I sent the April birthday ladies a gc from Bluestone Perennials. I didn't realize the shipping was so expensive. I was placing an order today when the customer service rep told me the shipping was more than the plant. My apologies ladies. I agree with an earlier post, gift certificates from local box store would be much more beneficial for the birthday lady.

Hey!!! I'm happy with my gc from Bluestone!!! I'm ordering some astilbes. The ones they have at the nursery near me are only white and cost more than Bluestones. Yes the shipping cost are expensive, but I want 3 of their astilbes so will happily pay the shipping costs. After all the plants themselves are a gift.

Thanks Marti, you are sweet. I was looking at the plant Sissy ordered earlier when I noticed they were having a "special" sale. That's how I. Found out what the cost od shipping was. I'm glad you got plants you really wanted. That always makes a gift extra special.

Anita, these are the 5 plants I ordered from Bluestone. You're first in line for any you like when they're large enough to divide. That Echinacea will probably be the slowest if it's like the few others bought last year. I only had one Heuchera (thanks to you, Erin) and one Stokesia bought locally last year. Course I'm an Agastache nut and will start cuttings to root right away if the plant's large enough. Thank you again!

Agastache "Purple Pygmy"
Centaurea montana "Gold Bullion"
Echinacea "Paradoxa"
Heuchers X Brizoides "Smoky Rose"
Stokesia laevis "Mary Gregory"

Susan,

You picked out beautiful plants! I didn't know you were an Agastache Nut. LoL I'm trying Agastache for the first time this year. I think either you or Susie sent those seeds for my attempt at a hummingbird garden.

I have two types of Coral Bells and one that is close in color to the one you have. I think one is the Purple Palace and the other is Georgia Peach. I have a couple types of echies, too, Tomato Soup, Sundown, and Merlot. FOTV, I see that we have the same taste in flowers.

I just bought a few coral bells too. I have a bunch of those Purple Palace kind that were a leftover from a job I did. They never bloom for me. In fact I think I will be digging them up in the Fall and will offer them in a trade.

My Tutti Fruitti Agastache is getting ready to bloom. Can't wait.

Had these guys outside this morning and they were actually mating! Never know what you are going to see up here in the woods.

Wow, my b-day just keeps rolling along!

From Marti I received the most beautiful copper wind chime with a Hummingbird at the top and lots of cool glass marbles. Love Hummers and even have a few at our feeders now, and I'm a nut for anything glass. The card was a crack-up and explained my present was belated since I had so many cards to read last month. So true! and this one will join the many others in my scrapbook.

Marti, I've hung your chime in our Cherry tree. I'm getting quite a collection and all of them came from Dear friends like you. Thank you so much, Sweetie, for remembering me!

Ladies, have a few minutes here. Welcome to the new members, and please, my life has been so crazy, if I left anyone off the list at the top of thread, slap me! Just to get my attention, and I will go back and add. Several have come on board and I've been in and out and hopefully I haven't missed anyone's request. So please check behind me, because lately I have needed a keeper. :)
School's out in three days!!!!!!!
My glasses came, have been back several times to get them right,,,still having some problems but guess I'm just going to have to get used to them. The floaters aren't coming as often, but they still let me know they are around in there. grrrr, aggravating to say the least.
Got to go again. hopefully I can get back and chat more often. Faye I am so glad to see you posting! Now who could be mad at you????? You are our pride and joy and we sure enjoy chatting with you. So don't you think anyone here is upset with you.
Hey, if they are, you just tell me and I'll set them in the time-out chair!
did I tell you school is out in 3 days????? I so need a break, and so do the children. we are all tired, it is so hot, and our buses are NOT air-conditioned. 92 makes for a hot ride.

As much as you all mean to me, I'm considering getting out of the Birthday Club. My thought is, I cannot afford it. I like to send nice gifts, and that plus postage for 20 people is more than I can handle.
Someone mentioned the postage that we have to pay if we get gift certificates. That is another concern, more postage.

Faye, you could get us a 2 mo extension on our DG's subscription.. no postage that way, except if you send a bday card :) Just think, if we all just did a 2 mo subscription gift, that's 40 months..that's almost 3 1/2 yrs added on! Wow..

Or an online gift card for one of the nurseries, garden centers, etc. Even putting a gift card in a bday card wouldn't mean extra postage..

