Greetings...

I recently contacted Administration with a request for a personalized banner for the 'Fuchsias Discussion Forum'. The team agreed this would be an excellent idea and have agreed to hold
a Banner contest. The fuchsia photo banner contest will be held here in the forum.

Some of you may be wondering, What is a Banner Contest?
Here are links to a past contest for the Summer Banner.
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/573535/
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/575541/

The above links should give you an idea of what a banner contest is.

Please start digging into your photo files and get some pictures of Fuchsias ready for the contest. It's going to be great having someones beautiful fuchsias to greet us when we arrive in the forum!

I'm going to post these two photos to give you an idea of what will be going on when you submit your photos.

The best photos for this will probably not be the really close-up ones as the top and bottom of the photo will be cut off.

The above photo will most likely look like this after it's cropped for the use of a banner.

So keeping that in mind about your photos start looking for those great fuchsia shots.
Also note: The photos must be yours or someone's whose permission you have to post.
By submitting your photo, you are agreeing to allow it to be used as the banner if it is chosen.

GGK you've done a great job getting the ball rolling, so let's just use this thread.
I've stickied it and people can start posting their images here.

What we'd like to do is have everything posted on this thread that you'd like for members to consider. We'll have a vote on this forum to pick the top 8 or 10 (ya'll decide which) Once we have the finalists chosen, the tech team has agreed to work some magic in the Voting Booth area so that everyone can vote. We'll use this new and improved Voting Booth for other forum banners and some other contests. Suggestions are welcome.

As GardenGuyKin mentioned, the banner image needs to lend itself to a long, skinny picture. We'll take care of the cropping, but you can keep in mind that we'll ultimately be using part of your image 130 pixels tall and between 800 and 999 pixels wide. Larger images are quite welcome. He also mentioned that you need to understand that you are giving us permission to use the image as a banner for the forum and even though you'll still own your image, you are giving us the rights to use it as a banner. Your copyright information will not be visible in the banner.

Pick out your favorite shots as we are asking for a maximum of 4 images per member.

Have fun!
Any questions that you have, just ask them here.

Kin, I didn't realize you were a fuchsia afficionado. I saw a deep purple/almost black one a couple of weeks ago at Grey Barn Nursery up here. I wish I'd gotten a picture. I was with Kim (Kymmco), so I'll see if she can't remember what it was called. I would think it was definitely one you'd want to consider for a banner.

Well Kin, I am looking through my pictures and so far all I have are close-ups of single blooms, won't work for a banner. But I feel a need to hit the nursery circuit soon so will see what I can come up with. ^_^
I like your first example entry, I vote for that!

I'm really surprised that there was not a bigger turn out too, Pedricks. I think it caught people by surprise and in many areas Fuchsias are just beginning to bloom...well I guess they are. Who can't love these beauties and they attract so many garden friends.

PedricksCorner, How I wish I knew, I tried to find it's name, but their are so many similar to it. I had this one for many years. What I know of it, it's a great performer, and a tough cookie and very easy to start from cuttings. That picture shows it in the shade, but I have also grown it in the sun.

We're having a conference call today with the tech team and I'll ask them what will be best.

I know that they will crop and add graphics, and I know if it were me, I'd rather have the original image if it is larger than the ones that uploaded (DG automatically resizes)

I think since we have this many, we'll let you all decide on some finalists...say, 6? I'll be back later today with more information.

Ok, here's what's next.

I'll crop these images and show you what they will look like in banner shape. If some of these do not crop out well, I'll let the photographer substitute another shot if they want. I'll start a new thread with the cropped images one right after another. Once I have them in place, everyone gets to choose their 6 favorites. The tech dept will make up banners with the graphics when we have the 6 top ones chosen. We'll vote on the ultimate winner then.

Stay tuned...
