I let a 'peach' tree grow where it had come up against my garden wall, practically in the shade of a Sophora japonica. This year the tree, not very old and about 2 metres tall, fruited for the first time. I have had seven delicious yellow nectarines from my 'peach' tree, with no work whatsoever. I guess I'd buy one if I needed one, but a peach tree from seed is a wonderful gift from Mother nature!

Wonderful! Thanks for the report! It will be hard for me to actually cut down my baby peaches even though all the pros advise me NOT to invest my time in letting it grow.

By the way--I visited Rome and loved it.
