This massive caterpillar has infested one of my frangipanis and is in the process of decimating it. It eats ferociously day and night and drops massive frass. Anyone out there knows what it will turn into? My guess it's a moth rather than a butterfly. I am going to painstakingly remove them by hand and take them off the property to live happily in the wild. Any help gratefully received.

I think I found it for you! It's a Tetrio Sphinx Moth. Here's a link to an article about it here on DG. http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://pics.davesgarden...

I am glad you got a quick answer to your caterpillar ID. You were lucky as this forum is not watched by many members.

This forum is for questions relating to adding data to the BugFiles database.

We have a forum on Insect and Spider Identification here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/f/bugid/all/
and if you post your question there, you may get some help,

If you have an image, you could attach it to the message you post for a better chance of getting an identification

We have a page for the Tetrio Sphinx Moth in BugFiles here: http://davesgarden.com/guides/bf/go/1456/
and would be pleased if you would add your picture to that page,