I know you like to send nice gifts, but we are all aware of how tough times are right now..

We would rather have you in the club .. And besides, ANY gift is a nice gift!

Thank you so much for caring. I have done the math and even at $10. per gift, (20 people) is $200.and postage to send it (never under $10.) that is another $200. Gift cards are great, but not if any type of shipping is required.
Question...How many of you would love to have $400. to get the gift you really want?
Love and hugs to all

Sending electronic gift cards through email costs nothing but the price of the gift. I try to keep shipping to a small flat rate box ($5). I also look through my gardens and see if their are any small starts to plants, or if I see something in the store I grab it and set it aside. Maybe I'll use it for a gift later.

Hi Y'all welcome to new folks newer than me that is LOL! I am late getting my May gifts out I have been down with a massive case of Bronchitis. It takes a lot to put me down in the bed and I have been there for a week now. I broke down and went to the docs on Wed and got he gave me antibiotics and the greatest cough syrup I have ever had. I cannot take anything with codeine in it since I am allergic to codeine so he gave me this stuff and man it helps you feel good fast. Helps itching and burning eyes and coughing too! Does not lasts long but hey I am for any length of time it ill help me LOL! He had me get a chest x-ray to rule out pneumonia (it did) but am on the mend I think. I only feel like some giant bug (probably a dang aphid or tomato worm!)stomped all over my body right now instead my whole body LOL!

I have not had Dakota all week since the doc told me I should keep him away from him until I stopped running a fever. This is the longest we have been apart since he was around 3 months old and I started watching him every week day. I am going through withdrawal and had to make myself not call and tell them to make sure they brush their teeth with him each morning LOL!
My poor garden is so neglected. I try and go out there and do a little but it wipes me out then I get chewed on by Bill for overdoing. He obviously does know the importance of dealing with heirloom tomatoes! LOL! I am working on getting Mays gifts out this next week. One of the things I tried to work on while I was really sick and its a lost cause trust me I will be doing something else to replace it LOL!
Have a Glorious Day ALL!

Faye don't you dare leave us. I know there are getting to be a lot of people here now. I will always remember that you were the first person to send me something when I joined. I couldn't believe that someone I didn't know was sending me something so nice. Everyone here has just got to do what they can and nothing more. No one expects the moon.

I've been AWOL a lot with all that is going on taking care of my parent's place while my Dad is in chemo. My yard looks as bad as it ever has and I have nothing left for dealing with it, Then last night we had a mini tornado go through and uproot tree all over the driveway. Finally got it cleaned up enough that we can get in and out. What a mess. The power was out all night too.

I hate when life gets in the way. Lets try to come to some kind of acceptable solution so that everyone is OK with being in the club.

Off to finish dinner.

Lets all send Faye lots of stamps. - am sure a happy birthday letter would make anybodys day. Afterall who really gets a letter in the mail anymore. Keep all the stamps for sending the home made card or letter. Its the thought and noticing someones birthday not the gift that counts.

Hello & Welcome to the newbies!!
I have been so busy in my gardens :) Does anyone follow the Almanac? I am following it this year, just want to see if it makes a difference...
Yeah, the gifts do get expensive but what I do is look for "cute" stuff on sale and stash it in a gift basket I have. I have always done this... even for family & friends.. usually I am ahead of the game but sometimes I do get behind and have to pay full price for things... but then I love shopping for other people so...
I hope you don't leave Faye!!
You can knock me off your list if you need to & just say Happy Birthday to me :)

Faye I can only speak for myself but I love homade things and cards! I am sure from reading the above posts no one wants anyne to go into debt. So many simple things are inexpensive and would be loved! it is not how much one sends but the thought that you took time to think of someone I think is'nt it everyone?
Heck I am making most of my stuff to be honest. May not be too fancy but there is thoughtfullness and love of friendship in each thing I make for anyone here!

Wow, and Awesome doesn't describe my visit today with Susan. And a double pleasure it was because Susan had a friend with her. For those of you who have never met Susan, I want to tell you she is just as sweet in person as she is to everyone here. Sure wish we lived closer together. Susan could go on the top of anyone's best friend list. Her next visit could not come soon enough , hmmmm, yep, tomorrow would be fine.

