This is a fabulous pink for the Houston area, but not planted as much as it should be. The secret to growing it here is providing protection from hot western sun in the summer and good drainage. I've grown this plant for about ten years and either it's persisting OR seeding OR both. It has spread nicely and blooms almost year round. I let it seed, but neaten up its clumps periodically by cutting back brown stems. For some reason, local nurseries prefer stocking annual dianthus so one has to look really hard to find First Love, always sold in one-gallon containers and therefore more costly than some might prefer. However, it's worth every penny!
