I've seen those same patterns on my columbine leaves, and never knew what caused them. Thanks for the informative article!

My columbines get those "creative" squiggles every year also, more some years than others... I do have a good population of beneficial insects out there, but maybe I don't have the right ones for these! Other than the columbines, I haven't had much issue with miners (knock wood), although back at our first place we had a lace bug problem on our azaleas.

Leaf miners plague my Columbines every year turning them into ugly messes.
This year I used some Bonide systemic insecticide on a few Columbines. It appears to work well. I plan to treat them all next year.
