Great News!! Fuchsia Banner in the near future...

Portland, OR(Zone 8a)

Greetings...

I recently contacted Administration with a request for a personalized banner for the 'Fuchsias Discussion Forum'. The team agreed this would be an excellent idea and have agreed to hold
a Banner contest. The fuchsia photo banner contest will be held here in the forum.

Some of you may be wondering, What is a Banner Contest?
Here are links to a past contest for the Summer Banner.

The above links should give you an idea of what a banner contest is.

Portland, OR(Zone 8a)

Please start digging into your photo files and get some pictures of Fuchsias ready for the contest. It's going to be great having someones beautiful fuchsias to greet us when we arrive in the forum!

I'm going to post these two photos to give you an idea of what will be going on when you submit your photos.

The best photos for this will probably not be the really close-up ones as the top and bottom of the photo will be cut off.

The above photo will most likely look like this after it's cropped for the use of a banner.

So keeping that in mind about your photos start looking for those great fuchsia shots.
Also note: The photos must be yours or someone's whose permission you have to post.
By submitting your photo, you are agreeing to allow it to be used as the banner if it is chosen.

GGK you've done a great job getting the ball rolling, so let's just use this thread.
I've stickied it and people can start posting their images here.

What we'd like to do is have everything posted on this thread that you'd like for members to consider. We'll have a vote on this forum to pick the top 8 or 10 (ya'll decide which) Once we have the finalists chosen, the tech team has agreed to work some magic in the Voting Booth area so that everyone can vote. We'll use this new and improved Voting Booth for other forum banners and some other contests. Suggestions are welcome.

As GardenGuyKin mentioned, the banner image needs to lend itself to a long, skinny picture. We'll take care of the cropping, but you can keep in mind that we'll ultimately be using part of your image 130 pixels tall and between 800 and 999 pixels wide. Larger images are quite welcome. He also mentioned that you need to understand that you are giving us permission to use the image as a banner for the forum and even though you'll still own your image, you are giving us the rights to use it as a banner. Your copyright information will not be visible in the banner.

Pick out your favorite shots as we are asking for a maximum of 4 images per member.

Have fun!
Any questions that you have, just ask them here.

Kin, I didn't realize you were a fuchsia afficionado. I saw a deep purple/almost black one a couple of weeks ago at Grey Barn Nursery up here. I wish I'd gotten a picture. I was with Kim (Kymmco), so I'll see if she can't remember what it was called. I would think it was definitely one you'd want to consider for a banner.

Well, I'll give my final two. I like to grow them in the garden whenever possible, so here is one from the garden:

Well Kin, I am looking through my pictures and so far all I have are close-ups of single blooms, won't work for a banner. But I feel a need to hit the nursery circuit soon so will see what I can come up with. ^_^
I like your first example entry, I vote for that!

What do ya'll think about trying to have all of the images in by Friday night?

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

I think I am going to have to get going on that nursery hopping pronto then!

Portland, OR(Zone 8a)

Melody
Friday sounds good with me too. I was hoping for a bigger turn out of photos...
Sue, you better get busy. I know many of my photos are rather close up ones also but I
did find a few that were from a distance.

Here is another one.

I was really hoping for more time. I hope you guys will consider waiting at least another week. I have just had so much work that must be done asap. No wiggle room. No time to edit the photos I've taken or go through what I already have to pick out three more. I am almost done with a huge project.......

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

Many of you have great images in PlantFiles already (I know...check out the articles for today!)

If I don't have a chance to visit here again tomorrow in time to vote, then I vote for GGKin's in post 7881052. Because a banner view of it would include a variety. I am going to do my best to get three more of mine here too ;-D

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

Will Saturday evening be better? I just don't want to drag it out over an extended period.

We'll get your votes on the top finalists and then open the voting up to everyone via the voting booth. How many finalists will be determined by how many images submitted.

Freedom, CA(Zone 9b)

Here are my three other entries. But I certainly hope more people out there rush in like me and post more today. Okay, it's five minutes to midnight Thursday, but I'm talking about Friday.
The first one is 'Minnesota'

Thumbnail by PedricksCorner

The second (which is actually my third entry) is 'Mood Indigo'

And the fourth is 'Hermiena.' It was hard to choose between this photo and one of 'Garden News'
PS Great article Melody!

Melody,
What ever works best for you. I do believe this has been up for over a week now and all who were interested in posting pictures have most likely done so. But...it's up to you and what works best on your time schedule.

Freedom, CA(Zone 9b)

Thanks for waiting Melody. I really hoped we'd see a lot more photos too. My camera is not the best and I am still learning.
GGK, I bet you have a few more that would make great banners.
Maybe tomorrow morning we'll see a sudden flurry of last minute entries!
Since there are so few, I hope no one will mind terribly if I post just one more. Of a simple one next to a double one. Just took it tonight. Vinegar Joe and White Wonder.

Some pretty darn good looking Fuchsias here!
A Big thankyou to all who contributed!!
I'm really surprised that there was not a bigger turn out too, Pedricks. I think it caught people by surprise and in many areas Fuchsias are just beginning to bloom...well I guess they are. Who can't love these beauties and they attract so many garden friends.

Here is my last one

Wow, that is a cool shot with the water in the background! Was that a sprinkler going? My F. magellanica just started to bloom. The F. m molinae never stops though.
