't love this hosta?), and even a Japanese Painted Fern that will go to live under my Magnolia tree where ferns seem to thrive.
It came just as I was leaving for a Hosta Club meeting.. of course I took it with me and we all opened together..
There was a really cool looking bagonia.. a 4pk of colease (sp)
QUILTING BEE.. been on my want list for awhile.
String Bikini.. how cute is it???
Emerald Necklace.. will be a very nice strong green addition.. think It will go right next to Madam.. for that contrast that will knock your socks off~!
I got the second part of my buddy's shipment this weekend, but was helping a friend out of town until today, so didn't get a chance to post. They are Spilt Milk (yeah!), Rainforest Sunrise, and Sarah's Delight (if I remember correctly). GORGEOUS plants! And arrived in perfect shape.
Ptilda: Glad you liked them. I am in love with Sara's Sensation. I don't have it - but it has gone to the top my my list (along with about 20 others). But I HAVE to get digging my new beds. I wish I could come home from work one day and have beds magically appear! Then I could do some serious damage...
Good things come to those who wait. Maybe your partner wanted to make sure you received something that you really wanted but your partner didn't have it so your partner ordered it instead especially for you. Sometimes those ordered items don't arrive within the time frame of the swap or they get delayed for one reason or another. :)
I would also like to publicly say how sorry I am not to have been able to send out my swap partners plants. I had let ZZ know I had problems and was assured that it was no problem to wait to send the plants until I returned from seeing my father who is very ill, ( he is in total renal failure ). We also had some finacial problems from buying the plane ticket and then my DH's truck broke down. I was also told that my swap partner would be informed of my situation.
After reading some of the statements posted here, I feel like I have been slapped in the face. I have never not completed a swap untill this past month. I have 3 other swaps I am involved in and each and everyone of those were very understanding of my situation. They were all very nice about waiting the extra time I would need to get things under control here.
I am very very hurt by the statement that I could get but not recieve.
I have NOT gotten any hostas and have requested not to get any hostas as it is not fair to recieve and not send.
I also got an d-mail yesterday telling me worry about sending a box yet apparently my swap buddy was uninformed of this too.
I hope you all have a very nice day.
That's exactly what my mom used to tell me-CONSTANTLY-obviously patience is something I've had to work on! Actually that has been one of the nice side effects of gardening-learning to wait. I really am getting better at it. :)
I'm sure my box is going to be well worth the wait!
I apologize if my posts offended or hurt anyone-that was NOT my intention. My only thought was to express my excitement in participating in my first swap. I (probably more than most) realize that sometimes life happens. Again I never meant to hurt or offend anyone.
OK...Everybody...By the Weekend...
Everyone Will Have Received a Hosta Box/Package.
Everyone Who Participated in the Secret Hosta Swap...
...Followed the Rules..."Thank You"
I Offer Hosting this Swap to Make it for Fun...and Fun Only.
Several Participants(And There Were Many) Notified Me that Their Boxes were going to be Late in Shipping.
I DID NOT Tell Receiving Participants that Their Boxes were Going to be Late...
Because there were so Many...It Would Not Have Effected the Swap.
For the Last Participants Still to Receive... Be Patient...Everybody Receives a Box.
I Know They are on Their Way.
I am so sorry Kris. I hope all is well with your family. Family is all that matters. Belive me I know all to well. I have a son in the Army and worry for him all the time. Have been through many family emergencies myself. I would like to thank ZZ for the geourgeous box of hostas. Thanks you very much Lelan. They arrived in perfect condition. I certainly did not expect this. Ronna.
I recieved a box of Hostas today, even though I had requested that none be sent. That being said, I have to profusely THANK Leland for mailing me some beautiful hostas. I recieved:
Birchwood Parky's Gold
These are wonderful hostas and I did not have any of these in my garden. They have all been carfully unpacked and put into individual containers by my grandson Gryphon. He has made sure they were all labled properly with thier shipping lables and has put them on the porch in a shaded location. He will be planting them in 1 gallon containers tomarrow and will take care of them for me while I am with my Mother and Father. Gryphon also took the picture for me so I hope you can all see how nice and big these plants are.
I again wish to say I am sorry for not sending out my swap and Leland WILL be getting something special in the mail from me when I get home.
Nobody and Nothing Needs to be Sent to Lelan.
(This was My Pleasure to Do for Other's...
That's a Rule from the Hosta Host...Remember Follow the Rules)
If You Could See All the Dishpans and Tubs and Buckets with Divided Hostas...Well Enough Said...I Have My Work Cut Out for Me...Repotting )
I Had a Blast Fixing Up the Boxes.
And Just by the Picture Kris...
Those Hostas are in Heaven There in Alabama!
They Each Have Their Own Cup of Water!
(As the 'Church Lady ' from 'SNL' Would Say..."Well Isn't That Just Special")
They Look Better than When I Sent Them(except for the Snail/Slug Damage).
I am So Happy Everyone is Happy. I Decree..."All is Happy in Hostaland"!
Now Where is Kim...She Should Have Received a Box too from Her Hosta Sender. (Maybe She is too Busy Hosta Dancing...)
As Soon as Kim Posts...Then this Hosta Party Dance Marathon Comes to a Close.
You were so right-I WAS Hosta dancing!!!!! Irisluvr (and my mom) said good things come to those who wait and boy-o-boy were they right! I received a WONDERFUL hosta box this afternooon and have been outside since the mail came! In my box was:
Frances Williams and my most wanted
SAMUAL BLUE (been obsessed with this one since I saw Franknjim's picture).
I did not have a single one of these in my garden-thanks so much Irisluvr!!!!
Sorry for the delay in posting :) Now back out to the garden-few minutes of daylight left!