We were chatty Cathy's all the way back to the campground. Lunch was delicious, you always outdo yourself, and Oh My Gosh I still can't beleive how many plants your shared!

Neener, several were the Coleus you shared last Fall and I'm tickled to have them. Give kitty Pye a pat on the head for me.

I plan to finish out the year. I really enjoy giving anything that will make someone's a little brighter. However, I agree with other comments about things getting a little difficult. I wish I had the creativity to make useful gifts or even having the plants to send. Gift cards are the perfect gift as long as the bday girl doesn't have to pay for shipping or part of the gift is eaten up by shipping costs. It just doesn't seem fair for the bday girl to pay for having her gifts sent to her. They may enjoy going shopping to pick out something they really like. I still have to get the gifts for the most recent bday girls. I haven't forgotten about you!

Hope, I am so happy your DGD is okay. An accident is a scary situation even when everyone walks away. My family was involved in an accident in January. My stomach did flipflops for two weeks after. For some time it was extremely hard for me to be around drivers who were traveling in excess of 25mph. I'll be praying for her speedy recovery.

Today is the perfect day for working in the yard. I'm battling with squirrels and rabbits eating my babies. I finally get the compost put down and the plants in the ground but now I have to fight to keep them alive.

Does anyone have those dreadful helicopters to deal with?

Ladies, I have been trying to come up with the words to tell you what my plans are and I can't figure out how to tell you except just to tell you straight out.
I am going to have to drop out of the birthday club. I have truly enjoyed all the wonderful gifts I received and I do hope that the gifts I sent out were as great as mine.
I just can't continue the expense of giving. My finances have been very limited for a while now, and was hoping that would change, but it has not. So with heavy heart, I am giving up the club.
I will continue to check in though and chat with you all when I can. I have enjoyed it so much and you all have been super to play with.
This thread belongs to you all and has since I took over hosting it. I do hope you all will continue it and keep it going.
Take care, God Bless, and I'll be back to chat.
Sincerely,

I plan on honoring all those who sent me for my birthday. I'm not the type to join just for the gifts and then disappear like so many have since I took over this thread.
I have met many straight-forward ladies here, but I have also met some who are not as honest as we would like them to be.
If you're only going to stay until your birthday,,,then don't expect to many gifts from those who are staying on here.
This is a great group of ladies, and some of them are on very fixed incomes. I'd hate to see them send out nice gifts and not get anything in return. I'm tired of seeing that happening.
And maybe people aren't posting on the thread how they don't want me to leave, but believe me when I say I have received many dmails. And I do appreciate them all, however, I just cannot continue to stay in the club. I will come back and check on you all and I am leaving it in good hands. believe me,,, it IS in good hands. otherwise I would just dissolve it.
This thread has always been for everyone and everyone has always been able to have their say in how things are run. I have never done anything with it without asking for other's thoughts about what I was planning. The new thread hostess will do the same. This club has meant a lot to me and I hate to go, but I have to. I don't have a choice right now.
To all of you who have dmailed me, I appreciate the kind words and thank you very much. I will check back on you later. (((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))

Well I guess you Must not of had your coffee before your post this morning .

as for fixed income yes i have one also the same as the rest of you BUT I STILL SEND MY SWAPS OUT ON TIME. MAY & June Got ME A Bit Behind & Flustered With my Surgery & Then taken care of dad whom is 97yrs old , I just don't have the time to shop for Nice Gift's To Send .

ALL The Members here on DG are Great I Agree we have a few slackers but they soon catch on :)
I Don't Need gift 's I'm Blessed with my gardens I Have food on the table My family & Friends.

UNLIKE Many Who have a Job , A HOME, & Just cannot Be happy without Finding Fault With something or someone your no worse off then the rest of us .

ask me if I care if I get in return . I'm Sure Everyone Here Knows Me & My Rep For Sending My End of the Trades , & Know that I Also Honor my swaps .

& as for you to say if I'm just staying for the gifts is Just way out of line ,you can take This Friendly
B-day advice OR LEAVE IT . No Mater.

Well Now I feel better , I do not need friends like this & with that said I'm Taken a Break Sorry I should never
Post when I'm up-set But for that to have been said about me that was also wrong .

& as I said I do not need anyTHING . I have it Love ,Family,Gardening :)
