I was lucky enough to take my introductory plant taxonomy class from Dr. C. Leo Hitchcock at the University of Washington in the 1960's. I remember that man scrambling up a rocky face in eastern Washington to allow us to view his treasured Lewisia. tweedyi.

I also remember cringing a little then with memories of my parents having attempted to transplant those wild treasures into their yard.

Thanks your for dusting off my cranium!
