Anyone have a sure fired way to get rid of Dollar Weed. I have it in my grass and in my flower beds...just about everywhere. Seems to have come in with Hurricane Katrina.
I have tried various brands of dollar week killer from Lowes, Image was one I tried.
Thanks
First, you need to know what kind of grass you have; there are different products for different kinds of grasses. I have St. Augustine and bought Bayer Advanced Southern Weed Killer for Lawns (I live in suburban New Orleans.) I can't recommend it because I haven't tried it yet; there are a lot of things to take into consideration, the time of year, for one.
I would suggest that you Google 'controlling dollar weed' (I think that's what I used) and do some reading. Two highly recommended (by professionals) but expensive products are Image and Manor. Otherwise, the most highly recommended are atrazine and 2-4-D (which is the most active ingredient in the one I bought.
It is also possible that what you have is Dichondra...it looks quite a bit like dollar weed and is often mistaken for it. Most broad leaf weed killers/herbicides will kill it, but it is a perennial and does reseed. A good weed and feed product should work as well as a pre-emergent for seed control.
