I think okra is rather tropical looking with the big leaves and the big, pretty, primrose yellow flowers and very tall plants. We grow it around the half circle of our patio which is below our deck. When we look down from our deck, there is this beautiful tall okra reaching up to us. We grow Crimson Spineless. It matures in 56 days. It gets quite tall-about 10'. We have a 2' wide and 3' tall "wall" around our patio. I had to stand on the "wall" to harvest the okra. Some of it, my 6'4" hubby had to pick!!
I enjoyed reading the various ways people prepare okra. It makes me real hungry for gumbo and fried okra. We put our okra in the oven to "fry" it so it saves on calories. It works but not as good as pan fried okra. We also put okra in the freezer that we prepared for pan fry last summer. Putting okra in the oven with oil, salt and pepper will be something I try this summer.
I am going to be watching and waiting for my okra to mature!
