Ice cream on Morton salt box
2 c milk
Thanks. My family could NEVER let ice cream sit for 30 minutes!!
We made ice cream for Labor Day, lots of toppings but we didn't eat it all, so tonight I had a fresh peach topped with two scoops of that yummy custard. Burp!
I will be making some next week . I have about 25# of shelled pecans in the freezer and will be going for bananas , fresh peaches ,coconut and any thing else I can think of . I'll make up a bunch of different combinations for the freezer. Cherry vanilla is always good .
Whooo Hoooo Girl!!! Will you have some left for my visit in October?? I Sure do hope so!!! Save some of those peaches for me too.... mine are all gone!
Hey do you have a crank churn or an elcetric? I sure do want an old fashioned hand crank!
My crank is in Tex . but you won't know the difference . The only one that will tell the difference is Johnnie , and that's because he won't have to crank . I'll see if he can pick us up some necterines on the way to Ellijay . they tasted just like sweet peaches .
I meant to post here a week or three ago. I was visiting Charlottesville and found Morton's Rock Salt in a grocery store. Bought 2 boxes, cheap. Now I just need to find the $$ for a hand-crank ice cream churn. Don't know what happened to my mother's churn; we also made sorbets in it. Made lots of grapefruit sorbet from canned juice for my step-father's Salty Dogs!
Yuk on salty dogs , but frozen margarettas go down real smooth . A vodka salty dog isn't bad .Glad you found the box . Cooking the mix is so much better , I think .
For some reason I don't like sherberts. Sherberts and sorbets are not the same, either. Sherberts have milk products in them, sorbets do not.
I like good ole grainy, fattning Ice cream . Not so smooth that it makes foem when you put root beer in it . BTW cold beer over ice cream is good . Try it sometime , I was amazed at the flavor .
Yeah, I like fairly grainy, full-fat ice cream too. I'll pass on a beer float, LOL.
Oh grief that beer float sounds die hard, Sally! Amber ale or light? I'm cracking up. Well, we have both an electric and a hand crank. Electric for the city and hand crank for the country. lol Anyway, ours was from a yard sale and doesn't have a crank either so we use a ratchet (at least I think that's what we use). We make watermelon sorbets and other fruit based concoctions in the electric and do custard based ice creams in the hand crank one.
Didja check out DD's jalapeno thumbprint scones on her blog, Darius? They'd probably go great with Sally's beer floats. Actually, I'm thinking margarita sorbet would be perfect on the side. We were talking a few weeks ago about a thumbprint scone recipe and I was saying it would be a good use for my fig jam. Then I mentioned I could throw some jalapenos in for good measure and use some of that excess. So she came up with that nice lemon/lime/jalapeno scone idea.
No, I didn't see it, but I would have skipped it anyway... gluten problems. Which I hate because I love scones.
Fig and peppers sounds interesting. I hope to get a bag of jalapeņos at the market Saturday, to smoke for chipoltes.
Don't laugh , Years ago I worked in the soda fountain at the airmans club at Sheppard A F B in Wichita Falls , Tex and the youngsters would come by with a glass of beer wanting me to drop ice cream in it . I couldn't believe they were drinking that stuff , but they talked me into trying it and it wasn't half bad
Digger Sweet Girl.... Ice cream, Sherbet, Sorbet, Floats.. we will just have to have our own ice cream tasting party... but please no Beer! I just cant even imagine it!
MayPop ...jalapenos added to scones... Now THAT I could try.. sounds really good
Darius, poor baby, gluten intolerance! I dont know what I would do with out bread in my life... and if it is yeast raised.. I am in heaven!
No.. she has previous engagement with GS. ... She will be able to take care of Chickies and Mr. P.P.
I'll post the recipe but gotta pick the garden and run back to Atlanta right now to wrap up the orchids. It's about to get cooooold. Sally, I'll wave at you on the way down 115. BTW, Eufaula, loved your "Bless your heart" on one of the other threads. We all know what that means down South. lol
oops! MayPop!!!! Why ..What EVAH do you mean???? lol!!!!!!
Digger - When were you at Sheppard AFB?
Tech-school - spring of '64. - a tornado tore up the Base, too.
Peaches in ice cream sounds great. would go great with this year's Circle S Vineyards peach wine - release party is this Saturday.
Bubba, I was born in W F . my mom and step dad owned Keener the Kleener dry cleaning and tailor on Ohio Street . Thinking back , They were divorced when I was 14yrs old .
The tornado went through when I was working at N C O club . Tore up the old hosp but everyone had moved into the new hosp . Sound familar?I was 25 or 26 at that time .
Oh, yes. Small world isn't it?
Loved the Airmen's Club - spent most evenings there listening to the band(s) and emptying a few pitchers.
Could always crawl down the yellow troop-walk stripe to our barracks. - it was the first one across from the sports field.
Speaking of the sports field - watched the USA Summer Olympic trials from our room.
I knew there was something about you I liked .Ever drink a glass of beer with a dip of ice cream in it ? I dare you yo try it . Probable be better to try the ice cream with a sweet red wine over it , just a little . lol
Well Im here at Digger's!! Tried a little bit of the Vanilla this morning.... soooo good!!! cant wait for the tasting this afternoon when we will add peaches , and her special Banana nut! .... NO Beer!!!! lol!!
Digger thanks for a great visit, love ya and I cant waitto see you here at my house soon! Oh and yes I found my camera!!!!!
OMG, and the vegetables? lol Sally, you are the best dessert maker and you do have a GIANT sweet tooth.
Yes , I do have that sweet tooth ,Laruel , That's why I only make desserts rarely anymore . I am too tempted to eat them .
We had a club meeting Sat. and ate there . We didn't have any meals at home , so no veggies , but she was talking homemade ice cream and peaches , so I did that and had a coupla things extra to go with it later . Sent half the leftover desserts home with her so she could grow up to be as big as me , and she had house guests too that couldn't come with her . Devious me .The pie is gone , the cobbler is in the freezer, as is the ice cream , her half is gone so , out of sight , out of mind for me . He He .
